Hockey School Dropout
The resurrection has begun. I have not played much over the past 2 months or so, and only pick up games. So when I was asked by some guys to join their team for the summer, I jumped at the chance. I've spared with them a few times, and play some pick up with other members so I at least know a few of the guys. Our first game was May 1, followed by another May 3. Another one tom`orrow night. From May 1: Some rust in this one. Particularly the 1st and 4th goals. The first I got over but not in the right spot. Second was a deflection off my D. 3rd I bit on the fake. 4th I don't even know what I was doing as I ended up facing down ice when the shot came from the left face off area. Oh well, live and learn. Game 2: Stronger opponent, and there were about 4 goals I probably could have stopped if I had seen them. Either too many people in front of me, a D cutting across my vision or not enough battle from me. Likely a combination of all three. This game was better in my opinion, hopefully the trend continues. Now just to get my D to get out of the way......
Hills
So glad you are over here! I'll have to watch these on lunch tomorrow.
Ghostender
I echo Hills' sentiment - great to see you posting videos again (although I too haven't had a chance to watch them). Hope all is going well of late - still with Oz?
Hockey School Dropout
Yes I am, just passed 6 months last week.
Fullright
Great stuff, Gary. Like the 2 men above, very glad to see you having at it!
Ghostender
Just did a quick watch of the videos. Perhaps a bit of rust, but you'll lose that pretty quick I'm sure. Some great saves especially while they were trying top exploit the back-door. IMO you are playing what I call "full-spectrum" hockey: playing with and against players that cover the full spectrum from benders to high level that can (and at one point did) go around most of the opposing team. Unfortunately, calling a couple of your D pylons would be an insult to pylons...
Hockey School Dropout
You are correct on that Ghostender. It's a fun bunch of guys, and I expect a lot of losses. From their winter team to the summer team they lost their 3 top scorers, and added 3 benders. It'll be a tough slog, but I'm just glad to be back on a team. Hockey School Dropout
The latest game was a **** show. One goal I was caught in indecision and should have been an easy stop. One goal didn't go in (super slo-mo looks like it went cross bar to post and out) but counted and another went in but wasn't counted.....karma I guess. Going to be a long summer, but I should come out of it better.
Fullright
It'll come around again, HSD. You're also being a little too hard on yourself. Not much you can do when you cant see the puck or the D just lets the shooter walk in down the middle of the slot.
Hockey School Dropout
Maybe so, but I have to raise my game or there are going to be a lot of blow outs......hard to keep interest when that happens.
Hills
Is your team being outplayed? We can't see the other side of the ice obviously but your team seems to do an awful job of stopping grade A scoring chances.
Ghostender
Agree with FR and Hills - can't blame yourself for that loss. Sorry, but plain and simple, your D doesn't have a clue. Replay the video and look at how many plays the other team has at least one, and a lot of times two players behind your D. Examples: 3:09 – 12 is interfering – should be leveled Sequence starting at 3:20 – way too long for two guys to be in there without paying the price I bet the other team didn't hang their goalie out to dry like the weekend laundry
Hockey School Dropout
Hills, yes, definitely being outplayed. Other teams are able to set up a good long cycle. And odd man rushes are commonplace. Ghost, that we score at all is a small miracle. After the game Sunday night, I very much felt left drifting in the wind. Hockey School Dropout
Here is the video from the game Sunday night. The saddest part is we got good zone time, just not many quality chances. The other team however.....
Hockey School Dropout
So after a break for the May long weekend, we hit the ice again last night. I had no warm up (issues with the net which carried throughout the game), and we were playing a team that got moved down from the division above. Perfect conditions......for a goalnado as Fullright would call it.
Ghostender
Just catching up on these... Your May 14 game: At 2:48, your D on the right (number forty something) knows who to cover, but then he skates by his check and somehow decides turning tight and getting back into the play to cover his man is just too tiring. Instead, he coast lazily back and at the last second even turns away as his check puts the puck in while you are down. There’s a name for people like that (actually there’s quite a few names…)
Hockey School Dropout
Which is funny since he used to be a goalie......but, he was technically a forward. Not that it means he can neglect someone on the ice in scoring position.....
Hockey School Dropout
Video from game Sunday. Decent game, but if I had more hip mobility I would have stopped the ones that got by.
Hockey School Dropout
And since the geniuses who schedule the league put us on back to back nights, here's another video. But, a good result.....first WIN!
Fullright
wow @ 1:02! nice read @ 2:40. good game. I didn't think your team was overmatched but the video does show you being pretty busy for 4:25. very glad to see you back on.
Hockey School Dropout
I'm filling in on another team for an injured goalie as well. Not recording those games, but it's fast hockey, with some guys who can really shoot. Had a tie the first game, lost 3-2 last night. Good group and it will help me out in my other goalie adventures. Hockey School Dropout
So, first the excuses. 44 hour work week, hours spent working on new shed, sore back, 5th game in 7 nights. I was a little behind the play and nonchalant. Won 5-2 with my other team Wed night though, so that was a bonus.
Fullright
Looked like your old self, HSD. Your agility was much more apparent. Sometimes real life gets in the way of a mens league game. I thought you played pretty well under the circumstances.
Hills
So, I am ridiculously behind on user videos... you looked really solid in the last one. 5 games in 7 nights is intense and you played well. Keep it up!
