  1. New review up on the skillz lightning bolt machine. I forgot to also post the v1 pro stick review as well.

You can see them in better quality on instagram at ay_tries_to_stop_pucks

That Quick mask is just an abortion.

Not that the others aren’t.  This one stands on its own.

I miss the battle armor from eyecandy☹️ That design was and forever will be iconic

From Mike McKenna's twitter - Fleury and Lehner, Fleury also in True...at this point does CCM have any of their main guys left??

I was just thinking about this. Fleury, price, holtby, gibson, even binnington and crawford. At this point is ccm just going to be like koho? A relic or something? Or maybe they’ll just change their name for their goalie stuff like go back to the koho or reebok name and people will buy it😂

  4. Started to work on a custom stick grip with an old foam core stick. The first cut was slightly to wide and still to far away for my finger to curl around. The second cut is closer to the handle and not as wide. Overall feels very comfortable! The next step is putting this on a stick I would actually use. I have two V1 Pros (not pluses just pros) and a 3s Pro (no ergo spine on this). The bauer is my main stick and the one that I ideally would put it on but I don’t know if it would work. If anyone knows if it would let me know!!

The notion that you don’t make stick saves in your standing stance isn’t completely true, i.e. when you’re standing up on the post to intercept a pass, not exactly a save but still.

You should be low when on the post anyway to the point where your stick is on the ice

  6. So I have one normal question and one really weird question. The normal one- how much of my handle can I cut off before screwing with the balance? I heard from goalie gear nerd that you can cut off as much as you want. Now the weird question- can I cut down my paddle? Like, can I cut the shoulders an inch shorter to make a 23 a 22? Oh and one other question, can I cut a custom grip on a bauer 3s pro? That is also the stick I would cut the shoulders on

  7. Just was looking through this thread and noticed many large paddle lengths. For all you 27.5ers out there, I’m pretty sure bishop uses like a 25 or 26. I also see people talking about stances and how short sticks are for people with low stances. This is simply not true. Unless you play like you are in 1980 or before you make stick saves in your butterfly. Therefore stick size should be based off the butterfly so you have no 7 hole and good control of you stick during stick saves. Yes ideally your stick is on the ice in your stance but you don’t make stick saves in your stance is the bottom line. My friend plays triple A and is 5’10 using a 23 and is the best goalie I have ever seen with his stick. I am 5’5 and use a 23 only because 22s don’t really exist especially for full rights.

I have one of these and the neck foam is removable like the rest of the foam pieces. I do find a little hard to put back in after washing the fabric but it goes back in. It’s been a fantastic neck guard for me so far this season.

Have you ever used like a roughneck or maltese or eco pro? Its between the aegis or one of those

Titanium is a very difficult material to work with in cages. The issue is not Ti, it's the welding of the material that is complicated.

I have a Ti cage from Lefevre (gift directly from Pat... had to drop that! 😛) and it's been through 3 masks and going strong. The right process is required to do Ti and then it needs to be repeatable.

What were you dropping, the fact that you are sooooo lucky to get gear from lefevre, or the fact that lefevre is getting into the mask industry and you knew about if before everyone else?😃😃😃

It's good you replace them. Cages denting are good. It's means the energy was absorbed by the cage and less transferred to your head. I believe it's a matter of opinion, but building a cage that is too stiff might actually be less safe

Part of why bauer stopped using titanium cages, however bishop still uses them

What model of OTNY did you go with? I just got my CC and the jury is still out on how I like it. Took one glancing shot off the dome and got some ringing but didn’t feel the actual did or any ouch moments.

Mine is the x1 elite. Was really a good mask while it lasted, except it lasted less than 2 years

That sure does look quite dry fiberglass from the image. But hard to say more without seeing under the wraps and so. And yes, when glassfiber is broken it looks dry on the wrecked area. But all in all leading my thoughts to dry fiberglass meaning very little resin + possibly incompatible adhesive on wrapping dealing with that resin.... Fiberglass mat itself is very stable material.

It was a good slapshot that got there?

It was a hard shot from a skills coach! I swear skaters don’t get any smarter no matter how old they get!

    Hey all:

Thanks for this discussion up to this point - very interesting and informative. @Puckstopper - interesting to hear the rules and reasons in an area outside of hockey - thanks!

Perhaps we could review the rule of thumb for replacing a cage - dent deeper than a bar diameter or ? Right now I have a couple of pretty good ones, but not really looking to replace it if I don't have to (and it's not being used much currently due to the state of the world :().

I just replace them when they look like this😂😂😂

Sorry about your mask, that sucks. I did see that you are wearing a cheater cage on your mask. I wear the same cage made by OTNY on my Eddy Custom Kevlar. I do like the sightlines but it does bend more easily than a certified cage because of the larger spaces between the bars. Were all 3 damaged cages cheater cages? Was your Bauer cage a certified cage? The certified cage will last longer.  I am surprised that you are permitted to wear  the cheater cage at your age and level although I know some Refs see that it's not a cat eye and has straight bars are don't realize that it's illegal.

All the best in getting this resolved, as other have said contact OTNY.

Actually no the bends were on straight bars and I noticed my cheater actually has thicker, stronger bars

I understand your frustration. I once had a mask not an Onty that I just got painted. My first real pro painted mask.  I played about 10 or so games with it love the fit loved the mask.  All was wonderful. We are up big in a game. Puck comes along the goal line towards the corner boards. The Asshat had no shot but insisted on trying to put the puck through me. Well I’m short 5’8 on skates. I took that unnecessarily blast over my left eyebrow above the cage. I saw shit fly off my mask.  I wasn’t hopeful.  Period ended minute later. I gave it a look saw a decent crack in it.  I said well this mask is “cuffed”

Point is playing this position this shit is gonna happen.

    Hey,

    Which model is this mask?

I also have an Otny and have not had a moment's issue with it.  I may need to replace the foam but that's about it.  I got a spare cage when I bought it but so far have not needed it.

I am wondering if the materials in the mask are different from the one I have.

I'm not on the warranty side of things, but I'd imagine a few things would be of pertinent interest:

    1. Who did the wrap?
      1. SkinFX is the only certified wrap artist, and that does not look like something he would do.
      2. I can't comment on any chemical interactions with the shell as that is not my department.*
    2. How long have you had the mask?
      1. Given the amount of puck marks on the vinyl, the helmet looks like it's put in a ton of work for you

** However, I do recall a conversation I had with Frank Cipra back in 2017 regarding Vinyl.  For the younger folks on here, he was a very renown mask painter from the late 80s through early 2000s and did a large portion of the Itech masks in the NHL.  IIRC he said he would NEVER put vinyl on a mask for risk of things like this happening.

    RE Cages

Otny makes 99% of the cages you see out there.  I'm pretty  sure the cages on 3 Pro's Choice masks are subbed out to Otny.
Bent cages are a fact of life in our position - I don't understand the complaints.  I've gone through maybe +/- 5 cages in my 22 years of playing net.

Thats my issue, I had the mask for less than two years. I went through three cages in under a year. I had a bauer mask before and had one cage that never bent for 3 years and no damage to the shell. Just pisses me off.
