I am back to cowlings. Will not go back to cowling-free unless I hate my feet and want them broken! Cowling free skates suck, just say no to cowling-free , and I think the skate companies DO NOT CARE ABOUT OUR WELFARE!!!! They want us with broken feet so they can sell custom skates!!!!

I'm not concerned with my feet safety, they do their job there. It's the performance issue that concerns me. I'm not sure if it's the less weight or higher runners or the boot itself. I baked them twice and I still don't feel like their an extension to my feet/legs. I miss the old days skates. Those felt like slippers and moved with you any which way you wanted. I think I have Price-relapse-a-skateous. Might need to go back ?

  2. My Vapor skates saga continues. I've got the X700 and I've been trying to adapt for the past year. Today I laced them on just for a Midget goalie evaluation I was helping with for a fellow goalie coach and christ it felt like I had just learned how to skate last year. ?

Is there that much difference between the 700 and the 900 and the 1X?

Has anyone gone back to cowling skates?

Is there much comparison between the new CCMs and the Vapor line? What about the Graf 1050s?

I'm really getting tired of this shit! I have so much better control in my One80s, they were just a half size too small unfortunately.

Here's a great life hack I picked up on the GSBB:

If the noise of a dangler annoys you,  go to an automotive supply store and buy clear car door liner.  It is like a puck, hardened rubber, with adhesive in the crease.  Cut it into pieces and place it on the chin of your mask and/or under your cheek where the dangler might make contact with your mask.

I use two separate 1/2 inch pieces on the chin and one 3 inch piece under each cheek.

It'll significantly deaden the clanking noise and sound more like a dud/thud.

Not sure if that was brought up on this site,  but it works like a charm.

You can see mine in the pics.

If memory suits me right, I think Armadillo used a rubber lining on the mask's edges...or was it Eddy masks?

  4. So I deliberated with myself for quite a few days before I took the plunge despite my budget and went and ordered this Warrior GT trapper at a crazy low price from The Hockey Shop out west. It's the senior model, not the pro. I face a few heavy bombs now and then but won't be playing pro anytime soon. Owning a Smith 1000 catcher already, I figured this would feel close enough yet much lighter. If there is one piece of equipment I'm picky about it's the trapper, followed by the mask, then c/a. If the glove feels good on my hand, I plan on following up with the matching blocker and pads. I would of went custom had I had more flex in my wallet and choose Boddam which is not so expensive for the high level stuff. More to come soon.

  5. Not sure if it's been mentioned here yet but, I just got wind this morning on the GGSU Facebook page that WALL USA and WALL Finland are in a drama dispute or feud or disbandment or whatever. Not being sure if the info is real or faked, has anyone else heard any of this?

Well, can’t goaler right now (probably never could) BUT saw my new physio again today, and she is UNBELIEVABLE!!! She’ll have me back on the ice by late August! In the meantime, I’m doing the exercises, saying the prayers, and taking the vitamins- and supporting small business, so here is my beer: Starring Zythos, by Beyond the Pale brewing company. (If you’re ever in Ottawa, first ask yourself “WTF am I doing here?!?!l” but then check out Beyond the Pale)

Seems like I`ve missed quite a bit. Whatever your injury, I hope it was either during a splits widmill save or an all out brawl ;). Get well quick.

As for your beer picks, I think I`ll start posting my own finds on the frenchie side. :)

  7. Into craft brews, especially stouts.

For the stouts I really enjoyed so far...
    - Le Castor
    - Glutenberg
    - Beaus Cherry Stout
    - St-Ambroise
    - Murphys
    - Mill St. Cobblestone

Also trying to find the right tasting non-alcoholic beer for those days I don't feel like a knock in the head or liver. Super Bock is a good one so far. I did enjoy this one below, but the company stopped making it :(

  8. I'm getting ad text cover ups as well the past few weeks. I can't even find the X box to close them on my laptop. Using Firefox.

It's annoying as shit!! Can't enjoy the posts or follow the discussion properly.

I use the new yellow ones, I think they call them Hockey Carbon now. (there used to be grey ones called carbon that were not for skates, these are new yellow ones.)

I use them because I have custom orthotics to help my feet from pronating, and these give me a bit of similar support. Not exactly the same, but better than nothing. I like the new ones better than the older ones, a bit more grip to them now. I probably wouldn't say it's worth switching out just for the grip though.

    Edit: Custom 1S skates btw

Have they given you a snugger fit in your skates?

  10. Has anyone swapped out the Bauer insoles of their X-S skates for Superfeet ones? How is the feel and fit? I've used their yellow insoles before on a previous model/brand.

  11. Starting this thread cause the boys at the factory aren't much interested in marketing it seems.

So I've been using their pants for about 2 decades. Good product! I'm currently wearing the 870 c/a with the previous 890 arms. Hate the elbows cause they are laced-in on one side only whereas the other side has extended (extra) nylon instead. Makes the elbow rotate sideways when putting the unit on which is annoying. Wish they'd lace in both sides instead. For reference purposes, I'm 6'2 190some lbs and I chose a large. (pics 1 & 2)

I've been very curious about their updated 890 model. Looks bulkier than their previous years but quite solid. Has anyone seen or even tried it? (pics 3, 4 & 5)

  12. I watched that video a few days ago and, the vets on here will know what I mean, it seems that they readopted the wrap around padding that D&R Panta G pants had. Am I right? I remember mine, they literally wrapped the thigh from left to right, no breaks or bulkiness, and protective.

RichMan. Where did you order that bag from.?

I bought it at the Source for Sports affiliate shop (Marc Sport) in Gatineau Quebec, my area. They don't show it online. Funny enough, online I saw the Brian's carry bag that I was opting for, and when i went to the store mentioned, they didn't have any Brian's bag so I chose the Powertek one, although there's no mention or print of Powertek or Barikade anywhere on the bag itself. At least not that I have found yet.

  14. Looking at the CCM above and others on the market, I can't figure out why manufacturers still use a straight line zipper for goalie bags instead of a standard U-shaped opening?! It's so much easier for packing/unpacking.

I had a tight budget and my Graf vinyl bag was on the fritz. I ended up buying a goalie vinyl Powertek bag tagged for Source for Sports. It's a 40x20x20 with skate pockets at both ends. Sturdy bag for under $60. Pictured left is the model, pictured right is the kind of finish it has...
