    Stir up indeed....

It's a legitimate consumer question. Is HD foam that much more expensive than LD? Is 1/8 of extra padding that more expensive? There aren't that many more bells and whistles that separate the pro and senior retail products. I could understand going from a grand to $1500, but near double the price is big.

I would post these same questions in the Vaughn or CCM or Bauer threads but they don't have a rep there to answer questions. I exclude the Brian's threads cause they have a multiple various product line unlike the Warrior and a fore mentioned brands that carry entry, senior and pro level of the same model.

I cannot be the only one who has thought this and wonders why.

If they don't want to answer the question, it's their prerogative.

    I'm simply asking.

  2. Ok, this might stir up the tank but I gotta ask...

I'm looking at gear on Pro Hockey Life and comparing prices. The SR warrior pads are $999 whereas the Pro SR is $1949. That's nearly double. I know the shops set their own markup but the prices are pretty standard to what I quoted wherever you look. So I ask you this (Warrior), I, being aware that there is a slight difference in the internals used to fabricate the Pro model, are the materials used that much more expensive to justify the huge gap between the SR and Pro stuff? And don't feel like you're the only one I'm questioning here. Vaughn, CCM, Bauer - they all are doing the same thing.

    Just curious to know, understand.

  3. My issue with my Mckenney 870 is the sides. If I overstretch or sprawl around and they come out, they catch on the side of my pants and won't go back in unless I take either glove off and fix it. Annoying as hell during a game.

There are a handful of guys that completely revolutionized gear in the 80s and 90s. John Brown, Jerry Wright, Greg Harrison, Mike Vaughn, Michel Lefebvre, Pete Smith, and Brian Heaton.

I find Brian's history the most fascinating and thought other people could share their knowledge of his "industry time line" or correct errors in mine

    • Industrial Design Degree
    • Works at Cooper - Designs Cooperalls, brings color to player gloves, and uses the "Tuff Stuff" & "Dura Soft" to minimize the use of leather in goalie gear and reduce weight
    • Starts Brian's Custom Pro Shop in Windsor - Fixes gear there and develops the famed Brian's Star Logo. Store is still open today!
    • Begins work on Brian's branded gear
    • Instant hit and tries to buyout financial backer. Financial backer utilizes the fine print to buyout Brian
    • Brian starts Heaton. Instant hit number 2. Helite 2 and Olaf Kolzig are the first retail graphic option
    • Around the start of Helite 3-ISH (early 90s). Heaton is purchased by Karhu (Koho, Jofa, Titan, Canadien)
    • Brian continues with Heaton brand and supports update and re-launch of Koho goalie gear
    • CCM acquires Karhu in late 90s and forms The Hockey Company
    • Brian leaves for TPS after Heaton 6 (or Launch of Heaton 8!?!). Designs XHale, Contour, and utilizes Brock material
    • Comes back to CCM for Heaton 10 and Blockade. Blockade is way ahead of it's time, but a commercial failure.
    • Brian departs again from The Hockey Company to form BHG as direct to consumer

Lets not forget...never played goal in his life. Who would of thought.

  5. So last night I was glancing at some saved pics of gear and as I looked at the GT pads, I had a "hmmm" moment.

So the calf wrap/channel is composed of a large velcro system. Unlike Pete's original gear and many other brands out there, I wondered - if at one point in the life of the pads, the velcro get frayed to a point where both part don't adhere to each other as well (even though there's a buckle present), does the user have to send the pads in for a full replacement which I presume wouldn't be cheap? Would a removable two ended velcro strapping system be more convenient?

Zero issues on my R/GT Sr gear.

Don't know if I asked you this before but, any serious stingers with the catcher? What level shots are you facing?

I think Bauer will be a bit taller, but I didn’t have them side to side.

no plastic will interfere with your pushes

Ok. If you get a chance to slip a pair on, I'd like to know how roomy is the toe box please. And will there be a mid and lower priced version?

  8. 25 minutes ago, TheGoalNet said:

@RichMan - It will be heavier than 2S. Attack angle should be similar. The boot should be more heat moldable and have a True like energy transfer.

2S will also have taller steel

CCM skates seems to be a nice bridge for people reluctant to try a no cowling or needing a more accommodating fit. 2S will be the pinnacle of minimal design and light weight

So it's gonna be as tall in the runner as the Bauer ones?

Anyone get to see these up close or even try a pair?

Here's something that bugs me concerning Warrior sticks. I went looking for some specials and although I didn't buy one of these but have used the same model last year, I find it alarming the discrepancy in correct measurement and fabrication. It's the Warrior foam core Quick model. Both sticks are identified as 26" with a 14 lie, yet they are clearly not the same length. And this is not the first time I've noticed it with your sticks. I have an Emery model that is identified as a 27.5" but was no longer than my then 26" Quick.

This leads me to wonder if any of your sticks are true to size? Have I been using a 26", or rather a 25", or maybe even a 27"? Brings confusion where it shouldn't, especially for the newbies in the position.

  11. I'm still sporting my Reidic mask I got off of estogoalie some 6 years ago or so. All white, chrome cert. cat-eye cage, a Habs helmet sticker on the right side, a Bulldogs (then AHL farm team to the Habs) helmet sticker on the left cheek, a Gatineau (Hull) Olympiques helmet sticker on the top and the number 33 on the chin. It continues to serve me well.

Only cool story I can state on the mask is when they held some goalie tryouts I attended in Broisbriand for the famous Montreal-Quebec hockey series some years ago. When I got on the ice and skated near the bench, one of the shooters asked me if I played for the Bulldogs. I couldn't bullshit him but it did make me smile huge inside :)

I think people on here know that I am probably borderline obsessed with light gear. For me personally, I notice a difference and lighter makes me comfortable and feeling nimble between the pipes

The one items I haven't sweat too much? The HP12 pants I have. They are light, they move well, and they are protective. Pretty minimal design too. I completely respect the challenge of making your item more appealing during web shopping or a quick trip to the hockey store, but these pants are beyond solid. It's shame they just don't call these "Pro" and keep them running at retail.

If any piece of equipment should be taken seriously in terms of lightness, it should be the following: mask, glove, pads, skates. That's my opinion.

My Reidic mask weighs like a feather compared to the Hackva I've worn some years ago. My 700x skates are much lighter then the One80s I wore. My Smith 1000 glove and pads aren't the heaviest but do have 10 years or so of usage and I'm anxious to experience the newer stuff to compare.

  13. Daffy, I know you've mentioned a couple times that Jason won't do a bindingless blocker but looking at some old pics of mine, he did do so with the then Liberator model he was making. It looked pretty decent to me.

I know Bernier tried a Simmons and Passau before. Then got stuck with CCM =p.

I want to know the construction of the C/A's though. They're noTHING like what we get. I've held a Backstrom C/A a couple years back and noted beefed shoulders, biceps, forearms and plastic in the belly blocks.

They could as well just get into Brown units, John already puts plastic in all the right places.

@RichMan I actually wonder the opposite, haha

Goalie Gear Nerd had a nice post the other day showing guys who change their main gear company and keep the chesty

subban still in Brian’s, Elliott still in Bauer, etc

I figure guys get used to a feel and don’t want to change. So I’m curious when they change from a CCM to a Vaughn, why?!?

I can see a guy say having worn Brown forever and get approached by CCM to wear the full kit and him saying ok, except for my c/a and they agree - or not. But I'm sure some guys will see or hear about a new model out and might get curious and maybe even switch. That's where I'd like to hear what made them switch on their own. Protection? Mobility? Durability? Vision/clearance? Adjustments? etc.
