Not a butterfly slide kind of guy. I move on my feet and drop and get up and move in most sliding situations. Sliding too much (or much at all) to me, throws off my balance and screws up my positioning.

Hell I used to put tape on my knee landings of some of my old pads to keep sliding to a minimum.

That's why if I go the Optik route I will demand in the largest lettering possible on an order form for regular jenpro on the inside edge only.

    Unsolicited suggestion:

You could also ask for Nylon knee wings on the sliding edge - it will feel tackier on the ice than tape.

  2. Not sure if I've posted these before.  I flipped through a couple pages but didn't see it.
Got these a month ago from Frank Cipra.

Pro's Choice 961 shell.  I like the backplate a lot more than the ridged one that Dom does, a lot easier to work on for the painter too, I'm sure!

Just carrying this over from the GSBB.  This is actually a few months old now, from the Fall season. We're well into the winter season now and tied for first place again. Funny thing is, we beat my old team in a high scoring goalie duel, if that actually makes sense lol.  Nothing better than beating your old team.

    Funny you post this.

I'm playing on two teams in the same division.  The first team was my old team before I "retired" - I'm on full-time with these guys.

The second team is a bunch of my old friends from working at Hockey/GoalieMonkey and a few other folks.  If there's a scheduling conflict, I default to the first team.

Both teams are undefeated so far; 3-0 with the main team and 5-0 with the second.

I wonder what I'm gonna do if we meet in the championship game...

@TheGoalNet So believe it or not I actually do 99% of the cooking in my family and I don't have a food scale, I do it all to taste, not one of those damn bakers who NEED recipes. That said, I'm ordering a food scale today, mainly for the purposes of weighing goal equipment.

I can't say 13a feel lighter than my previous V5s... but that's like comparing apples and oranges. 1 skate down and they feel VERY mobile. Length is about the same and the slimmed down thigh is noticeable when getting dressed, but 13a do come up significantly higher above my hips and integrate much better with an untucked Premier C/A. The ability to close 5 hole without door stop thigh blocks has taken my desire to shave about 1"-1.5" off my leg pads a NECESSITY. More to come...

After taking a couple bruises through the front thigh pads on my V5s, I've got these bad boys inbound:

See you tomorrow, sweet prince pantalones...

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your pants untucked.  My main concern is lack of a lace tie down in the front crotch as I added a nylon loop to the inside of my chest protector to keep it from shifting around.  I can probably add nylon loops to the front of this pad to accommodate some skate lace.
I think I ordered my Keneskys a half inch to full inch too tall, and if I can get some mobility out of my pants then I am set.

@ruckus007 good call actually... I’m curious if the pro stock ones are made off shore or here. I also thought CCM didn’t really do the beef up kits with old P1 or 11k, maybe that’s changed?

@TGC-Rance - Any insight on this? I know your shop has carried special edition CCM units

My pro stock Reebok P1 Bernier definitely has beefed up arms.  The chest doesn't feel particularly different than other P1s I've handled.

I've handled a pro return Budaj CCM Premier and the shoulder floaters are maybe 1/4" thicker than stock.  Arms look reinforced as well.

The Goal Crease carried a few SMUs -

Colored Reebok P1 (red, blue, maybe white??)
    Colored CCM Premier (blue)
CCM Crazy Light which was I believe had the CCM Pro/P1 body and the P4 arms

Let's see how good my memory is on the first and third ones...

Good info. Not good news if you don’t like that graphic

is that typical for Vaughn? Only the stock graphic for a certain period right after launch

    Yes, pretty normal.

I wanted a V3 pad with the V2 graphic back in the day.  I got shut down.

Single solid color is always an option.

Can anyone compare the Fit 1, 2, 3 to the retail CCM sizes?

Specifically, which one is closest to retail medium and retail large? Thanks!

They kind of fit in between.

    I'd say 2 - 3 is Large (with the 3 being a "big large")

    3 - 4 is an XL.

