Lefevre calls Freddy at the beginning of the season.

"Just gimme what that dude in Montreal has"

    Other similarities:

I wonder how deep this goes

    Edit

Same CCM AB18Pro chesty and red Vaughn neck guard

What's next, jock strap and underoos?

The theory continues to gain momentum.

  2. The Canes are wearing black pants for the first time with their white uniforms in team history? (I’ll note that the one piece True skate has really re-emerged  in the NHL this year after a year or 2 of guys switching to the 2 piece).

Also let’s take a look at Freddy’s True One Piece skates, having the the lower part painted white. This provides more evidence in my ‘Freddy Anderson is a Carey Price fan-boy theory.”

Since leaving as the face of Bauer Freddy has more or less copied every piece of Price’s wardrobe.

Price in Lefebvre with leather straps and Cowling skates in 2020. Freddy switches to Lefevre with leather straps and cowlings.

Price switches strapping so does Freddy. Is that a 590? Freddy is in a 590. Pro’s choice and Vaughn pants? You betcha.

Price back to one piece skates? So is Freddy. Paint your cowlings white? So will I.

They basically wear identical kits minus the sticks.

We have a Jim Carrey Cable Guy level stalker here.

“I just want to hang out, no big deal.”

Did they change anything from the US to the MACH blocker? It doesn't matter for me, because I went with the 2-piece blocker. Been looking to get one of those since I tried on the 1X blocker in the store years ago, but was dissuaded from buying it because the people working the goalie section said it had durability issues and would fall apart in 6 months. *Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery voice* Failing to do so has been my biggest regret.

You can see my photos of the new cuff on the previous page.

  4. I came across this Mach prototype blocker a couple weeks back. The cuff is interesting, it doesn’t change the feel a whole lot.  That said playing with the Ultrasonic I’ve never thought to myself, I wish this cuff wasn’t here.

I went on Getty images to see if I was right in noticing Quick with a silver paddle last night. I was wrong. However, my guy is still wearing thigh boards🤦 and has quick slide on his v4s. Plus, @seagoal @Chenner29 call me crazy, but are those KNOTS I see on Quickies toe ties? Why yes they are, and they are there to correct the rotational issues experienced by those of us who absolutely crank the straps on our leg channels to make it as tight as possible! 😂😂

p.S all jokes love you guys!

I’m trying hard not to be the semantics police, but they’re not “thigh boards” but lace in “thigh guards/knee pads.” The thigh board that hangs out your pants is illegal as per NHL rules.

That said increasingly rare but not extinct yet. Typically associated when Vaughn guys. Greiss, Petersen, Gibson all from this season. And I recall Carter Hutton for the Lefevre style ones over his knee pads as an added layer, but I can’t find any photos.

I’ll take a picture when I get back to from away games but that reminds me of my 2s pro blocker (with the cuff cut off) almost exactly. Does it have the ultrasonic palm with neoprene on the back of the fingers?

Yeah it does, it has a tighter fit on the backhand then my UltraSonic but its the same soft neoprene style palm.

the biggest thing is the glove just ending and not continuing into a any sort of cuff. I am not sure if this was cut off or made like that.

Interesting, could be a proto but I'm leaning more toward it being a custom order.  Hyperlite with Ultrasonic board and sidewall is a custom option with Bauer.

If it has the stock Hyperlite graphic in the front I'm like 90% sure we're looking at custom

The Vapor/Hyperlite family has used the thinner board since 2X, I don't see them winding back on that for a prototype.

It’s all white no graphic. The only Hyperlite feature is the logo.
I haven’t seen the Mach blocker in hand yet, it could be a proto for that line. I’m 90% sure it’s a prototype, I just don’t know for what.
The blocker came from a kid who has been getting early release Bauer/Prototype/Demo gear for a couple of years.

Maybe this was a way of combining the 2 piece (1X) open cuff and an Ultrasonic. Before deciding to resurrect that blocker for custom?

  8. I’m going to hijack this thread,

I have what a believe is some sort of prototype blocker branded as Hyperlite. It’s an Ultra Sonic board and sidewall but it has a different cuff then both the Ultrasonic and the Hyperlite.

There is wide open cuff. A similar style to the 2-Piece (1x) style but wide open after the palm.
I’m not sure if it was cut out or made without it, but certainly an oddity.

My oldest is 6' about 180. He's 15 now. Plays D. Forever and the day growing up everyone said he's gonna be a terror when you can hit.

But now? Small defenseman are what is in style. Team USA for the Olympics didn't even have one d man over 6'.

My son even is looked down upon because he's big. Small and quick is what everyone wants.

So while big ass kids are the pick for goal. They aren't anywhere else on the ice.

I think that comes from the idea that the D’s job is not to defend, it’s to regain possession and transition to offence. There have been a lot of small, mobile, puck moving D that have gone in the NHL draft the last number of years. And the skating of these kids is unbelievable.

That said a colleague of mine who coaches in the BCHL believes that the the big Dman will make its return and teams will model after Tampa Bay’s big and heavy D.

Your screen shot just galvanized my statement though, its a decades old formula that the fast track to success for a goalie must mean height is auto-elite. When in fact the sub 6'1 and shorter goalies who were at least given a chance are FAAAAAR more successful per capita. I did math for you earlier, i'm glad you ignored it. If the the script was immediatly reversed and 80% of those goalies were 6'1 or shorter on that list, you would NOT, i repeat NOT see 50%, 66%, 75% of the big goalies in the top 5 of every league stats anymore. By the sheer number of tall goalies vs small in the pro's and semi pros you see a split in success at the top, but again, if 60 6'2+ goalies making it pro vs just 10 6'1 and shorter making it pro has never been backed by data that taller is better except lists like that. I showed you real world results and you still ignored. Its all about the dinosaur thinking, and based on that, should the 2 pad stack be a go-to save still too? Not many goals go in when someone does a 2 pad stack so it MUST be used more often right?

