  1. The timing of this thread couldn't have been better because I just recently got an email from Binance saying

Idk wtf any of this means.  I don't really do much with anything.  I bought some $200 in Litecoin a few years ago, maybe 5 now, when it started heating up.  Haven't touched it since.  I sometimes monitor how its doing but it was pretty much one of those set it and forget it things for me.  I'm sure I am down to pennies on the dollar from where I bought it so at this point it is what it is.

Aside from that, financial talk scares the shit out of me because I don't understand any of it.  I have a Roth 401k that I've been contributing to since I've had my job the last 10 years.  I have no idea what I invest it in, I just picked one of those preset accounts that the company offers.  Another set it and forget it.  I had over $100k in it in January.  I've lost around $20k since.  Everyone just says to let it go, it'll rebound.

@SaveByRichter35 - can't fault you for losing a bit of oomph going from something competitive and routine to something less so on both fronts. I skated in the "novice" league for a number years because it was a great group of dudes but it got to a point where it just felt like I was watching a rod hockey game play out in front me. Couldn't hack it any longer.

@Lucky Pucker - I get you on the parental health issues. Both of my folks are in less than stellar health (and my grandfolks are in their nineties) with my dad a diabetic in the later stages of kidney failure. Its been a long road and I'm scheduled to get assessed as a potential donor next month so hopefully that helps everyone. Good luck to you and your pops.

Anyhow - to chip into the thread - (life instances such as above interjecting) I'm down to technically (2) nights a week this year (at one point I was Monday - Thursday (and some Saturdays) but have been methodically cutting back since there are so many other calls for my time and my body doesn't bounce back like it used to). Last year I was full time Monday (organized drop in) and Tuesday (men's/beer league) but this year I was going to go with an alternating Monday/Tuesday schedule so I could loop in a younger coworker to the team (and he could show me up every other week 😆). For the time being - that's morphed into every Monday/every other Tuesday while another guy mends. If I get to cough up an organ - doctors said I'd be out for like 2-3 months so I'm relishing the opportunity to play... for now... until the snow starts flying at its a 10PM puck drop.

It was much easier to juggle my work schedule with the Knights since we played only on Sunday nights.  During the week I have to work nights due to my kids school schedules and my wife being a teacher.  I have to be home in the morning with them.  So with my days off rotating every week its just too much of a hassle to bother coworkers for shift/day off swaps all throughout the week instead of just one night.  Such is life.  I'll make what I can.  Try.  I will try to make what I can lol.  And if I don't make the games that I can make, well, I don't know...oh well.  lol

I remember you having a familiar feeling a year or so ago.

While I wouldn't be surprised that you put hockey in pause eventually (you'll be back), I also remember you hitting the rink again and finding the love of the game again.

Do whatever you feel is best man. We got your back either way.

A year ago, 6 months ago, it seems like this is how I always feel now lol.  I'm out for months at a time, I am back for a few weeks, I am out for a month now again already.

I hope that you end up happy with whatever choice(s) you make, bruh. I know the pull of family; it’s real. But then mine are always fucking off for their activities, so I might as well too! Lol!

Thanks bud.  Not going to lie I really regret my decision to stop playing with the Knights team.  The hockey was so much better, more competitive.  While I do enjoy the company of the Warriors team more then I did the Knights, its just not the same.  Add in the fact that all of their games are later and spread all over the week and always played in rinks farther from home, I just don't care to do what I need to do to make the games.  I'm fine missing them.  Idk, we'll see how everything goes moving forward.

Oh, it's the same pic I chose above in this thread as The Hockey Guy did for his thumbnail for the video.

It's just the coolest looking pic of Jarry when searching and it's up at the top of results.

Ahhh ok gotcha.  I thought you were gonna say you were sitting in the seats in the background or something lol

  6. I just hope to keep playing this season.  I've been in another rut where I just don't care to play.  Would rather be home with the wife and kids.  My team is going to play in Lake Placid in December.  I have always wanted to do that.  I can't make it and it doesn't even bother me.

Well in the past year I've gotten married, changed jobs, bought a new place, became a landlord, and had my first kid, and won a championship.

I'm honestly not too sure what else I can do for the next 12 months to beat that?

  8. I've had a team mate snap a blade once.  I don't remember how.  Luckily for him the pro shop was still open so he just bought a new set on the spot and had them sharpened.  For all of you saying you have a spare set but don't keep them in your bag, you may as well.  If you already have them ready to go then why not have them on hand just in case?  I don't have a spare set of steel.  If I did, and they were sharpened and profiled and ready to go, they would be in my bag.

I have 2E wide feet and high arches and could not latch the lower buckle even when it was fully extended. Huge bummer. So I went to a local ski shop and had them drill out the rivet and replace the lower metal rail with a longer one that was screwed in (so it’s now easily replaceable). My local hockey shop had no idea, skills, tools, or experience in how to do this. For the ski shop it was trivial. Done to perfection in minutes.  Now I can finally latch the lower buckle across the arch of my foot and have been able to play several times in the skates. I can’t imagine going back to lace up skates now.

I’ve always had trouble with the Bauer toe caps being narrow and was having fit issues with my Bauer Elite Fit 3 skates. Those issues are totally gone with the Konnekt. No more pain in the toe box area. My feet can finally lay flat even when I’m crouched in my goal stance. with Konnekt, I just have a snug fit all around my foot with no hot spots. Never had that before. Truly a game changer for me. Flex is awesome. Neither too loose or too stiff.  Feels perfectly natural on the ice. I ended up wearing the top buckle one or two slots looser than I thought I would when I fitted them in the store. They don’t need to be crazy tight for the hinge to work. I’m also in and out of these skates in seconds. Didn’t realize how much time and trouble it was to lace skates up correctly until now. Can never go back.

Something important no one is talking about is that the skates run small by one size. I bought the recommended size for my feet (size 8). My right foot is 8.5 and my left is 7 according to Bauer scanner. Bauer says (it’s even printed on the box) that they’ll mold to fit my half size longer right foot and adjust to my wide feet. 100% on molding to the width but not the length. My toes are slammed against the front. I took out the footbed from the liner and compared them to my Bauer elite 8.5 and they were a full size smaller.  No wonder my toes are jammed. I’m used to have a gap so my ties don’t touch the front. That is just my preference. I had to trim down my previous footbeds to get them to fit.

After playing in them a few times I’ve decided I’m going to replace them with a size 9 so I can get the larger shell, liners, and footbeds. Hopefully the factory lower buckle will latch with no modification, it if not, I’d have no concerns taking these to my ski shop and having them replace that lower rail again. But  I do think the new size will be a perfect fit after heat molding.  Of course YMMV.

    Welcome, Rogie!

The skate is lightweight, the flexibility is awesome, the rapid put on and take off is good, you actually do shuffle and push better, but none of that matters if you play with constant pain all game on your soles, I gave them a good shot, used them for 6 games, baked them perfectly, but no matter what I did the pain during the game that gradually got worse was unbearable, by the end of the game, coming from True TF9's that are as comfortable as clouds this was terrible, I really wanted to like them, I really wanted them to work out, but the pain was just too much, Bauer has a lot of work to do to fix that, I have no idea why the soles feel the way they feel on this skate, it was just too much pain, I changed the insole inserts 3 different times and no change, so unfortunately I had to return them, maybe they can review that experience and adjust then I can try again in the future with a different model.

    Welcome, Paul!
