  1. So I'm not a fan of the glove strapping, both actually. I feel like I need two hands to get both on, which obviously cant work hah. The glove closure off the shelf is as epic as I've ever seen, however the strap just isn't far enough down the back of my wrist, and it constantly feels like it's slipping off. Yes I used the "southernmost" strap loop. Pad feels really tight on my leg even with the loosest strap setting too. Rebounds are F'ing ROCKETS haha!
  2. So I had posted about adjusting my EFlex 4.9's in another thread asking for thoughts. I went to Pure Hockey today and talked to a guru who knew his stuff. Basically found that it was the wrong pad for me. The Supreme M5's seemed to fit my physiology and closed my 5hole due to the nature of the "break" and how it lands. The EFlex didnt do that, and other than the Pro higher level Brians, these M5 affordable pads seemed to be the best solution, so I walked out with them. We'll see how they do, but I'm stoked to finally be fitted into a pad that fits my style. I went from Reebok XPulses to Larceny L9's to EFlex 4.9's, to now a full shift to a different brand. Other pads felt more comfy, but didn't seal up for me. This was a better seal but feel will take some getting used to due to the shape. Should be interesting!
  3. This Thread came up in a search as I'm trying to reconfigure my eflex 4s. I'm running into that shin splint pain when I play a lot it feels like the tendons are ripping off of my shin and I can barely stand up so I ditched the bungee toe tie and went back to the old school laces with about four inches of slack. So to compensate for that and the fact that the pad keeps running up and I'm now Landing South of the knee block, I'm thinking about putting the bootstrap under the arch of my foot in the large middle hole. I feel like they would allow my ankle to swivel because my toes will be looser from the front of the pad so my foot can rotate away in my narrow butterfly and the bootstrap will then prevent the pad from sliding up my leg. I feel like it will give me the best of both worlds with that combination. Haven't tried it yet but that's my goal. Thoughts? Edit/Update: I just ditched the EFlex's and went with the Supreme M5 pads. The 5hole closes better and the calf/professor strap is better. No boot strap needed now. See ya CCM.
  4. All they did was eliminate a bunch of ball scratching, cup adjusting and batting glove velcro-ing. Rare baseball win!
  5. I think the problem lies in two major areas - (As far as the ads all over the place, they need to go, although the static digital boards aren't that big of a deal to me.) As for the major 2 NHL killers.. The first one is what was already mentioned and that players aren't around as long. The NBA is having the same problem, players don't stay on teams long enough to have any kind of rivalry or fan loyalty to a team. People follow players a lot now and it's so boring when players Jump Around to different teams all the time. It's not as bad as the NBA of course, but it is kind of true that these years old rivalries don't really exist anymore. The MAIN reason in my opinion is even easier than that, and it's the obvious, you just can't watch hockey on tv, you have to subscribe to some stupid app or use someone else's login to catch a game. It's no wonder there's no viewership. There was some huge game on and I figured it would be on ABC or something, nope had to go login to my wife's ESPN Disney account just to catch the game. Completely absurd. All of these winter classics, outdoor games, or big old school rivalry games between top teams, need to be on the premier Network on ESPN or ABC. They just don't do that, ESPN would rather have a women's college basketball game on, than hockey. It's so difficult to watch the sport when you're trying to, it's almost as bad as it was when versus had it or the outdoor Network whatever it was called back then. In my opinion, Doc Emrick saved the sport. Now ESPN killed it again.
  6. Thinking about making the move to the Belfour (Potvin/Greg Harrison copy). I currently have an Eddy Custom Pro, with a rattle can paint job I did myself (i'll try to post it here below). Wondering about going wrap this time (I'll leave that for the wrap thread). How much of a difference would the Protechsport mask be in terms of weight from one of these older masks like mine? What about the impact stregnth/durability? If I'm going to get it wrapped, should I just get it ordered in matte white? Or black since there's sometimes seams in the wrap? I think I saw chin sling option, just making sure you still can. Do most people just take cage off and use plasti-dip or something to get it white? I'm not sure if it was a different manufacturer or not, but is there a long chin / short chin choice I have to make? Not sure what that would be. Does mold shipping get charged on top of the mask price?
  7. I second this post...another bump and same questions that I couldnt really find the answer to. After this long, are we seeing tears, rips, bubbles, scuffs, etc from JF? Is it the 3M thicker vinyl and not the thinner bumper sticker vinyl that JF uses? Can you clear coat them with layers of rattle can clear coat for more protection? Side question, @SaveByRichter35 is that a Belfour/Potvin Protechsport mask? I'd like to have a mask made and shipped right to JF if the durability of the wrap is good.
