My boys are obviously out. Who's left aside Toronto and Edmonton in Canada?

I know, I should be on top of this as a Canadian but I only get to see highlights on YouTube and occasionally catch HNIC if lucky.

Jets and Canucks are ahead of both of teams and most likely have two of the Vezina finalists. (let alone Helly is going to win it).

Classic Canada Hockey coverage. All Leafs and McDavid

Calf pillow looks much better than what I had on Mach. That calf plate however… I think we need to thank the calf brackets!

Calf plate looks close to the pro custom or ultrasonic version and not that wierd retail Mach version.

Also looks to be more loop velcro surface area for the calf attachment than Mach, not sure if hyperlite 2 was like this too?

I'm disappointed that these came this quick.

Set looks good dude. Need more behind the scene pictures though.

  6. So in no way is this a good comparison, I can at least share a bit of my own history with the game as something that may provide some food for thought.

I grew up playing hockey but was pretty awful. I played D, was probably the weakest on my house level team, and continued with it a lot with the encouragement from my parents. It wasn't until I was 16 that I decided that I had not been having fun playing for years and that I was done with hockey.

Queue 8 years later and I had the itch to play again but this time as a goalie. This was now 13 years ago and I've been thoroughly enjoying the last 13 years far more than the first 12.

Moral of the story is that things change, and enjoyment of the game can change as we grow. Whether that means you drop the game entirely, go on hiatus for a bit, change focus for what you want out of hockey, or just keep on with what you're doing. At the end of the day, do what you think feels right and makes you happy.

This is just a game after all and there's lots to life outside of hockey.

Reading your story and OldSchoolGoalie's threads just leave me with the feeling that burn out is the primary cause of the loss of love and enthusiasm to when it comes to playing.

I know for myself 2 ice times a week is the sweet spot where I don't feel mentally fatigued about playing and still get excited to come to the rink. If I consistently play more, the game starts to feel like a chore and I can immediately recognize that my heart isn't there.

This actualization could be the beginning of you recognizing what you want more out of hockey and/or life and can be seen as a good thing.

    Keep your head up kid.

I've been reading off of GGSU or the Warrior Goalie page on FB that some were up to 8-9 weeks for just a glove. Since it's the end of the season and they only serve Euro pros not the NHL, time waits should improve until their summer vacation.

Probably the same Warrior Support group I'm on then.

    Thus me inquiring.

    Gross.

I actually have a year round shinny that goes something crazy like 48 or 49 weeks of the year, so pretty much I rarely have any weeks without hockey.

Yea, I try and pick up as much drop in's as I can during the period, but it's pretty sparse all around. Not exactly prime hockey season.

August in Vancouver without hockey sounds sweltering. You should start a beach hockey club at English Bay.

lol, that's a bit far for ball hockey.

By the time June hits I'll be 1/3 of the way into Summer season already!

(Winter season is September to April, summer season is May to August).

Sounds about right. Usually Summer is done by first week of August at the latest, leaving a terrible 3-4 week gap where I have to fill my time with activities other than hockey.

    Gross.

This has most likely been covered already but are there any new leg pads out now that don't require you to wear knee pads?

I'm a dinosaur and love my JRZ Itech's i got brand new a few years ago. Posted pics here when they came out of the box but the wear and tear is starting to mount up. I guess I could just go old school again but really like the weight reduction of todays stuff.

From the big guys? No. Wearing knee pads is practically mandatory.

I'm sure Vaughn may be able to make a custom pad with thigh wraps, same with whatever smaller guys there are still left.

    I doooonnnnnnn’t knowwww

I think he stuck his leg out knowing the chance for contact was there, however the guy shouldn’t have been skating there anyway. Prosvetov was on the goal line. I can attest to the upper body twisting like that when the lower body gets violently torqued like that. Maybe he sold it a little once he was on the ground but the way he fell looks real to me. I just think he knew what he was doing

His head and upper body were twisting pre contact. That's what makes this clear cut to me.

