  1. Not only are they playing in a college arena, I believe they will have to take a backseat when it comes to scheduling priority because it's not their facility.

I agree that for a young, single player this would be amazing. You get a sort of college experience while making tons of money. Don't forget the condoms 🤣

Damn that sucks.  Hope everyone is ok.

Yep, everyone's fine, we still have the main floor to live in so it's just a little more cramped. At the end of the day, it's only stuff that needs to get fixed/replaced. Not the end of the world!

I had a Mazda Protege 5 a while back... like you said... it didn't blow the doors off with power but it held everything and was fun to drive. Of course I modified it some... but was a great car. Pretty sure the only "performance" AWD Mazda made relatively recently was the Mazdaspeed 6. Finding one of them now in good condition isn't far off from a unicorn.

Yeah, I've looked at those in the past and they all, at least in my area, suffer from rust horrifically. They're definitely a sleeper though. I wish they'd have made them with the wagon body! Another unicorn would be the Mazdaspeed Protege!

Nice. If you get a lead and wouldn't mind sharing, I'd appreciate it!

Absolutely will do, I'm sure anyone using Warriors that likes the 3M tape on the wings will want to get them.

Same here. That will be an instant purchase for me to try on my G5s.

I asked Warrior about it back in January, they said it would be offered for sale separately. I replied to the email thread again today and am awaiting a response. I've also contacted The Hockey Shop to see if they can get it in for me.

Some context. I started organized hockey in 1971. Played continuously until 1984. Missed 84-85 season. Played continuously from 1985 to  1995. Picked up again in 2015 to present but not in a  league, the semi organized drop in I've mentioned elsewhere. Here's my injury CV:

    1) destroyed left glenohumeral joint with which I played for 2 years - reconstruction effectively ended my super serious youth to college hockey career

    2) torn right knee medial meniscus

    3) torn left oblique and bruised liver

    4) 3 medically documented concussions

    5) torn right glenohumeral joint

    6) grade 1 sprain of the right acromioclavicular joint

Keep in mind that the gear was junk. All the joint injuries were from crashes or pileups in the crease/slot. Of the list, the most painful was the oblique and liver. The oblique took 6 months to resolve and the liver bruise literally put me down. It felt like I had lost my wind but I could breath. My legs, however, just collapsed leaving me in a fetal position. I then understood why boxers target it.

Liver kicks in MMA are no joke....it doesn't look like it should do what it does, but the body just stops working.

I've been told of the date custom orders will go live, but I'm not sure if it coincides with the retail launch date though. But it's soon. Unless it gets pushed. I know a launch from another manufacturer has been pushed already.

Bauer Konekt skates are this year.

Good, I need to buy some of those slide plates!

  8. I just recently sold my Audi S4 due to not being able to justify spending more on gas in a month than one of my mortgage payments. Gas prices are crazy. I was paying $7.37 (CAD) per gallon.

Listed the car on a Saturday, sold it the next day at 6 pm, bought a Mazda 3 hatchback at 7. Instantly started to save upwards of $300 a month in gas, the Passau bag actually fits in the back nicely, insurance is cheaper, parts and labour are cheaper. I don't like driving it nearly as much though. Going from 400 horsepower with a lovely stick shift and rear biased AWD system to 155 and FWD is a bummer.

I am finally considering taking a jump in the Warrior pool. Been using Brian's and have been happy, but they are falling apart and time for a new set. Would like to get more bounce on my rebounds, so been thinking the G5 for lightness, glide and stiffness.

Where did you guys or at least @Puckstopper order your set from? Clearly customized right? GoalieMonkey, Pure Hockey or somewhere else? I tried on a pair at a local Pure Hockey store and although they fit different than other sets of pads, I liked them quite a bit. Wasnt too keen on the glove however. Has yours loosened up finally?

Any insight on G5+ vs G5 Pro? Seems like twice the cost for a few less ounces? I must be missing something.

Finally trying to determine if the cost is worth going custom or just get all black. Personally, i'd just take this entire set as is and be happy, but I dont see anywhere offering pads beyond white or black.

With G6 supposedly coming soon, i'm wondering if i should just wait and try those or see if the G5's drop in price. Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Do it, they're great. I've been mostly in Smith/Warriors for the last 8 years and have tried a little bit of everything else, but for me at least they just work.

If you don't feel compelled to have the latest and greatest, get some G5s and just get the slide plate kit that Warrior is coming out with on the G6. When I asked, they said it would be available separately.

If you're not opposed to secondhand sets, there are usually a few used sets available on either Sideline Swap or GGSU and other Facebook groups.

  10. I reffed hockey for 10 years. It's been 8 years since I last did it, I don't miss it too much.

Quit because it started actually costing me more money via turning down OT at my day job when I'd made a commitment to reffing already.

Actually, other than being required to use player skates, I did a lot of shuffling, c cuts bumping off the wall to get out of the way of players and pucks and a good amount of backwards skating so thinking about it there was some overlap.

  11. Jumbo just needs that 4 goal game and accompanying antics and he's a lock.

Someone said Vasy's too soon, if he retired tomorrow I can see it. 200+ wins, multiple cups, how would you not?

  12. I had a set just like that. They were good, but needed somewhat regular application of snoseal to keep them from becoming super waterlogged.

They also had the ability to change out the board on the blocker for a color change on the holes.

  13. Had a mostly good game last night. Bailed out the team I was playing for when a d-man fell and lost the puck in the slot multiple times. Blew it in the last two minutes though when a knuckling/tumbling puck hit the inside of my blocker and then went off the post and in. I find it hard to separate the feeling of having a good game with one unfortunate moment resulting in a loss.

Stick prices are almost at the same level as the housing market in Toronto - it's detached from reality. I need really good justification to process the fact that high end sticks are around the same retail price as a catch glove.

Ha! A Lefevre glove is $700 CAD!

Cheap composite sticks, go to Canadian Tire. Warrior and I think Sher-Wood are the brands, one model of each, 99.99$ and 119.99$ I think.

Yeah, I hate having to settle for a curve I don't want though. The one by me at least only ever has one option.

  16. Is anyone else blown away with how much sticks cost these days?

I've had 2 out of my 3 sticks break recently, so I was shopping around for a replacement and even a low end composite is around $150.

I don't need a top of the line stick anymore (realistically never have), but I was curious what they go for and was shocked to see that a True Catalyst PX is $400, either high end Bauer and Warrior Pro+ lines are $350, and a CCM Axis Pro almost seems like a comparatively good deal at "only" $300.

Am I just showing some age by seeming to remember that $200 used to be the price point for a high end stick?
