....back in the day, custom skate order forms were essentially an Excel file with a couple drop down boxes and maybe a tracing of your feet. It was sort of an arcane process at the retail level.

bauer and ccm did custom skates as far back as at least 94.  They they mold the foot.

Just was looking through this thread and noticed many large paddle lengths. For all you 27.5ers out there, I’m pretty sure bishop uses like a 25 or 26. I also see people talking about stances and how short sticks are for people with low stances. This is simply not true. Unless you play like you are in 1980 or before you make stick saves in your butterfly. Therefore stick size should be based off the butterfly so you have no 7 hole and good control of you stick during stick saves. Yes ideally your stick is on the ice in your stance but you don’t make stick saves in your stance is the bottom line. My friend plays triple A and is 5’10 using a 23 and is the best goalie I have ever seen with his stick. I am 5’5 and use a 23 only because 22s don’t really exist especially for full rights.

dont get too caught up in the number ,  at the end of the day blocker hand needs to be in optimal position that is the correct position (somewhere equidistance bt ice and top of vertical angle),  this is based on how style of play.  the vertical angle changes if you are aggressive goalie vs one that sit in the crease or more passive, if the former, u need the hands lower to close up the hole,  if in the crease higher.  MAF is one that has a low hand position,

The hand position dictates the correct stick which is combination paddle and lie, other factors most people don't talk about are:

Blade shape - rocker vs, flat,  toe and heel shape,  curve vs tilt, paddle shoulder shape (trigger grip, double shoulder, slant, square shoulder, and any other weird unknown ones)

    ITS not just one factor.

some companies measure from the shaft paddle joins,  others measure from where the paddle is at 3" as the starting point - 2 varations are from the shaft  or the paddle  top or bottom area.

NHL rule book is probably along the shaft on the paddle to the heel.  starting at where it is 3" not including the shoulder if it is under 3".

I'm going to sleep,   but its having a rocker blade like majority of pros , just look in at pretty much any photos, if stick is longer the rocker will offset the height.

.....how you'd hold with the knob 1" above the paddle?

I'm envisioning the knob being the new shoulder; located between the middle and ring fingers (as well as the stop between the thumb and index) with the index on the paddle.

the hand is on the knob so you  dont have to hold it too tightly and fingers keeps it in place giving free range of motion. in stance the blocker is at an angle similar to the pad in stance. it also takes vibration off the stick redirecting.

  4. the shape of the blade on the bottom, that what they forgot to mention and is key in controlling rebounds and movement of stick.

getting a shorter paddle and adding knob 1" above the paddle  accomplishes the same thing with a rocker blade.

also dependent if u have big hand or not.

  5. why do u guys order custom pads with stock sizing that is just stupid and dumb.

ask the manf what measurment they need and the size of skate and thigh rise pref and tell them to make it so it fits u not the other way around.

u dont goto a custom tailor and say make me a shirt off and give them a size u wear for some other brand.

boot size for people are all different some people have small feet other have big.

stop ordering modified stock sizing unless u own a retail store or fits perfectly in the pads

  6. its funny how everyone can use SAM profile no matter the weight height size skill level makes u wonder who is pushing this and why it is being pushed so hard.  Extra revenue maybe with little expertise., hey skate shop we got a catch all template that goalie will like, we will sell it to you and u push it to the consumer for $50 or so,   No experience needed , just throw the template on and they will like it.  if they ask for any adjustment, just tell them this is it.

Oh I see, you mean the pro internals from the previous year.

Hmm, I suppose if I get some I can always return them. From looking at the pros there's not a flex point below the thigh rise, which killed the G4s, I wonder if it's the case for the snrs.

its not the sr g5 do not have hypecomb like the g4 pros so theory is wrong.

the flex point break doesn't do anything its just for looks its still interanl doouble  break. it didn't kill the g4,  anyone that wears the pads knows that once u break it in at that point its forms to that area.  you can stiffen up the thigh rise by throwing down a plasic ruler down the back side slot and putting a foam on the backside inside break to straighten it back up.  i did it on the g2-g4s.  the pads get too soft over time. not, "its too stiff".

  8. its not much diff as u have stated, just foam between the models, profile lock u don't really need, hype comp on the thighrise if u want more stiffness.  there are not custom options except for single and double break.

Its like the ford car model, u can have it any color you want as long as it is black.

the weight is minimal difference bt model as always.

  9. The roy spec brown is this.

back protector only like 7 " long in the upper back spin going down, rest is nylon webbing and same 2 straps.

the elbow sides have hard nylon plastic plates.

What roy modified is he took the soft foam on the sides off that wraps around, probably to get rid of the heat.

    Kirk,

thank you for the clarification! Would you say that the average beer league goalie who’s on the ice 1/2 times a week would be just fine with the stock stiffness or would it be better in the long run to get extra stiff the ensure the pad doesn’t break down and get softer?

if u need to stiffen it up more just buy a stiff ruler and throw it down the backside slot on the outside. works on the g2-g 5

  11. its middle of the knee,  every company measures the thighrise  from the knee cap up otherwise there would be a gap.   That how they measure for  custom pads and it hasnt changes in 30 years.   otherwise u r going to have a floating starting point for the thighrise sometime, 3 " higher and sometime less.

this is how u r pads back in the day u give them ur skate size or scoop size, ankle to knee or floor to knee ,  and thighrise perference and send it in not stock sizes. but eventually kids now think thats how pads are ordered so the mfg follow suits probably based on getting the big box retailer to front load custom stock inventory.

  12. thats not how u measure thighrise measurement, its from the midde of the knee not top of knee block as they can be difference size..  yoiu can do that if u figuring out the same brand and model and thats about it.  otherwise doesnt tell u crap, and yes i know brian listed that , but it doesnt mean crap.

Damn, ok thank you for the heads up I’ll have to find the sizing chart. You know where I could find it or what is called so I can plug it into the google machine?

ccm is on the website as pdf in the catalog,  warrior has a sizing chart everywhere in every retailer,  brians is on their website,  vaughn is the only one where i don't know but i have seen an old one, at this point i really dont care about vaughn.  pete smith guys since 2003

  14. 1 hour ago, Quadzilla32 said:

So you’re saying that if you take a 33 in warrior and Brian’s that you would need to make it a +3 in warrior to equal a +1 in other manufacturers? I find that hard to believe since I’ve read several people saying the stock thigh rise is huge.

yes go look at the sizing chart.  these are also the same people that say the g3 are super stiff when they touched it for 5 min or tried it once while the other caamp that used it says they are too soft.  shannon szabados uses a 33 +3 warrior.  its just perceived as being big.  always go with ur raw measurement preference not the stock size.

How are the thigh rises on warrior pads? Been reading they measure bigger than what they say, longer than other brands. I’m using a +2 right now but the 1.5 seemed pretty big.

they have a chart go with it.   its actually smaller the 33" base is 8" vs 10" on brians and CCM , I think vaughn is on the same boat but i could care less to do the reserach.   what this means a 33" + 3  warrior ritual is the same as brians 33+1"in the thighrise.

What is your guys fit guarantee? Tried a quick google search and didn’t find anything.

Im still trying to narrow down my sizing, not being able to go and try on some is driving me crazy.

it if u order custom and it doesnt fit and u havent wore it on the ice they will make another one in ur size thats all
