  1. I won this game in a 6-5 goal fest. I wasn't happy with shots I let in, but coach put it onto the D unit and the forwards put so much pressure on the other team's D that every time they scored, we answered back. Coach called me back after the fifth goal and told me that I had this and I played 19 minutes of perfect hockey. I got the hardhat last night.
  2. Pics of my dad's hockey team showed his team wearing those. They look funny.
  3. I'm the wrong guy to ask because I will be re-wrapping several times to hone my technique. The family business does 75% advertising wraps for signs, cars, etc. and 25% for personal use. Most of the cars we do are for the tuner scene and those dudes change wraps like underwear LOL We have never cleared a wrap that I know of. Someone may be doing it.
  4. My Dad always said Step Steel. Isn't that steel now another name?
  5. Marc Andre Fleury still play with a foam core or did he join the revolution? My Hyperlite 2 stick pretty much got me out of foam cores.
  6. Am I correct that he still plays with an all-wood stick?

    Goalie hacks

I am but a mere beginner, but I have hacks to try. I am hoping for others to help me. My dad (RIP) helped with a few: 1) tights to go over your knee guards and goal jock 2) Denture cleaner for your water bottle 3) golf glove on your catch hand 4) save all skate laces, as they can be useful 5) rechargeable lighter for laces, loose threads, etc.
  8. My local Pure Goalie saved two of the Warrior units for me to try Tuesday night. Bonus is that they are on sale! I just glued more yoga mat to my LT80 for my start tomorrow night. Warrior seems is where I'm going for gear. Knee guards, helmet and possibly chest protectors.
  9. I will have to check them out. I am finding that my soft LT80 Vaughn chesty is not going to last out the season and I could get hurt. The bruises may to sexy to the ladies, but I kinda hurt the next day after practice.
  10. So I should get a Warrior? I thought about Brown, but those are expensive and I may grow a bit. I'm 6'2".
  11. Totally on purpose. My league has been cracking down on non-certified helmets, so I went out of my way to make this look like it was a wrap job on a certified helmet. Hopefully, my Uncle who took over my dad's shop, can help me print a cooler design and help me wrap this better.
  12. Not the greatest wrap job, as my Dad was the best, but I am learning the family trade. I wrapped this (with okay quality material) and even added some stars under the brushed gold aluminum. I have a ways to go to before I start charging money, but here goes, an asymmetrical design in my high school colors.
  13. @ThatCarGuy @sescaro I have used the Warrior mask in practice and I love it. My no name mask was good, but this fit just right and I already took a bomb off my head LOL Beaner clocked me good, but I shook it off and took more shots. Wrapping this puppy in school colors and riding the pine tomorrow. The starter got his job back but I play Monday.
  14. Thinking about this for myself. I do get on the ice four times a week, but at this early stage of the game, I need all the help I can get. My uncle and I are setting up ice tiles in my back yard inside a tent and rigging up a Skilz ball shooter on a wobbly base so I can train my eyes. I know there is no substitute for on ice action, but I really need to work on all aspects of the game.
  15. I feel that I was lucky that I fit into the S/M model of Warrior, as my player helmets are large and it was luck that the no-name mask I had fit fine. I found it's best to try on when possible unless it's molded to your head.
  16. Coach told me last night that the normal starter is starting tonight. I was told that he needs his confidence built back after being pulled, then skipped the next game, and that it nothing to do with my play. While I understand what the coach is saying, I was always under the impression that you go with the hot tender. I still get my start in Sundays game. I am a bit disappointed, but the coach and starter go back to Mites, so I get it. I'm just bummed.
  17. I just ended my first start. It was a trip. The first shot I faced went in amidst a weird series of bounces. It was humiliating because the shot was from my blue line. Shake it off plays in my head. Then the other team thought they could toy with me. My mentor taught me the art of the poke check. I stopped three chances using the same poke check. We were down by one at the end of the first period. The second period was a scrumfest at center ice, and nobody scored. My confidence was boosted during that period, as I face a bunch of shots in the third. Then the star center finds a loose puck at center ice and scores. At the last two minutes of period three, coach pulls me for the extra attacker. I never skated so fast. We scored with a minute to play. The star center won the last faceoff, and our Dman scores from the top of the faceoff circle with seconds left. The other team pulls their goalie, and our star center just misses the goal, but the buzzer blew and we won! I was so low after that first goal, but my mentor's words told me to stay focused on the next shots. The other team tried so hard, and I told every guy how great they played in the handshake line. The D-guy got the game puck, and it was his and his alone. In all, it was an exhilarating game. I better not win too many games or Dairy Queen will make me fat.
  18. I will. I just hope that I can shake off that first goal. I feel bad for my buddy the normal starter but he's super cool about it. He just wants us to win like I do. He's wearing my hat on the bench tomorrow for good luck.
  19. Taylor Swift and Snoopy are my spirit animals LOL
