How are you gents getting on with your mods? I am in the same boat where I just can't get the top strap to feel tight enough or feel "konektd" to the skate for quick forward/backwards c cuts compared to my regular skates.

My version of the mod continues to function perfectly. I do hope the next iteration of the Konekts includes more options for the top strap. I love these skates but that's the only thing that's keeping me from buying a backup pair.

    Good to know.

What was the main reason why you didn't like it?

Again, just my opinion and experience, but for me with a Professor strap I’m looking for it to be directly behind my knee, above my calf. No matter what I did with the Tune Fit, it always felt like it was resting on top of the largest part of my (measly) calf, not providing the support where I want it.

Anyone that's gone from using the professor strap on a pair of Ultrasonics to using the Tune-Fit+ system on the Machs, how comparable is the feel?

I struggled with the strapping on my 2S to the point of abandoning the pads, but my 3S pads with the professor strap has been fantastic for me. Just trying to see how the Mach strapping system compares.

IMO, they are not comparable. I tried to make it work with the TuneFit strap, but ultimately had to install an after-market Prof strap on my Machs.

Good news is that with the Professor strap, the Machs are great. I don’t use any knee elastic (same on the Ultrasonics). Just the Prof and the little elastic strap that connects the calf landing to the outside of the leg channel.

ETA: just to clarify, I completely removed the Tune Fit straps from both pads.

In all honesty, the best thing that will help in all areas would be to lose some gut.

With that out of the way, could you maybe loosen up some straps up top to make it bounce less? What I would also try to do is add sections of 3D0 or materials with similar properties like adiprene on the outside of the chest where any puck would deaden against your chest and drops down in front of you.

I was going to suggest the same. I wear a Mach too and the rebounds are quite hot (my only gripe about an otherwise amazing piece of gear). It may not just be your body shape at work here.

I fully covered the knee and calf and I came to the conclusion that it was a bit too much slide.

Try doing the knee only and see if that works for you. IT should be quick and easy because the knee landing is square. Trimming and cutting for the calf is a little bit tricky as it is trapezoidal.

On my Ultrasonics, I just did the knee landing and they were fine. On the Machs, something about the calf landing plate changed the sliding so I went ahead and covered the calf plate too. They are awesome now.

My method is to cover the area in wide blue painters tape and trace the plate. Then I remove and put it down on a piece of thin plywood and cut out the shape on my bandsaw. Then I use the plywood template to cut out the PPF. Works flawlessly for me.

I just took this step and no complaints. Feels the same as my stick tape hack. I am sure that Bauer will make aftermarket parts in the coming years if Konekt is here to stay... but for the moment drilling the hole is the best way to get a tighter fit above ankle. These aftermarket parts will only be available if Bauer allows the bolts to be removable. Currently, the top buckle is not removable. Besides the hinge, I am hoping future models will include removable screws and make the customizing a lot better. I also hope Bauer understands that some users need a tighter fit and provide a way to solve this (even Bauer adding the extra hole on the strap would suffice).

Do you have a photo showing how you did the mod by any chance?

To anyone that’s had to replace the lower buckle does the clip part screw all the way out? So far I’ve not had the issiue, but I’m trying to source a spare part from a retailer in the UK just in case and they seem pretty adamant that the whole buckle has to be replaced.
    Thanks in advance.

The clip unscrews - see my post in the other Konekt thread -

Anyone know if there exists a loop piece that is compatible but shorter in length? I was thinking that might be another good option for those of us who are looking to tighten the ankle strap down more than stock.

Ok so I went back to the Ultrasonics while I wait for my Mach's to come in from Warranty, and well it is definitely the Mach material... I was in shock at my sliding again.  Definitely a case of getting used to the Mach's.  After having used the Mach's for a while, the sliding I had last night was almost too much!  Ended up sliding out of the goal on one side to side play.  Definitely thinking about altering the pads someway to get them to slide better.  Any recommendations on what to use, I have seen electrical tape and some sort of polish or waxy stuff recommended, anyone have specfics?

There’s a thread on this, but I highly recommend the 3M ViViD PPF product. I have it on my Machs and they fly.

No wrist strap is precisely the reason I like Warrior gloves. The strapping across the back of my hand is phenomenal, and I've got a very slim hand. I have yet to find a glove that gives me the same range of motion with my wrist, and also feels as locked in as a Warrior.

At first I thought you were simply trying to revert the Warrior strapping ingenuity back to the traditional setup most every other glove uses which is counter productive. But alas, I now see what you are doing. Isn't this available on the G6? Guessing here.

Your idea makes sense as myself I don't like to strap down my glove like crazy but would love to feel secure that my GT2 won't fly off my hand on a solid sniper. The mobility would still be full on as intended. Cool.

I own and use the Kova strap (first on my G5 and now G6). This is the beauty of the design - you maintain full wrist flex but have a more secure feeling that the glove is anchored to the wrist. I found that I had to crank the backhand padding uncomfortably tight to get that 100% confident feeling that the glove could not come off accidentally during play. It’s a pretty ingenious solution IMO.

Gonna ask here since I asked in a specific thread and no one answered.

How do you fit the inner pant belt with a goalie cup? Doesn't the upper padding of the cup get in the way of tightening the belt?

No problems with this on mine. The padding of the inner belt does not come all the way around to the front and the belt itself comes out of the waist protector near the front for tightening. I wear a Bauer Supreme pro model jock and I don’t experience any interference.

@Punisher Goalie are you in Canada or US? US clients get to order directly whereas Canadian clients have to go through a pro shop. That could explain the delay maybe?

