I have had various sets of bungee toe ties throughout the years and liked certain aspects of all of them. I decided I was going to combine those aspects and make something faster and more reliable for myself. None of the ideas I used were invented by me, but I combined them all to make something I haven't seen/tried before. I did this in the past and really liked how it performed, but it needed improvements. Now this version has all the improvements except one I am still thinking about how to achieve.

The reason I revisited this style (was using Pro laces and really like them) is to save a few minutes of time, no more weaving the bungees through my skates. With the 'Rona raging about we are only allowed in the rink 15 mins before the skate, so saving as much time as possible is now a thing (I used to show up a minimum of an hour early to stretch, warm up, do visual training etc.). Also I upgraded to some V9 pads and Pro Laces won't easily go on there without a new toe bridge anyways!

    Concept:

The bridge is a tab style attachment that mounts to the pad in place of the stock toe bridge

The bungees stay on the skate permanently and interfaces with the pad via a tab. No removal needed

That way when I put my pads on, I don't have to lace the bungees through my skates each time, I simply insert the tab in to the toe bridge and squeeze it together and I'm good to go.

Attached to the pad - excuse the crooked sewing being a concept and all, I just wanted functionality. Once I hash it all out, I'll make a "betterer" set lol

Great build. You are obviously a very talented modder! I like the name too.

Only thought/question - is the weaving of the elastic even necessary with this style attachment? Couldn’t you just do a small loop of elastic in the toe hole since you are leaving it permanently attached? Might help avoid and entanglements and it would be less exposed elastic cord to possibly be cut by a skate blade during play.

Just a thought. Either way, well done!

Not to ruin anyone's game plan but, watching some of Trav4's recent videos with Pasco Valana, he points out a few important things to consider before doing a Bob spec mod to your stick, along the lines of affecting the lie angle, down position and deflection control. You can see a few examples as he is doing the drills.

In any case, you can still try it out for fun if you wish.

When someone as recognised as Pasco drops some science, you wanna hear him out.

Yes, definitely true. I’ve already cut a stick with an approximate template I made from an earlier post (see attached). I really like it so far - I like feeling lower to the ice and more the more connected feeling between the blocker and paddle. I had been struggling with blocker saves and after an adjustment period I’m seeing an improvement.

Does anyone know if its possible to cut a bobrovsky style grip into either a ccm axis 1.9 or a bauer 3s pro?

Does anyone have a good template for the Bobrovsky grip? I know it’s a long shot but I was hoping to find a printable PDF or something.

I’m a little sour now, I ordered mine 4/14 and still haven’t received them. Maybe a solid color is quicker to knock out than several colors? I’m guessing two more weeks for mine, they still have to get them In then ship them to me

One thing I'll mention is they got to the retailer on 6/22 and shipping to me was very fast (UPS ground basically came overnight).

Looks sweet, I’m jealous! How long ago did you order them and from where?

Thanks! Ordered 4/21 from through Pure Hockey (Wack is the man), received 6/24 - 9 weeks and 1 day. At the time I ordered, I figured August/September return to the ice was likely, now looking more like September/October here. Plenty of time to drive myself crazy tinkering with strapping, etc. lol. At least I have the Lightning Bolt ball launcher to practice with the glove and blocker!

Haha, color's a bit muted in that photo - its definitely a true Sport Gold. Really happy with the color.

The G5 palm seems to be thicker than G4 or G3 probably to help with coveredge

Ok, but other than the palm thickness being different, do you know if the G3/G4 palms can still attach to a G5 glove. I have a custom set on the way - I ordered an INT 75 palm in my glove just to try it out. I have a G3 90 degree palm I was planning to use if I don’t like the 75. I may need to reach out to the rep who did my order (although I swear I asked this question early in the process of putting the order together).

Picked up a G5 Pro glove earlier today and this is the first glove I’ve ever tried on that feels like my G3 Pro. Unfortunately they had no 90 degree G5 palms in stock so I’m stuck with the 75 degree palm for now (G5 palms and G4 palms are not the same I found out). Can’t wait to try this thing in a few days

Wait, what? I thought they were interchangeable. Do you happen to know what is different?

Cheers for info on the toe ties definitely up for trying them just wasn't completely sold on the idea but like the idea of less stress on my ankles for sure.