I admitted you’re right. What else do you need?

I get to ignore your data because your argument is committing a fallacy. You’re beating up a strawman, and arguing against yourself.

I never said small goalies aren’t effective. I didn’t say they were bad. I never even said “don’t draft them.”

I did say, teams are not drafting smaller goalies and are not forecasting to change that any time soon. This is based off recent conversations I have had with goalie coaches and goalie specific scouts at the NHL level. I provided last years draft to provide support and context.

So, if you think I’m lying about having these conversations with people, or am lying about what they told me in those conversations we can have that discussion.

    I call BS on this.

Currently...... 3 of the top 6 save % in the NHL are 6'1 and shorter (min 8 games started), 3 of the top 7 save % in the AHL are 6'1 and shorter, all 5 of the top 5 save % in the KHL are 6'1 and shorter, 4 of the top 6 save % in the OHL are 6'1 and shorter, all 5 of the top 5 save % in the QMHL are 6'1 and shorter, 3 of the top 6 save % in the WHL are 6'1 and shorter, 2 of the last 3 starting goalies for World Juniors Canada since 2019 were 6'0 and shorter. Khudobin and Binninington both 6'1' and shorter, both starters in Cup finals in just the past 3.5 years.

You are stuck in 2010-2020 bud. The trend is ABSOLUTELY changing before your dinosaur eyes, its just going to take a lot longer then over night to realize it.....

    Damn, I’ve been exposed.

Yes it’s a conspiracy I made up in collaboration with “Big Goalie” to stifle smaller goalies.

My information is completely made up and not at all based on real answers provided by NHL coaches and scouts .

It’s a coincidence that 2021 was the tallest goalie draft class in history with an average of draft pick of 6’3 1/2.

There's been rumblings amongst pro goalie coaches over the last couple years that a trend to smaller guys might be on the horizon.  Most recently, we've seen smaller guys like Saros and Grubauer become very successful at the top level.  Bernier and Halak are other 'normal sized' guys that have been playing in the league for what seems like forever.

The prevailing concept is a legitimate one, and has been the case since the whole 'small vs big' guy debate started:  Smaller guys open up less holes when they move - not just between the arms, but also between the pad and the ice - the "lever" to bring the knee up and push or recover at 100% power is that much smaller.

I love Saros, and hopefully there will always be outliers. While being a fan of smaller goalies and being someone that hates that the size argument is making its way into minor hockey. Unfortunately, I don’t see smaller guys being sought after again.

I’ve heard that rumour of the small goalie comeback but not from people, “I love small goalies but we’re not going to draft them.”
“If we draft a 6’5 goalie and he doesn’t work out it’s alright, if I drafted a 6’0 goalie and he doesn’t work out I’ll lose my job.”

I just completed a interview series with a number of goalie coaches and goalie scouts at the NHL/AHL and Hockey Canada level.
The adage of we don’t look at guys under 6’3 is very strong (they actually use to say 6’2 so it might be going up).

You mention the ability to play on a goalies knees, the skating ability and especially “down-skating” of guys like Shesterkin is/will be so influential on a the next generation of goalies. Teams are looking for goalies who can control and catch their edges combined with a someone whose shoulders stay level with the cross bar while down.

Are the NHL pros moving towards more open and super loose strapped pads with the knee strap down to calf?

Is the knee strap still doing something there with stiffer and more inbuilt kneestacks meaning that is the next strap that'll go away? Atleast with Professor strap it propably is useless.

The Knee strap from the cradle may soon be the next to go. With Professor strap, rotation control, FRS, whatever you are calling it it can make the knee cradle strap redundant.

Carey Price dropped the knee elastic with the True 12.2 opting to go with a leather strap and the FRS. The new 20.2 come “stock” without any knee elastic, opting for a nylon and Velcro hybrid.

That said I don’t think goalies are wearing pads super loose, I actually think they are the opposite. More goalies are wanting a tighter connection to the pad typically around the top of the calf which also allows the overall pad to sit much higher on the foot.

  14. It’s the return of the Lefevre flipped graphic blocker. For those of you that don’t know every now and then a flipped graphic will show up, it’s like seeing a double rainbow.

In an actual discussion, I’ve seen Gibson’s glove have a 20.2 backhand instead of 12.2, Blackwood’s Ccm backhand. Now this, do we think that supply-chain issues are causing Lefebvre to throw on whatever will fit to make it though right now?

  15. And it could be Hyperlite palm and 2XPro backhand, or again my guess is the Hyperlite palm was likely a running update to NHL guys in the 2X gloves, and he just kept his specs as he when he updated the graphic.

Vasi, no you can see the blue placement of the Velcro on the calf.

As strapping changes to sit more on top of the calf you’ll see more guys go without a knee strap like Price did for much of last year.

The True 20.2 also don’t have a knee elastic on the traditional way, its skinnier and more of a replacement for the old leather knee straps.

US prof strap is a bit of a fail, I switched to a Kenesky and put some tape around the Velcro to ensure it holds up. No issues since.

HL prof strap has been fine. No issues with it.

I ended up using the CRS bootstrap and and it’s worked well enough. Considering a switch to the Hyperlite if I can find it.
