A few unicorn candidates came to my mind today while fixing the Reactor 9000 blocker. That model is considered very good blocker and actually quite rare too. Now you can get it through Bauer custom. I'll be comparing R9000 and Vapor 1X soon.
The other one from gloves is of course Koho/RBK/CCM/Lefevre/True 580 catcher. That was very rare piece even when you could get it through custom, and only now it is really coming into the market. I'm waiting if it will replace the 600 or 590 in the stores.
The 600 is about dead. Eflex is now a 580 continuation and axis is staying as a 590. True may still have 600s at retail but interesting is slipping

Those Koho's were epic. I'd appluad them.
Lol
Here’s to a “unicorn” in 2018. Probably just your average gear to most of you guys on here

And then who enters the dressing room but Mats Sundin and says "cool gear kid" to your son while giving everyone else the death stare
I hope thats a real story. I got made fun of for wearing koho’s when I was younger and they were from like 2016, when goalie monkey brought them back with Hiller. Got made fun of for having “90s” gear until I showed everyone my instagram dm from Jonas himself telling me my gear was awesome! One of my best moments all time.

I have a pair of new in bag with tags attached pair of Rbk (Jofa) 7k shin guards that I got from the Flyers years ago. I presumed my kids would want to use them. They're from the long since closed Jofa factory in Sweden, so they're amazing. All the pros use these - they have the removable liners and all.
I actually listed them on Sideline for $500 as they are 'unicorns" now since they are new in the bag. I have like 20 watching them but nobody has offered anything reasonable yet.
Nobody younger will appreciate these, especially at $500. Kids my age will just buy whatever is new regardless of preference. Might find some people in their late 30s or early 40s who are interested

The store I work for has a pro sharp. We sell the steel stock no matter what kind and its up to people to profile if they choose. I would just buy the Ls5 of bauer’s site they usually have it and then go to your local store for the profile. From my experience though, the LS5 black steel isn’t worth it. It doesn’t last any longer than my stainless or hold an edge better. As far as the profiles, I’ve tried them all never noticed a difference with any of them. Just my 2 cents

Don't mess with Dave Dryden.
Not that I was planning on it but he’s dead unfortunately so not too much of a concern there

WHA is easy:
Oilers: Dave Dryden
Chicago Cougars: Dave Dryden (again)
Cincinatti Stingers: Mike Liut
Calgary Barons/ Cleveland Crusaders/ Minnesota Fighting Saints (part 2): Gerry Cheevers
Denver Spurs/ Ottawa Civics: Jacques Caron
Dayton Arrows/ Houston Aeros:
Indy Racers: Andy Brown - Last goalie without a mask!
LA Aces/LA Sharks/ Michigan Stags/ Balt. Blades: Jason Vorhees
Whalers: Not sure of this dude. But the mask...
Raiders/ Golden Blades/ Jersey Knights/ SD Mariners: Whoever the Jersey Knights goalie was. They played in Cherry Hill at a rink crappier than any rink out there today. No locker rooms, no showers, uphill ice.... legends.
Miami/ Philly Blazers/ Vancouver/ Calgary Cowboys: Bernie Parent
Phx Roadrunners: TBD
SF Sharks/ Quebec Nordiques: TBD
Winnipeg Jets (WHA): TBD
The Chicago Cougars are my team’s crosstown rivals lol. Almost the same jersey design now as well

Jonathan Quick and Fleury are pretty out there. They end up making a lot more crazy saves compared to others mostly due to their playstyle

How tall is Bob? 6'1, 6'2? Playing with a stick of like 24" less has to feel so different. I'm not Bob of course but at 6'2, 25" is my max lowest I can go without crippling my 5 hole on corner deflections.
That might explain the low low wide stances so many use.
I’m 6’2 using 26s shaved like this (this is Askarov’s mine looks a lot more like a garage project)
I’ve never measured how much I cut off or anything but its somewhere in the 24.5/25 range I’m guessing. In other words its super short for my height by “older” people’s standards