Onto the mask Ill post some pics too. First thing I noticed when tired it on was how comfy the padding was felt really soft but the shell is solid as you like. Only down side is I dont have a chesty at home right now so cant try it with that but the mobility felt really good I've been using a CCM Pro mask for last few years and that was one issue I found I had when looking over my shoulder or straight down maybe just me but first impressions Im hoping this mask will fix that definitely feels that way.

Are you able to weigh it by any chance?

On the toe ties question, only thing I’d point out is that the G5’s have a non-traditional attachment point for using laces or a 3rd party elastic set up such as ProLaces. There’s no extra “tab” connected to the toe. There is a set of holes built into the jenpro at the spot where the stock elastic strap connects. There are a few pictures on this site that show it clearly. You 100% can attach ProLaces there, but it looks like they may work slightly differently on these pads based on that connection point. I have a custom set of G5’s on the way as well and plan to try using ProLaces with them first.

So @Punisher Goalie  what was the verdict on this?  I just bought a brand new 1X glove so I’m interested. Haha. Way to bring back an old thread, right?

Ha yeah it was a challenge with that glove to be honest. I went with the bake-and-clamp/bake-and-stretch method over and over. Eventually it will soften up. Silver lining of the shutdown, I suppose, you’ll have plenty of time to break it in. Good luck!

Extra padding in the thigh and hip area. Only thing I requested that they missed was to remove some of the lower interior mesh that gets caught on my Brian’s knee pad Velcro. Can’t wait to get these on the ice. Def more protection than my standard optik1 pants and the internal belt will be something new to try. I don’t tuck and currently use a Passau pro pack chesty. I might get a optik2 chesty to try.

Nice. Any chance you are able to weigh them? I realize they won’t be the same as the retail version due to extra padding but just trying to get a ballpark.

looking at the shoulders has me thinking that the "Hellebuyck Halos" for the chicken-winging will become a thing.

Very interesting. Does anyone have any insight into the purpose of those caps? Is it really so they provide more coverage when “chicken-winging”?

Another new pickup, 3 game used Halak Bauer 1s sticks. I had always used his Sherwood pattern and 2 years ago broke my last one. Sherwood was no longer making them, and he made the switch to composites a couple years prior. My search had been on to find his Bauers sticks and it has been hard to do as the only place that had them was the Isles store and I live in Canada. I couldn't be certain if I was going to get broken/damage ones as I was not there to pick them out myself. I had also picked up a Halak Chest protector and I asked the person if he knew where to get Halak sticks ? Long behold he said he had some to sell me. Am finally happy to have these sticks after my long search.

Are those Tacki Macs? Does Halak use those or did you add?

  14. Now that I’m a “suspenders guy” again, decided to try out a set of @KovaGoalie. Build quality is outstanding and they arrived much faster than expected. I was particularly drawn to the design with the adjustment slides in back because I like to tuck the suspenders straps between the clavicle area and the should floater. Only downside I can see is that I’ll need to spend time dialing the fit in at home because locker room adjustment seems like it would be difficult.

Do they have a good grip, similar to Bauer’s?

Yes, the V1s have good grip, but not similar to Bauer’s, in my experience. For me, Bauer is way too sticky. The V1s have just enough tack to hold on but it releases easily for puck handling/poke checking. All personal preference though. As you can see from earlier posts, some have added grip tape on top.

Does anyone know anything about this composite model for sale on ProStockHockey? I emailed and asked for the weight of the 25” model (their customer service is excellent in my experience, btw) and they came back with 840 grams, which seems extremely heavy for a composite. I know Warrior says a painted surface adds about 20-30 grams, but still seems like a lot.

  17. Holtby got knocked out of a game against CBJ due to a stick blade to the eye last season:

    https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/capitals/scary-eye-injury-knocks-holtby-out-capitals-game-vs-columbus

Agree however that these injuries are exceedingly rare in the NHL, especially when you consider the volume of games, shots, practices, etc.

The one counterpoint I would make is that beer leaguers tend to have poor stick control and are more likely to get a stick blade up in your face due to carelessness. This is why I would never wear a half visor as a player - too many accidental sticks to the chin.

  18. My Coveted 905 bucket came in. Big shout out to @ron@covetedmask.com for an outstanding customer service experience. His method using measurements and photos has got to be the closest you can get to full “custom” without the head mold.

Paint is matte white with a matte black powder coated cage. Pictures really don’t do it justice, I am so happy with the look. Original plan was to make a matte black vinyl cage window (probably will still try that) but I’d be happy without too.

Lol. Just around the house. Still working on dialing in the foam. Was trying to get a new cage and chin set up first too.
