  1. Yeah I don't give my D a hard time about it because they usually apologize right afterwards. But I got annoyed at one dman for too much effort as he crashed into me on a sliding backcheck. Great effort, but it's just shinny dude. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FScHxmgray4&t=5m29s And then my highlight blooper moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FScHxmgray4&t=6m34s
  2. How old are you? Your day will come.
  3. it happens at all levels, even the nhl, and i'm sure they get coached and watch video replays. it's unlikely anything you say will make a difference.
  4. Well I'm not a referee so yeah, that wouldn't happen. I did it for fun. Came in handy a couple of times a faceoff when I got whacked by the players swatting at the puck. But the term goalie ref was fitting.
  5. So it's our year end tournament, the Mashup, and I experimented with sharpening my skates with a high inside edge. The result, better pushes and I felt more stable in my stance. Keep in mind, that's all relative - I'm just an okay skater. I did more skating by reffing the following game in my goalie gear. I felt smoother and more stable too. I'll say that it was a successful experiment, and I'll give the edges a touch up before tomorrow's game.
  6. I reffed a game today. It's our year end Mashup tournament and the team that just finished playing has to ref the next game. No one wanted to do it so I volunteered. The twist, I skated in my goalie skates, pants and pads. I figured I'd get some extra skating practice in. To pick up the puck I would drop down on one pad and slide to it. Okay, probably not helpful so let's see what some others have to say.
  7. I'll let you know how my Vaughn 7700 full right gloves are when I get them. I'm currently using the same regular handed gloves.
  8. Did my skates for the first time after practicing on some old skates. I had my first skate on them on Saturday and they were fine. I was worried that I would f*ck them up. The edges weren't perfect, i.e. level, but close enough that it wasn't adversely affecting my movements. Hopefully will get better and I will experiment with the inside edges.
  9. Cool. I just bought a set of full right gloves from Sideline Swap to try the same thing. They're Vaughn Velocity 7700 which is what my regular gloves are! They're not red, though. That would have been too perfect. Next I bought a Warrior STR2 RH stick from The Hockey Shop, again to match my regular stick. Unfortunately my season ends in a couple of weeks but hopefully I'll get a couple of games in before that.
  10. i'll concentrate doing a basic sharpening first then trying other customizations later. thanks.
  11. hey thanks for the reply. I just bought a used fleming gray b2 machine so still learning, but i can only raise/lower the blade relative to the grinding wheel. is convenience the main reason for doing it this way? does it perform the same as if you did it the 'traditional' way?
  12. how do you raise the inside edge? do you offset the blade up or down from the centre point?
  13. You must be vaccinated to play at our arena. Masks are required but it is not strictly followed but I do wear a mask in the arena, including in the dressing room. We spread out in a few rooms and there's usually no more than 4 people in our room. I wear my tights under my sweats and don't shower at the arena anymore. I am in and out, no socializing pre or post game. I don't drink anymore so I'm not missing anything. Women change in their own room, though when I walked into my usual room yesterday, there was a woman changing in there. I had to wait for her to finish because my gear is stored in the dressing room. I'm a fast changer as I tend to show up 15 minutes before ice time.
  14. I've got the Brian's Smart Straps on my pads. I ordered the new version with the sandwich style fastener to replace the original ones. Also had them made 3" longer to weave through my skates. they're the only flex ties I've used but I like them. Brian's Smart Straps Edit - The Hockey Shop also sells the Vaughn Bungee Toe Ties and Pro Lace.
  15. Wednesday at 6:30pm and Saturday at 3:15pm for me. I live in a small town and it's adult rec hockey, not a league, but it's fun. And I get to store my gear at the arena too.
  16. You could try putting some clear nail polish on the edges to keep it from lifting.
  17. Sounds like you shouldn’t have any problems saying buh-bye to them as you leave for your div 3 team. ?
  18. Couldn't you ask your sister to buy it for you (and repay her, of course)? Some places will only ship to the cardholder's address for security reasons.
  19. The rubatex is beige, but I was wondering what the black foam is.
  20. My Mage RS has rubatex foam but my older Ricochet has the black foam. Not sure what that is called. Is that the "better" foam?
  21. I have a Mage RS too. Did you drill new holes to mount this cage because yours are in different locations than on mine with the extended RS cat eye cage.
  22. TheGoalieCrease method: https://youtu.be/Zie4fz_IrW0 I haven't tried this but I did use his breaking in goalie pads method on my new Brian's and it worked really well.