You ordered the Pro Spec ones. What size? With or without suspenders? I'm asking cause if I try to wear mine that are XL without and don't tuck, they feel like an oversized diaper falling off my ass. I see a lot of goalies play with their pants loose, mostly the teens, and shit ain't even sagging. I know it's not cause of glutes implants lolll. Maybe the internal belt? Never experienced one before.

I'm in the US and placed my order on the website.

I ordered size small (30" waist) and do not use suspenders. I use the backplate fight strap on my Mach C/A fed thru the internal belt to connect at the back and I use the front laces to tie into the front of the C/A. Has the dual benefit of keeping the pants up and the C/A down.

I would say if you sized these right, the internal belt seems solid, although I don't really use it as intended.

Nice- my pants are ~15 years old, tried a pair of Warrior X3 Pro +'s and haaaated them, they were just too bulky for me.  I've had my eye on the McKenney's for a while, might have to scoop them up.

Yep, those are the exact Warrior pants I switched out of and for exactly the same reason.

Did you get the pants yet?  If so what’re your thoughts?

I did. Very happy with them so far, but only played in them <5 times. Build quality is outstanding. No issues with fit or protection so far. I like the tapered waist as I prefer to have the belly pad of my Mach C/A hang out now. I also really like that it does not have a bulky spine protector (like my Warriors did). I really dislike having my jersey get tangled up or have the spine protector pushing against the backplate of my C/A.

Just one relatively minor gripe and I hesitate to even say this because its a small company and they seem great in every other regard - although they say "in stock and ready to ship" on the black pants, mine took 10 days from ordering to actually ship. Just think anyone ordering should be prepared for this slight delay.

Crude in comparison, I just cut to size a piece of adhesive backed ECOProFoam I had from an old mask refurbishment and slapped it under the grey loop where the top Konekt strap goes through. It has held up well over 5 skates or so now. It may just be a placebo effect as it does compress to a fraction of its thickness, but certainly hasn't negatively affected the skate's performance. V02 of this could see the use of some strips of Maltese with a thin layer of neoprene (also adhesive back and left over from a mask refurb) that would not only be slightly thicker than the current test solution, but stylish to quasi-match the green Ultralon. 😎
@Chenner29 had mentioned the ECOProFoam lace bite pads that are intended to adhere to the backside of a skate tongue with velcro which might be worth trying too.

Not crude at all - that’s actually an even simpler solution. I just wanted to have the option to easily remove and potentially change the thickness of the foam if needed later. The lace bite pad on the inside of the tongue is a good idea too.

  15. Here is my attempt at making an installed-but-easily-removable mod for taking up volume (same effect as shortening) on the top strap to lock in my skinny ankles.

As I posted above, I have been sandwiching a piece of thick foam between the strap and the tongue to get the desired effect. It has worked perfectly for 5+ sessions, however I don’t like the extra step of having to place the foam behind the strap each time I put the skates one (come on - a huge part of the appeal of these skates is the quick on-and-off!).

Since this doesn’t have to be a very high-strength component - the nature of the “sandwiching” keeps everything together - I simply superglued fresh blocks of foam to 5.5” long pieces of 2” wide OneWrap (hook on one side, loop on the other) and wrapped it around the upper strap where it overlaps the tongue. Conveniently, in the “small” setting on the upper strap, the notch at the end of the metal hook/bracket keeps the contraption from sliding off the strap. Note - loop is on the outside as hook might cause friction/wear on the boot of the leg pads.

Haven’t been on ice with it yet, but it appears to function exactly as my prototype solution, so I am quite optimistic.

Loving everything about these skates and these minor mods have added another dimension of fun!

I think that's already been addressed in the thread earlier. No additional wear was found during testing. But there's also nothing stopping you from putting a piece of sacrificial adhesive nash or jenpro a la PadSkinz right at the bottom of the boot.

Earlier in the thread it's pointed out that Bauer wants you to put on a toe sleeve during fitting to allow for toe room. Given that the shell and liner is made for all widths, there should be no issue for your individual foot as long as you use the sleeve.

I would go so far as to say I think there is probably more friction between the top of a normal skate (laces, eyelets, etc.) and boot of the pad than with the Konekts.

This is my mod for Pro Laces.  Tie the lace through the loop in the liner and then place UNDER the lower buckle so it doesn’t have tension on it.  Leave enough slack so you can slide velcro staps through.  Better than having anything directly attached to the buckles!

I am using the skate lace loop too. I think this is a superior method to the one posted by @TheGoalNet (no offense) because it stays attached through the pull loop all the time and does not require you to reattach or make sure it stays on whenever you release the lower buckle.

Your idea of holding the skate lace down with the lower buckle is an interesting one. I haven't had any problems with mine above the buckle yet, but I may give your version a try.

Did you go with the Pro Spec or the Elite?

Went with the Pro Spec. I prefer not to have the extra spine protector, which tends to interfere with my C/A with most pants.

GoaliePro out of Finland were a big user of their gear. They came up with their own brand but I'm sure Mckenney is ghosting it. Maybe Jukka (Ropponen) can confirm. He's one of the lead coaches for their pro mentorship.

    https://goaliepro.com/

I own their older model Pro series, before the internal belt and they are top notch. I've been playing in them for 10+ years and they are just recently showing some wear. Of course it depends how much you play, what level and how well you take care of your gear. Protection is perfect. The Elite GXP2 model has to be on par with actual NHL gear.

Thanks for the response. I decided to order a pair and give them a shot.