I was told by Dudo to use the sizing chart and use waist sizing.  Pant length and width at the thigh blocks should be the same across all fits.

And after finishing the season three points(one win) out of first place and a +57 goal differential we absolutely shit the bed in the playoffs against the one team we just cannot seem to beat.  We are now 0-7 against this team over 3 seasons.  But I got lots of pictures so, there's that, I guess.

Which Brown unit are you using under your jersey?  I picked up a used one a couple weeks ago that smells awful.  I'm debating on giving it a couple good rinses and giving it a shot.  I think it's a 2400.

Was your regular cut 3/8 on 3mm blade or 4 mm? I use exactly same on 3 mm blade and I´m am curious, what this means in other methods. Thanks.

I believe my 3/8 cut was on 4mm. I remember trying to put a FBV on them and the sharpener couldn’t get a good enough edge on them. I suggested the wheel they have for the FBV was probably for 3mm wide player skates and I almost saw a light bulb go off for them.

First trip with this bag.... I don’t know how I’m getting my gear home.

Crazy, that just happened to me Sunday night. Same shoulder too.

I ended up carrying it as a regular bag until I got home

PM Tim, he will help you out.

I’m just gonna sew mine with an awl.

    Looks like he edited it:

I still don't know why there's mention of Bauer, but I guess it's better than it was.

Still, looks like he listened to me (and the likely huge number who called him out on his mistake).

He had Bauer holders, not the True holders.

Thanks for the reply Moose. So with an FBV is it safe to assume that you get a little more blade edge contact for pushes while also allowing shuffles and such to be smoother?

    I'm on a 100/75 FBV, came from a regular 3/8 cut.

I'd say shuffles are slightly less grippy.  C-Cuts feel a little swifter/easier.  The biggest difference I see is when I'm chasing a dump in, I have much more speed in getting to loose pucks.

Less resistance with pivots, too - but how much is hard to say as I changed to a FBV the same day I got my skates profiled.

This was around the time I first joined the GSBB, I remember whilst Rbk were rolling out the P1's post-lockout, for a few months pro's could still get Koho branded 590/580 sets (photo below is of the last set of 590s I remember seeing in the pros 05-06 season).

And you also had MAF going from P1's to Rbk branded 590's and back again.

One of the biggest things I remember from Lefevre back then was that they refused to do any mods to their gear even for pros, as their ethos was 'this is the way we've designed it, this is the way its supposed to work' so it was a big deal when then finally offered a double break on the P2s!

GSBB was lightning in a bottle in those years.  It came around at the perfect time...

There was so much stuff going on in the background in the pro ranks.

The league had just resumed play after the lockout with new sizing restrictions and you had guys like Snow come up with pretty clever ways to trick the system (boot risers??)

Smart phones were starting up around then, so you'd get potato cam pictures of guys at training camp or during games. Pro Return gear became more readily available both by retailers and on platforms like eBay/Craigslist/etc.  Folks on GSBB would obsess over strap placement, an extra inch here or there, "pro logos" (lol) - then others would get the same mods to their personal set and people collectively lost their shit.

We had Lefevre in one corner, not willing to make even the smallest change to their design.  On the other side, we had CCM who'd clone and mod anything if you'd ask (and were a pro).  Turco, Belfour, Brodeur et al. had Vector graphics on their gear.   Someone decided to make their gear available at retail.  I took a lot of calls during that time for Brodeur or Belfour spec CCMs.

TPS released a Lundqvist spec pad and I swear to God, we must have gotten a dozen calls a day from guys in Sweden calling in at 2am their time wanting to buy it and I never had an idea why.  They were something like 34+4s and the superficial knee rolls looked like they were moved DOWN on the face of the pad to make the pad look taller.  The glove would never close.  I don't remember anything particular about the blocker.

For us regular joes, if you wanted custom it was pretty much Vaughn or Brian's, and the Brian's gear was (IMO) pretty bad around that time.

