I need to replace the blades as they tell me because they are worn so far down they will not fit in the machine correctly. I am using CCM VECTOR 04 goalie skates and they have the original PROFORMANCE blades. I see blades out there, but none of them look like they will fit. Does anyone know of a cheap blade that will fit and replace these ? I saw a CCM/REBOOK Proformance Lite blade at GoalieMonkey, but not sure if these are the same or will even fit in the holders....

thank you for any help !!

I know I should prolly just replace the skates, but you know how it is when you have a comfortable old pair and dont want to give them up lol

    What size boot?

    Sure, there it is !

You see the crack on the black part but also the crack continues along the way between the "Carbon" part and the black part towards left side and right side.

If I try to move the white part that holds the blade, I can see the crack opening up and closing back.

A lot of plastic like that doesn’t stick to epoxy; however, there are other glues that do stick. Then you have the problem of reinforcing around the area; unlike carbon fibre and wood repairs, it will not be stronger in that area when repaired. I would certainly see if someone could replace the toe cap before trying any DIY.

  3. I think equipment specs will likely be left alone with the growing numbers of 8 and 10 goal games. The modern stick, combined with great technique taught in off-ice training really makes shots super hard to read. I can see an open blade and the shot stays on the ice. Closed blade could still mean the puck goes over your shoulder, or a lacrosse/Michigan goal. Or a fake Michigan like I was burnt on. Some slippery tape isn’t going to make much of a difference with how puck handling has improved dramatically over the last twenty years. Had Brett Hull not practised his Vodka/Tonic game and did some golfball training with his stick, he would have been even more dangerous!

It's all good. The scorer is young enough to be my son or I am old enough to be his dad.

What can you do? The young players have great skill and I can cling to the notion that the Michigan on bunny and the lacrosse on me are nothing more than hot dog moves together with "back in my day, someone would have knocked him into the parking lot". But skills are skills. However, this was the first time he and I skated together so now that I know what to look for, he wont beat me with it again.

In the end, we have to remember that slap shots were once banned (with the exception of black hockey) and were once seen as hot dog moves.

On Friday, I lost my virginity on the lacrosse goal. I finally got beat on it. Usually I just stay on my dinosaur feet and move to the other post and the puck hits me in the chest. No big deal with my outdated "technique" of staying on my feet. This time I got outsmarted.

A really good player was to my left in the corner with the puck and no one pressuring him (not a surprise) with another good player wide open between the rings in the slot. I was up against my left post (the way a dinosaur like me would be) expecting him to pass to the man in the slot. The skater with puck however began to skate to the back of the net where he had done the Gretzgy pass over the net 4 or 5 times. So I got low on my skates getting my head under the cross bar and expected the puck to come over the crossbar to the man in the slot. Instead, the SOB lacrossed my backside on my right and tucked the puck in the upper right corner. First time I've been beaten on it. Oh the humiliation and shame. The skater tapped my pads and smirked. (I had been kicking his backside all night). Of course with my previously noted big mouth, I congratulated him on a nice move and called him a donkey hole. His smirk turned into a laugh.

I was beaten by a fake Michigan. The guy I was supposed to watch out for pretended to pick up the puck. He acted like he had it on his stick, but he didn’t, as his winger picked up an easy back door goal. 🤬

Vaughn offers options of Stiff and Extra Stiff in the thigh rise, as well as a Stiff option in the scoop if that's your bag.  In talking to Dennis back when I ordered my set, he said not a single one of their pros in the Velocity line uses the Extra Stiff option.  He could probably look up Mrazek's build for you if you really want to know the specifics, though.

What I want to know if how Mrazek gets his pads to sit so high on his skate.  Mine will only do that if I run the professor strap as tight as it'll go, which creates other problems, most notably with rotation but also just in comfort.

Running the boot strap through the Lundy loop on the skate would raise the boot.

  7. I have modded a modern set of pads to be as flumpy as they can be: outer rolls are less dependable as springy and fewer hot rebounds. Now that I have paid more homage to Irbe, they’re ugly and flumpy.   Flumpy pads RULE.

  8. The problem is that people can hide behind their keyboard. I admit to being guilty of the last minute pull out in years past, but well understood that it wastes the seller’s time. I have had it paid back. As far as asking permission: DON’T. I mean, unless your singular mode of transportation was screwed up or you ended up with a life-changing surgery that you have no clue how  things will turn out, don’t back out of the sale or otherwise jerk someone around. For me, a response saying “wish I could afford; GLWS” is acceptable; doing that mid-deal is terrible.

  9. That’s a bummer that you can’t get a replacement. I would actually see if you couldn’t have the toe cap replaced by a good repair person before attempting a DIY repair. Depending on what materials were used in the construction, it may not take epoxy as some plastics will not stick to epoxy. If you can’t find anyone to replace the toe cap, that’s when you would gamble a DIY repair. I know that I would attach the toe from a cowling after the repair!

I currently run a lundy loop with a really really loose leather strap on the Vaughns. Would you suggest no strap, or even a loose lundy like I am currently running?

You can try it. I just have a feeling that the Bauer isn’t going to be off by much and you’ll be in almost all of the same places when it’s all said and done.

Thank you for this informative post. I've actually emailed Vaughn this morning as well to see if they had any information regarding this spec that was made. Hopefully they get back to me!

For what it's worth, the Vaughns have less total inches from the top of the knee landing/knee blocks to the top of the pad than the Bauers do... about 8 inches vs 9. I hope that the Bauers won't be too big as a result!

If the boot is soft enough, you probably could wear the pad lower on the leg and you would be good.

  12. Hello! Love your handle, BTW.

Vaughn pads of that build spec settle as they are stuffed pads and don’t use a core. Without seeing measurements and such, the thigh drop could be anywhere from 10-14” as thigh rises weren’t capped at that time, so for all intents and purposes, they could be 34+4” for all we know.

The boots have become shorter to accommodate the ability to wear the pad higher on the calf with the assistance of a Lundy loop and professor strap so a taller thigh rise can be made legal. The way pads are measured these days are vastly different than just ten years ago, and you’re comparing custom pads to stock. You can give the same sets of measurements to three manufacturers and have three different sizes of pads! For example: I am a 31+1” in CCM, but a 32+1” in Factory Mad and 33+1” in PAW and they feel identical on the leg where my parts land!

Bauer has led the way in fit ranges going back to the Supreme pads and Reactor 6000 series. Surprisingly enough, they pretty well hit it on the nose for size averages.

  13. Another Crew Defender. Amazon cutie rims, Visiontech base bars, Blackwell aerobars and brake lever, Dia Compe Hombre BMX brakes, Sinz grips on base and aero bars. Flite neon green stem pad for the BMX element to go along with the half-link chain. Soon to be installed: WTB ThickSlick tyres in white. I remember what it’s like to ride fast on this bike.