  8. OTNY Sports Group SPORTMASK I think Protechsport led me to them.
  9. So Maybe I emailed the wrong manufacturer...but I got a quote for that Potvin/Harrison custom mold from PS and it wasn't even in the same ballpark as the Shark. To the tune of +$1,700 more than the Shark. Did I miss something? Seems like I have my decision made I guess.
  10. So If I'm buying just one, should I go with the Shark 954, or the Potvin Mold PS? Also, what are the price differences? And can someone explain the strap choices? I want a chin sling, but I mean the back hidden/vs no hidden? I have an Eddy - Harrison replica and I just want the same thing. What do I ask for? It'd be nice to get the cage already in White if that's an option for either maker as well. Side Note: I've been told that wrapping doesn't need clear coating. I dont get that...I see wrapped cars that have damage to the wrap and they dont seem to hold up. I cant see how puck marks and skate dings wont tear or scuff or peel up edges on a wrap. What am I missing? My mask below was rattle can painted and then rattle can clear coated.
  11. wait....the what mold????!!! I didn't see anything on the site.
  12. Yeah but I don't need the long bed. At first I wanted it but glad I got the standard 5.5ft bed for maneuverability/parking around here. It holds everything I've needed so, I'm happy with it. My buddy has a long bed Tundra (I know is longer than the Ford long bed) and it's just way too much with a crew cab. Like a yacht. I basically wanted the Tahoe look but pickup capability. This worked out well.
  13. Thanks! Here it is up close. I hand painted it with rattle cans and painters tape, then clear coats (I know, amateur). I primed and then plasti-dipped the cage. I'm 99.9% sure it's an Eddy...I asked Greg Harrison and he thinks it's an Eddy which pretty much copied his look. Every time I take one off the head I cringe as I don't want to go through repainting it again and I don't think I'll ever get it as good of a copy as I did.
  14. Got the biggest wheeled CCM bag they make so I have to sling my gear in this. AND added bonus with Covid... Super Crew cab allows me room to dress in truck for outdoor rinks or arenas that only allow minimal inside dressing.
  15. Mostly organized pick up in these pictures, but this is when I had Larcenys. Switched to the Toronto EFlex4s but I don't have any pictures in those yet.
  16. First Post here....I came upon this thread after suffering what I feel was a pretty serious hip injury today in net. I wanted to post both for answers to some of the questions I've seen, and also to ask - ultimately saving this thread and revisiting it for others' follow ups. I've had some hip problems after I turned 30 from playing goal later in life, sprint training, and squats (other sports). I ended up going up to the Lahey Clinic/Hospital in Lexington, MA, and after a couple of visits and scans, it was decided that I had been suffering from impingement. I ended up getting the Femoral Acetabular Impingement (FAI) surgery. The surgeon told me it took way longer once he saw what was going on in there. They did it arthroscopically from anterior like a previous poster. It took almost 6 hours and they cleaned out some cartilage, re attached the labrum, and shaved down the bone to a better shape. That was in April of 2015. Within months, pain still didnt go away and it never really "took". I've been holding off total hip replacement as I'm 38 now and I've been told to hold off as long as I can. I've been playing a lot of goal lately and a lot of beach doubles volleyball in the summer, and my hip is just throbbing 24/7. Luckily the hospital network our insurance is in, happens to be the best hip surgeons in the area and cost will be pretty much covered - so I've been thinking about getting the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR). Using the actual UK equipment and procedure, I'm wondering what goaltenders have actually been able to continue on playing net after a BHR. I hear both sides as far as total hip - some still can play, some cant strap on pads and butterfly at all and have to play out. I want to play goal or nothing. My injury today forced me to make an immediate appointment with hip specialist, and going to weigh options. Bottom line for me - the FAI isn't going to hold up for a goaltender. If there's cartilage they're cleaning out, it's game over. A lot of these docs don't REALLY get it for our position. The hip joint (even if you do all the mobility exercises) is so tight, you'll never get cartilage back in there and grow. Also, most likely, the labrum will re-tear, and the bone shave will actually cause new spurts from bone scaring. It seems like total hip, or BHR is the only way to go, and I'm hoping I can get away with a BHR and play goal in full force. That's what I'd like to ask/add to the conversation and I wish everyone luck. Please keep this thread alive with results or stories of pro's who've been able to play high level with such invasive and structurally altering procedures.
