I had a pair of CCM's with the XSG holder and they used plastic retaining screws, one of which snapped during warmups of an A-level men's league game for me.  Fuckin pieces of shit.

So the screw material isn't the same for all of their skates. Some plastic, some steel. Son's plastic one broke in warmups. Pro shop didn't stock new screws (why not?). So I drove to the local PIAS about 7 mins away. Bought a pair of used CCM skates with the steel screws, drove back in time to put them in my kid's skate before the end of the first period while he was sitting on the bench.

One of the kids on my team last season had the toe box of his CCMs actually fall off of his skate while he was putting them on so he just taped it back on so that he could play the game. So now he has bauers.

Exactly same issue x2. Clear tape skills are clutch. Worst part is that my son is a 17 year old defenseman. Not the best thing to be with a broken toe cap. Junk.

I think Matthews has actually switched though... too lazy to look deeper

I see like no pros in the new Bauer PowerFly tuuk holder or Hyperlite 2 helmet. Both of those topics interest me for player gear.

That's the Tuuk that 'reacts' to skating style, right? Hard to have guys in the NHL switch to something that flexes or whatever while skating. I'll look for it at youth levels first then these kids will eventually carry it onto the NHL.

The new helmet is better than the 1. Again, hard to have NHL guys (creatures of comfort) change up their stuff. Same with youth carrying it into higher levels.

My kids' teams mostly use the Bauer 150 helmet as they do team orders. The under $200 price for that helmet is a welcome addition to the nearly $1000 annual uniform cost per kid. The Hyperlite is closer to $400 I think.

  4. As a parent of kids that play. The CCM holders are always a problem. My kids won't wear CCMs anymore. I've had that wheel thing break too many times. One kid had the actual holder snap mid game. Also had the goofy toe cap/boot connection on the outside break on two other skates.

Really crappy when these issues occur mid game after driving hours to the rink. I'm pretty handy with clear shin pad tape.

No more CCMs for my boys though. I understand how the NHL guys don't bother with them either.

they don't make any real changes, but I'm not lost as to that's the massive appeal of them too.

They literally refer to their breaks by using Koho glove models. Koho stopped making those gloves over 20 years ago.

I'm going to order a Bauer glove with a GM12 break.

    Bet.

*insert joke pertaining to shots going by you instead*

Obvious way my gear is still alive nearly 25 years later.

Better goalies wear out their gear making saves. Better goalie I am not.

  7. Sportmask Mage RS. I think off the top of my head. I had to request a L/XL when I ordered it.

The decorating is for the two flags of Scotland.

My 7000 pads are softer than a bed of feathers. Kids I play against are amazed how I don't give off rebounds.

  8. Early Spring I weighed in at 290 lbs. Today I'm 215. I won a mountain bike race last week. Last time I raced was the year 2000. So I entered the lowest class and managed to outride the rest of the people.

  9. The older Grand Cherokees are ok because there is a market to keep them going. Some of the other SUVs from that era are pretty much forgotten. Added bonus is that Jeep fans have documented life keeping the Grands on the road so much, that any issue you have - likely there are dozens of videos on YT how to remediate/repair the issue.

I dig older Monteros or even some of the Range Rover models - but keeping them alive is quite a challenge here in the states.

Look around while you drive and see what is still tooling around on the highways. I still see a ton of the GMC Envoy/ Chevy TrailBlazers around. They're big and drive really nice (I had an 2004 Envoy). Their parts are available too. Not bad considering that GM retired that line in 2009.

GM put out over 2 million of the 'GMT 360' line. They also sold these as Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X.

I always dug the Saab one. But the ignition in place of one of the cupholders kinda sucks.

I had a 90s Grand Cherokee and it scared me off of Jeep/Mopar altogether. but I think the next gen 2005~2010 was much better in terms of reliability.

Every car model sold has ones that disappoint people. Stinks. The 90s Grand Cherokee - the ZJ - was ground breaking at the time. But, like all new from scratch models, they are plagued with issues that come up. Later generations typically work those bugs out.

I have a 1995 Wrangler today that I bought new. $12,500! No radio, no ac, no airbags or ABS. Safety? Sure. Still have it today and drive it as much as possible with 250k on it now. I've owned two 4 door wranglers, a 1999 Cherokee (shoe box), and some others.

Just to let you know that I passed on both vehicles. Still searching. Not easy to find reliable wheels for under 5000$, especially a compact pickup that doesn't date from the late 90s lolll.

I'm in the same window as you, Rich. Dealing with house mortgage here and I need to drop off all loans. So I'm looking to trade in my newer GMC Sierra for something straight up.

I was looking at the problematic Jeep Commander or a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Commander is cool looking as it's square and kinda luxury. But it eats gas and is a forgotten Jeep model these days.

For me, the Grand Cherokee seems to be the better fit. Seems like the 2005-2010 ones are about that cheap.

  12. I was selected for my adult league all star game this year. Not too shabby considering I was retired since before covid until this past January. Add in that most guys are late 20s-mid 30s and my 46 year old ass is doing ok.

  13. Yeah, the 'regular skate' games are fun for a while then become work. If you stop going, they'll eventually call you back to play. The skaters want a challenge, so they won't come if there's some trashcan standing in net. I did these skates off an on for years. I get bored of the same dudes playing the same game every week. So, I don't miss them really.

Fun part is that the skaters can take a few shifts off to rest then can leave when they want. You see the guys take their 'last shift' 80 minutes into it and exit the ice rather than go to the bench.

Meanwhile you're stuck out there until the least few guys finally call it. It sucks.

SK2000/HM30 is on top of my bring back list. Miller pads (cm7's maybe) lightened up.

I just watched the new Flash movie. If you run fast enough, you can go back in time and keep these going. But the past is like a bowl of spaghetti where timelines intersect.

Maybe have Bauer keep the SK2000 alive and upgrade it rather than kill it off.

I had that set with a matched set of Cooper DuraSoft pads. Terrible gear. The Trapper was heavy and clumsy to use. The pads were the original Shape Shifters, Blocker - OK, but not good.

How dare you say anything bad about this gear...

I miss the days when goalie gear was changing so much year to year and things like this were released to the masses. Who will remember goalie gear from the past five years?