I'm all for siding with goalies when contact happens in the crease, but I absolutely loathe when guys flop or sell contact.

I get it, it's super competitive hockey, still hate it.

  12. There is a difference, but it's a good one.

Before I got my Ultrasonics I was testing out a set of 3S's. So similar pad as the US, but without the integrated knee block. Once I was in US the knee block was such a welcome addition.

Seal is perfect, you feel far more stable, and you feel taller. I know some people don't like the stabilislide due to some clunkiness in movements while standing (never noticed) or more specifically with post integration play.

With the integrated knee block, there is little to no flex over the pad and the thing stays put and doesn't bend over to accommodate you. I've heard that stabiliflex is a bit better in that regard, but I think this scenario is why some people don't like it.

I never found it to be an issue due to my general flexibility, but something to note if you have concrete hips.

@Hockey34 was on here a bit a go complaining that his Mach's knees were making a squeaking sound, but he's also a heavy user and has had them since release.

I've had my US for over a year and play 2-3 times a week and they're in immaculate condition.

    Hope this helps.

Is Turbo Tax as good as using an accountant? I always used a family member for my taxes - but due to family conflicts - I'm not this year.

It's just me and my one job for taxes. Really straightforward.

I ran them through turbo tax already but didn't file yet. Was looking to ensure this was my best bet.

Wife and I use Turbo Tax (Canada) for years without issues. She works in two Provinces and I work in one. We have one dependent and one rental property.

It's been pretty straight forward and easy and considering how relatively simple our taxes are, we don't see a requirement to take it to an actual accountant.

Maybe I'd be able to save a few bucks here or there with an expert going over things, but the added cost essentially makes that moot.

For you? I can't imagine why you'd need to take them in unless there's still outstanding items with the split.

That is in no way a flop. He definitely stuck out his leg to trip (or at least block the path), but that is certainly not a flop. Not sure how you managed to read that as such, frankly.

His upper body was twisting before contact was made (plus there was no upper body contact). Right leg was twisting as contact was made and not due to the left leg movement forcing it.

A lot of the movement was done in anticipation of the contact coming and not due to the actual contact.

He stuck out his leg knowing that there was a guarantee of contact in the crease and exaggerated his movements accordingly.

    AKA a flop.

Here’s my slr4 set. 33+2. Added a knee break and also went with the V9 style upper strap. Stock blocker with exception of V10 palm. 70 degree glove. Colors are Kelly green, yellow, and a mix of white quickslide, weave, and standard jenpro.

First impressions are they are chunkier than anticipated. I thought they had slimmed out the thigh and boot more, but compared to my PX3s they are quite chunky. The boot channel is flatter though. I hated the V10 strapping which they copied on the slr4s, which is why I went with the V9 style upper strap and I like it much more.

I love the blocker. It’s a big departure from the SLR3 one piece sidewall, but it feels like a true blocker but slightly improved on. The board is super stiff and I expect solid rebounds off it. The index finger setup is great with 3-sided palm material.

The glove is the same as my previous V9 XP70. It’s a solid glove. I’m a 580 truther, so I like the closure and out of the box it closes very well. The cuff is nice and thin and overall the glove feels nice and lightweight.

My biggest nitpick is the colors… the Kelly green jenpro is significantly darker than the Kelly green nylon. I was hoping for it all to be the nylon shade, but the jenpro is just kinda dark.

Chesty is nice, it’s got bulked up arms. Coming from a hyperlite it is significantly beefier and somewhat heavier, but noticeably higher quality as well.

Ive had the pants for a few weeks, I love them. Very protective but also very mobile. No complaints at all.

A note on sizing… these are the SLR4s which are 33+2 lined up next to my PX3s which are 34+2. The SLRs definitely seem like they might fit a bit bigger.

Are you sure that's not just a True blocker with a misprint on it?

my favourite Prosvetov highlight is when we booed him out of the arena in Abbotsford because he was a flopper.

Managed to rattle him to let in 5 goals and give the old toss the arms up move to the crowd as he got pulled.
