So while I'm browsing the web, I came upon Pure Hockey and low and behold, they have the Bauer S23 Pro pants custom option (colours, stripes, logos). The price is high in US funds. Is this just a PH exception like the THS or TGC specs sheets?

You can customize them on the Goalie Monkey website as well.

I am curious to hear more on how their pads are too customizable,

I didn’t specifically mention the pads. And I said Custom options are great when you order custom. I*** personally am not a fan of the removable palms etc that Warrior does. And that’s what I meant by trying to be everything to everyone. With the 6.1 and now 7.1 they don’t require that which again “to me” is a step in the direction I like.

This is why I still prefer 1 hard strap behind my knee/calf instead of all velcro.

Brossiot had his pad come off similar to the picture mid game a couple years ago. He since has had a nylon strap that loops back similar to True pads. I’m surprised it isn’t stock and or requested more by Pro’s. I did see it on a Wedgewood demo set.

Pretty sure Vaughn just has a pure stranglehold on the pants department anyways.

They do, but there were always variations in makes and models based on the Velo line. With Pants Pro’s tend not to change too often throughout their career, there were always tons of outdated and older models guys seem to have updated as well as a ton of guys who were in CCM which used to have a huge stronghold in the pants department.

With minor hockey it’s a different story, I see a lot of CCM.

Some good points. I kinda like messing with all their options but at the same time a streamlined pad would be cool too.

Just curious, what pants do you like that present bigger?

Right now for pants probably the Vaughn SLR pants 3/4. These have quietly moved into the most used pant in the NHL. I think they present well from a straight on position while looking at a goalie in their stance or butterfly. Seem to have decent seal in 5 hole, in RVH leans, etc.

I coach a lot of kids. I might see 100 goalies in a year. The few times I seen Warrior pants used they present like an upside down triangle if you know what I mean. Very wide on the hips and they (visually) look to taper as they get closer to the pads. Again this my objective take on it. You may love them and how they look. But it seems like even the Warrior Pro guys like Smith and Gorsuch aren’t using them.

  6. I really want to like Warrior equipment and the G7 seems to be a big step in the right direction for me. There is some great innovations with the equipment and how it’s designed to stop more pucks. Then there are some things that just turn me off. For me personally it’s almost to customizable? Custom options are fantastic for custom, but on a stock set it might try to hard be everything for everyone. For me they should focus on making it their way, for better or worse like other companies do where its a motto of “this is our design take it or leave it.” Maybe add a second line that uses their best ideas but is closer to market trends and then a full on Pete Smith line where he can just run in whatever crazy idea he likes. I think Pete was doing better leg channels on the 6000’s 15 years ago which line up with todays market place.

A lot of steps in the right direction for Warrior, I hope they continue to push forward.

Last gripe, they need a full overhaul on their pants. Optics aren’t every thing but man, I find they don’t present well in terms of coverage, like the barrel cut pants do. They’re so hip dominated and chunky, looking like my old Koho 590 or Sherwood 9980 pants.

Do you mean the finger protection is one piece?

Looks like Mach finger protection with the traditional Supreme (US/2S/1S) cuff.

Per the video: Cam mentions at 5:26 the new default is jenpro instead of speedskin - not sure if that applies to all stock retail sets? I think @ThatCarGuymight have pointed this out a couple months ago? They also mention that CCM claims weave is worse on fresh ice. They also mention that the change in materials and design -> increased sliding -> 24% improvement in sliding on clean ice and 37% improvement on rough ice. How much of that is due to materials (reversion of speedskin to jenpro 😂) and how much to design?

    Jumping on the #2 bandwagon!!

I submitted the following set this morning - minor tweaks to previous set I had posted.Legs.png.607c340169275b17e367a1bec74db40c.pngGloves.png.ceeeae895b27ae044a073357fbcc43ea.pngBlocker.png.1d98245fd5155cc147c5bff56561b2c1.png

I gotta say this one is amusing. CCM has done the testing and the science proves that solid Jenpro is the best for sliding.

Yet for the last couple of years consumers have said that that Speedskin actually made sliding worse and CCM insisted that we were all wrong and that is superior.

And now, CCM  coming with this science approach as if it’s their new discovery. So much so that you can’t actually get Speedskin on your sliding surface at all anymore.

I feel as there is less variations and secret sauce stuff. But the 2000s was certainly fun for that “Fleury foam/ strapping.”

The orange Easton suspender at one time had this reputation as it kept popping up after Easton closed down. And certain shaped Bauer dangler.

The closest thing I can think of now, is like Pro only stuff, such as the 2S based glove a lot of guys use. More guys in the NHL are using the 4.1 gear over the Hzrdus stuff. But I wouldn’t say they’re nearly as coveted to be true Unicorn’s.

Hmm, interesting. I tried on a few different browsers and such, not there for me.

These were actually helpful videos. Made me glad I went with the options I went with. I'm glad the videos totally showed what's different with the 12.x vs. 20.x lines in the leg channels and such too.

Most interesting thing I noticed is that the HZRDUS pads, if you put just the nylon option, has no elastic strap coming out of the knee.

Price actually started this at the end of his career, albeit with a leather strap instead of nylon.

  13. Those started to pop up in clearance. I upgraded from Heaton neckguard I’ve had for 20 years.

The materials do feel thin, and I can see them wearing out but mines been good in the 15 times I’ve worn it. It is rock hard when cold and gel when warm I find.

Overall I’ve enjoyed it. If I could change anything it would be a dip on the front of the neck like some of the Roughneck ones. And I’d like a dip at the back as I’ve had my backplate catch on it on occasion.

I am thinking on looking up Dave Wilcox or someone to reskin it in the summer if that were even possible.

    Awesome.

What were your thoughts about the change and why did you go back?

I also assume you don't use a professor strap?

I added the Vapor professor strap and enjoy it better.

It’s to hard to say exactly how it felt. It worked enough, it could secure your leg in there but I felt like it wasn’t designed to be there, maybe that was more mental that physical.

Anyone ever added a Tune Fit + strap to an Ultrasonic pad?

Yes, it worked well enough. I ended up switching back.

Looks like the graphic was rubbed off by the wearer trying to clean puck marks away. The set has next to no marks for a graphic that faded

I believe the pads are second set received at Christmas. And he’s still using the original set gloves.

True does not offer a glove with no wrist strap, so that is not really a comparison? CCM made it available to their pro goalies and must switched.

Yes, small sample size, but validates that it's well received when promoted and well executed.

Most Bauer pros in Supreme use older glove models.

Fair I guess. But if the lack of a wrist strap was essential, the True guys would be wearing CCM.

As you said all the Bauer guys have the option of a glove without a wrist strap and choose gloves with one.

Most CCM 580 pro goalies are using the 580 with the Cross Form (no wrist strap). I don't think Bauer was wrong to remove the wrist strap. Better still be on the customizer.

I don’t think that sample size really says much in comparison to the True 580 users who use do use a wrist strap, with quite a few still using leather wrist straps.
