  1. The method that I used to reskin the blocker didn’t eliminate ANY of the pop for the hard rebounds. This block pops shots just as hard, if not harder than before. The foam backing was removed from the Jenpro.

I struggle with the hydraulic brakes. I've gone through every pad out there. Changed rotors, even resurfaced the pads and rotors. I hate them. Bleeding them isn't hard but the fluid is corrosive and I still manage to get it everywhere.

I can work on car brakes all day long. No issues. But bicycle ones are torture.

I have a single speed with V brakes still. Some of my kids' bike have them too. I think one has a side pull still on it. That's a classic. Lee Chi brakes.

I don’t know what was going on with the mechanical Avid I had installed. I didn’t want to tear it down and rebuild it. I will have to, eventually LOL I bought Shimano, which used regular mineral oil.

The Oury grips are rad. My one son has a pair of lime greens now. He was telling me about them as if they were new to the world. Told him they're OG MTB grips. I have a bunch of Oury decals in our garage from when they were still made in CO. Blew his mind.

Lizard Skinz now owns that brand, but they have retained the same quality.

Does anyone know what it looks like if you put a cage skin over a paintjob? Can you still clearly see the colors and design in the gaps or are they super small and its not an issue?

If it’s printed and cut design, then definitely; if it is an entire design on a few sheets of vinyl meant to cover the entire mask, then it depends on the installation.

  5. Added Shimano hydraulic rear brake to my Dirt Jumper build. I was becoming quite irritated with how I couldn’t stop on the bloody thing. I have a Hope rear disc (203mm), so stopping shouldn’t be an issue, but it took WAAAAAYYYY too long to stop. Normally Avid calipers do the job, but something was off. Also replaced the grips with Lime Green Oury, which are super nice grips. Pix to come…

I've seen a couple XS holders fail. Some of the lower-end player skates use different parts for the retention pin and rotating knob. The cheaper ones can seize up/get stripped/misaligned sometimes, especially if someone rotates the knob too much when taking a blade out.

Not sure if the lower-end goalie skates are using different parts for the holder. They're a little harder to sell so I don't handle them as much...

Part of the reason why I like the XSG holder - besides the flatter stance - is the availability of aftermarket steel. I can find Step Steel for the XSG readily at my LHS since CCM owns Step. I could go on the net and find some Tydan XSG steel fairly easily, if I wanted to give that a try.

If I had a Bauer holder, I don't really have a choice on aftermarket steel. New Step Steel is nearly impossible to find now for a Bauer holder. Not sure about Tydan, but I imagine it is too since Bauer has been enforced its patent.

Anyway. Skates look interesting. Bauer's been pushing the envelope with goalie gear for a while now so I'll likely pick up a pair if they fit.

The lower end XSG holder uses plastic hardware, which CAN be replaced with metal FYI

I have used both. I currently own both. I have had zero issues with blade pop outs on my Bauer and have no issues with the system. Per my math above, I think it's a niche scenario that gets over blown.

I am more comfortable in Bauer and believe it's the angle. Maybe profiling could accomplish what I need, maybe not? I have never had an issue with my Bauer that made my want to switch to CCM and try to mimic my Bauer performance.

That is sort of my point...

It's my stance the Bauer holder is the best holder. I feel better on ice in it and have 0 issues that would make me think the pop outs are an epidemic.

If you think you CCM is better because your #1 concern is no steel pop out potential or you like the flatter position, then that's a fine stance.

I have seen it once in person (a pop out), but it is likely a rare occurrence. If Bauer’s soft steel has been rectified, then I would be happier to try the new Skate bone stock, no changes.

I am, yeah, but Beer League Joe still took my blades off several times. It's not just about the speed of the shot, but how much force transfers into the blade, and into the retention mechanism.

Simple fact is that the retention mechanism is designed badly. The blade popping out when a puck hits it shouldn't even be a possibility, no matter how hard the shot is.

Witnessed Beer Leaguer Joe pop a shot that popped a Bauer blade from the holder, and both the shooter and shootee were equally shocked. Just say no to the Bauer holder.

  9. I can air mine out and whilst not smelling like a rose, it doesn’t kick you in the face, either. I don’t spray, but I also don’t let my stuff sit in a closed bag.

Gracias. I've had two friends that did the slumlord thing. One bowed out early due to the extra work, the other has done it well and it's been paying off.

Long term, the short term pain seems worth it. Especially in the "it only goes up 10% per year" housing market that is Vancouver.

Showing my age here, but that came out when I was maybe a year old lol

Pandemic put a lot of things on pause, so the wife and I are fast tracking it to the end. I'm mostly kidding as the new place was mostly forced by us expecting. We're taking a lot on at once, but hey, now's the time.

With my new mortgage and kid I won't be able to afford beer. :P

Well after two and half months of searching and putting in bids, I've finally managed to purchase an upgraded home for my soon to be family.

Luckily I'll also be keeping my previous property and will be renting it out too. #slumlord

Holy hell. What is that bike for?

    LOL

Snow, sand, or in my case: a tougher bike workout! The inertia of these wheels and the ponderous steering make it tough to ride.