Alright now everyone's doing it. Since @coopaloop1234 still thought I was 13 until I posted action pictures a few months ago, I'll make this list from a 2000s kid's prospective. Keep in mind I actually follow hockey and its history so some of my answers will still be older goalies.
Ducks- Jonas Hiller (Gibson if you're a baby born after 2004) And yes really the Hiller/Quick playoff battles were great back in my day
Coyotes- Mike Smith (anger management)
Bruins- Rask (more anger management)
Sabres- Dominik Hasek (they've never had a consistent guy in my lifetime)
Flames- Mikka Kiprusoff
Hurricanes- Cam Ward
Blackhawks- Corey Crawford (carried by good teams, from a kid in Chicago)
Avalanche- Semyon Varlamov
Blue Jackets- Sergei Boobtitski
Stars- Kari Lehtinen
Red Wings- Jimmy Howard
Oilers- Fuhr (who else am I supposed to say? Viktor Fasth or Jeff Deslaurier? ASS)
Panthers- Rubber-Toe Luongo
Kings- Jonathan Extremely Fast
Wild- Niklas Backstrom
Canadiens- Carey Price
Predators- Pekka Rinne
Devils- Martin Brodeur (special shoutout to Corey Schneider when he first got to NJ)
Islanders- Billy Smith (they had 2,000 goalies before Sorokin took over)
Rangers- Henrik Lundqvist
Senators- Craig Anderson (CYA alumn)
Flyers- Ron Hextall (although Hart's going to become to most well known once he goes to prison for sexual assault lol)
Penguins- Marc-Andre Fleury
Sharks- Niemi or Jones or some other guy that was good for 2 seasons
Kraken- Philip Grubauer (6 million for more injuries than seasons played with the team)
Blues- Brian Elliot (was so underrated in the late 2000s and early 2010s)
Lightning- Ben Bishop (for my era but Khabibulin is iconic. Vasy is getting there too)
Leafs- Curtis Joseph (Holy fuck maybe if they won a playoff series once in a while we'ed remember one of their goalies. A sad Freddy Andersen or James Reimer comes to mind)
Canucks- Roberto Luongo (real stud Lu in VAN. Rubber-Toe edition was in Florida when he was stiff and lived on the ir)
Golden Knights- Oscar Dansk (hehe just kidding it's Malcom Subban. gotcha again!) Marc-Andre Fleury
Capitals- Braden Holtby (won them a cup when nobody else could so...)
Jets- Onjrei Pavelec (Hellybellybucykuk needs to play longer and have more success. when I think thrashers to jets relocation I think of Pavelec)

I'm bored, so here goes...
Which is the most iconic goalie per team in their history, and I don't necessarily mean stats or numbers, just that one guy that resonates his team.
*Don't get all bent out of shape if you disagree or I happen to not mention one or just ran a blank. It's supposed to be fun! It's just hockey...and life...and all that the universe has to offer
My pics:
Montreal - Patrick Roy...Dryden close 2nd
Toronto - Mike Palmateer...Cujo close 2nd
Detroit - Chris Osgood
Boston - Reggie Lemelin
Chicago - Phil Esposito...Belfour close 2nd
Edmonton - Grant Fuhr
Pittsburgh - Marc-Andre Fleury
N.Y. Islanders - Billy Smith
N.Y. Rangers - Lundquist...Richter close 2nd
New Jersey - Martin Brodeur
Tampa Bay - Khabibulin...Vassy close 2nd
Colorado - Jean-Francois Giguere
Los Angeles - Jonathan Quick
Philadelphia - Pelle Lindberg...Ron Hextall close 2nd
Dallas - Marty Turco
Anaheim - Ryan Miller
Calgary - Mike Vernon...Kipprusof close 2nd
Carolina - Arthur Irbe
St-Louis - Mike Liut
Las Vegas -
Washington - Holtby
Arizona - Sean Burke
Buffalo - Hasheck
Columbus -
Florida - Robert Luongo
Ottawa - Patrick Lalime
Nashville - Rhinne
Minnesota - Gilles Meloche (make the connection)
Seattle -
Winnipeg - Hellabuyck
Vancouver - Kirk McLean
San Jose - Nabakov...Miller for Anaheim is wild. It should Obviously be Jonas Hiller. That Giguere guy was trash Hiller was so much better. He is also top 5 all time in playoff save percentage which really means he is the greatest goalie in NHL history. He also played for the Flames so that means he is also their most iconic goalie ever. Goat!!!!
Jokes aside I would pick Giguere, Hiller, or Gibson before Miller for the ducks. Vegas is still probably Fleury but in a few years I think it could be Thompson. I just don’t see Hill being there long term for some reason. Columbus has got to be Bob. Also Parent has got to be in there for Philly!

I have an extra vapor 90 I bought for practice this year. I maybe used like half the time? Once I get back from my games this weekend I can post pics. Its a nylon lace double tee, game ready palm and reinforced tee.

I know he's been in them for a while but those look like the v1 Konekts and not the v2 with black holder.
Interesting, so he's in v2 Konekts but kept the v1 holder? They're still the same Vertexx Edge holders, just black vs. white, right?
Yes

At least you were still using a Single-T. My Mach was Double-T with Skatelace and that lack of snap sensation always drove me nuts.
Single and Nylon is the way.
I have a double tee with nylon on my practice glove. I don’t mind that, but the single is still better imo

What don't you like about a skate lace pocket? Just curious.
Too soft when pucks enter it. It cushions the puck too much to where you can’t always feel it in there. With the lace I can really feel pucks snap into the pocket more.

Anyone have a source for the nylon pocket lacing? I hate the skate lace pocket and was looking to just relace it myself and save myself $50

What sticks have given you the best luck durability wise??

Not sure what paddle size you use but if you can start getting into pro returns they have far outlasted my retail sticks. Also custom sticks from Bauer have always done well for me.