I ordered a set of V2s once, one of my requests was for HD foam in the outside roll. I was promptly shut down.  I was told "it'll cause the clarino/jenpro in that area to wear much faster, and from the inside."  The V3 came out a year later and guess what?  There's HD foam in the outside roll!

Me too. Original P1 and P2 were two of my favorite stock graphics.

Man, those were the days! I worked retail then, during the transition from Koho to RBK branding.

Do you know if your set was made at Lefevre or CCM?  You could tell by type of font they used in the embroidery.

If it was in block letters, it was made at Lefevre.  Cursive font means it was done at CCM.  The RBK branded CCM gloves were really weird and the closure felt "off" - didn't matter if it was a 580 break or 590.

As employees, we had no way of requesting where we wanted our pads to be done.

My buddy had a pair of Koho 585s (which were basically 580 graphic with a single break below the knee) made at CCM.
They were produced with the RBK knee block and the 580 calf wrap.

I ordered Koho 590s the week right after he put his order in and requested the RBK knee block.  I got the RBK calf wedge instead with the standard 3 piece knee wing that came on the Kohos.

Another one of my buddies requested the thumb wedge on the blocker with a 590 break glove and got a 580 break glove.

Such a wild and wacky time to be alive...lol

Anyone have the Passau ( @GoalieTimmy33 ) back pack?

    15 hours ago, bunnyman666 said:

I have not figured out how to wear it without first putting it on higher object (like a bench) to wear it. I know the adjustments are more human error, but the attachment to put the straps together seem to be in the wrong place.

Quality piece, for certain; just don’t know that it will work for me.

I've got the backpack bag as well.  It was initially a bit of an adjustment but I think I have it dialed in.  I do have to use a lot more upper body strength to get it over my shoulder, but I think it makes up for the stress I put on my one hip (usually right) when I am going to and from the parking lot.  I still sling my pads over my shoulder as that is something I've always done, and it is less work to unpack when I get home.

Don’t know if anyone has ever thought about this but I just bought my first set of pro level equipment. I want it to last and look the best it can. Are their certain ways you pack your bag?

I make sure everything fits but I’m focusing more on how you put your Gatorade, water, shampoo and body wash in your bags. I don’t want this stuff to leak out and stain or ruin my gear.

For shampoo/body wash I buy the wash that does both.  Less stuff to lug around.  You can put it in a plastic/sandwich bag so it doesn't leak.

I don't drink Gatorade, I actually take Scivation BCAAs - lots of tasty flavors to pick from, just don't get the watermelon unless you like watermelon Jolly Ranchers.  Strongly recommend Fruit Punch and Blue Raspberry.  Unlike Gatorade, there is no sugar, no crash.  Much better priced than the Biosteel stuff and it does a lot of the same things for much cheaper (90 servings for $40 on Amazon).  It's cheap enough that I used it to replace a bad soda habit as well.  You still get electrolytes to help with recovering lost fluid.  Also helps with muscle soreness the next morning if you had a particularly rough night.  I usually stock two versions: BCAA Go with the red lid has a bit of caffeine in it for before the games (and the morning after), and then I have a shaker bottle with the regular kind for after.  I find shaker bottles are a bit more secure than the regular water bottles.

I usually pack my jock, jock short, socks, and knee pads into my pants to save space.  Then mask (in it's own bag), glove, and blocker.  I also have a couple washable mesh laundry bags in different colors to differentiate wet and dry.

I typically shower at the rink.  When I get home, skates and helmet are taken out to air out, then gloves are placed into a Rocket Dryer.  I usually dump the wet garment bag into my washing machine and go to bed.

New Bauer 2S Skates and NME VTX arrived for testing. . .

Carbon steel on the skate - looks neat.  I'm assuming it holds an edge better and mitigates that "lost edge" feeling when banging up on the posts?

Everything they sell is garbage. The only things I've heard good things about (besides how "cheap" they are of course) is the visors, and I guess that's because they're inexpensive so you don't care if you scratch it.

Believe it or not, those masks are HECC approved...
