Length from ankle break. The px3 (actually 9x3 was what I had in front of me) boot looked/felt shorter. But you guys would know better, just an impression I got.

Since the NHL moved to LDS sizing, most boot lengths are pretty standard now.  I think it's 7" across the board in all sizes across all manufacturers.

I think the trend moved like this:

LDS instituted > goalies started shaving boot length and adding to thigh > league mandated minimum boot length of 7" > goalies started experimenting with boot strap and skate interactions (ie. Lundy loop)/calf setups/professor straps/FRS to have pad sit up higher

    Good day goalies,

I am currently wearing Px3 pads that has thr FRS system and I am looking to pull the pad up and I have done the following to do so:

    - Tight the top FRS strap;

    - Boot strap on the lundy loop; and

    - attahched the knee block Elastic to the mid part of the pads.

Still need to gain a little bit of thigh rise... any idea how I could do that?

    Thank you

    Dave

Saw a post a while back from Jorg, the pro rep for True.

He said most of his guys using the FRS that want the pad to sit higher go with the tighter top FRS (makes sense as the top of the calf is bigger than the bottom)

I wish it were a cooler story @MTH but - you gotta give the people what they want...

I was subbing skating out in the town next to mine. We were woefully short benched (six bodies) so I had played the whole game on D up to that point. Clock was winding down in second when some nob cranked a slapper from center ice that had no chance of going in. I didn't pick it up through the mass of bodies and it smoked me atop my glove. Didn't feel great. Sat for a minute on bench to start the third and in doing so - jammed that finger over into the next finger stall without looking at it before hopping out for a shift. Went to collect a puck behind my net and rim it around and got all of nothing on it. Skated off since I was useless and hit the after hours clinic after showering up where they told me I had a clean break just above the knuckle on my index finger (from the initial shot or a combination of that and jamming that digit over I'm not certain) so it was just kind of dangling there held on by muscle, tendons and whatnot (which was VERY obvious once I took my glove off in the locker room). Clinic just splinted it which was all of no help. 😆 Luckily I knew a dude that got me into a specialist without having to wait forever and a day. Like a couple weeks later got it all Terminator'd up with the pins that stuck out of the back of my hand. Had two big green ball things on them that reminded me of Kermit the Frog's eyes. I'll dig up a picture for you.

Adding the picture for context. Funny thing is they pinned it back to where it was straighter than it was before. Used to kind of roll toward the inside at my finger nail. Consider this the "graphic photo" warning if this stuff isn't your cup of tea...

I was scrolling through the forum on a conference call.

    Luckily I was on mute

Better question, why? If you're going for a looser fit try wearing the tune fit strap to the outer calf wrap that way you don't completely eliminate the strapping and potentially have your leg pad fall off :)

    9 hours ago, coopaloop1234 said:

I could maybe see it working if you strap behind the knee, but going down to the calf is just asking for this pad to not work. There's also the Vapour strapping set up that you can swap out and attach to the outside if you're looking for a looser fit.

IMO the Bauer pads are a little top-heavy due to the Stabilislide/Flex bracket.  You need the extra security of the elastic to combat this

Imo just get a px3. Has one of the stiffest thighs on the market but will still feel familiar to you.

Other than the thinned out thigh rise and the knee rolls, they're pretty similar aren't they? Have you tried both the px3s and the 20.2s?

Having owned both, I like the Px3s much more.  The composite thigh is really stiff but can curve and shape a little bit.

I don’t really know. I think the idea is that the push zone allows for some spring off the post, the lace allows you to lock it in, and the rest of the bungee allows for some ankle flex. But I don’t really think it probably adds that much, especially for an extra 20 bucks lol

    Ah, did not know that.

I can't see the benefit of this set up?

I don't know if this product has really been marketed well.

I asked Michel back in May when his IG preview went up, this was his response:

I'm still surprised we haven't seen anyone try bungees limited with skate lace to push off the post

I'm thinking a model with one skate lace and one elastic coming off the connector is the way to go.

Elastic side could be positioned either along the inside or outside post of the skate holder (not sure which one is better at this point) to get the benefits of the elasticity, and the skate lace side is there to have a set end point so you get some tension when toe box is on the post

For me this glove release is stupid

Offer those option with your 2 collection you already have.

they make a different graphic so if you want it with a optik or iconik line you have to pay extra fee for the custom design

Disagree, a new graphic to visually designate a different break is going to get a few extra looks if the gear is sitting in the store.

Remember, most folks buying gear don't obsess over news on TGN/GGSU/etc. and aren't necessarily up-to-date on what's coming from manufacturers
best example, there's still people who don't know the difference between 580/590/600 breaks

Also, a lot of lacing around the boot.  The most posterior lace is obviously toe tie.  Is the rest skate lacing, toe tie or something else?

Looks like it's lace + tape

Has anyone tried the Prosharp Ellipse Goalie profile?   I'm looking to upgrade to Pulse TI blades, and my regular profiler doesn't have them.   It looks like my profile options are Goalie SAM or Ellipse unless I want to buy blades one place and profile another.   I felt like SAM was kind of meh compared to my normal profile (not as easy to pivot/move in but still better than stock) so I'm curious about Ellipse.   The descriptions I'm finding suggest it's "more stable" than SAM, so I'm guessing it won't be my cup of tea, but thought I'd see if anyone had firsthand knowledge.

I don't even know what the specs are on it?  I'm guessing instead of being based on a circle, it's based on an oval?

I emailed him after hearing about him closing.  Here was the response i got.  I don't have any further details than this.  I thought I may have remembered reading that the partner was possibly whomever runs the operation for Eco or Roughneck but don't quote me on that.Screenshot_20240102-181207.thumb.png.cd907b84a8f7448da6337ede3be4cdd1.png

I was a sales rep for them for a while, so I've got some dirt.  It was a pretty sweet gig, I got to troll GGSU/other parts of the internet in my spare time to make a couple hundred extra bucks a month depending on how many units I moved.

Phil had a great product, but ran his business into the ground with late/non payments to his suppliers (gel manufacturer, collar assembly folks, water jet cutters for the mask kits...you name it).

Sean stepped in as a business partner, paid up all outstanding invoices and fronted business costs out of his own pocket (email, phones, etc) - he continued to do so until the rift. Business was good for a while and things started to turn around.  We shifted production to Passau as a ghost-manufacturer, and in return gave them access to the gel for their own lines of gear.  GoalieMonkey picked up inventory of collars and mask kits.  A padded shirt was in development, along with paddle/shaft grip tape for the stick (gel acted as a shock absorber, this latter one was my idea).

Meanwhile, Phil continued to trip over himself with late/non payments to suppliers while taking really good care of himself.  Most egregious example I can think of was a brand new Cadillac in Phil's driveway when we had some outstanding invoices to Passau, causing 6-8 month delays in customer orders.  Caused delays with production of a large inventory order going to Monkey and things spiraled pretty bad from there.

Eventually Sean shut down the website (directed it to the Maltese dog wiki), cut off Phil's cell phone, and moved on to giving Passau/Roughneck a direct line to the gel supplier, and with Eco/GoalieParts.

There were rumblings that Phil was skimming kits off on the side (which the screenshot you shared seems to corroborate)

Judging by the description it is in fact a 580 style glove which is pretty sweet

I like the graphic.  Simple lines without any spikes

    Closure looks sweet too

Its a Bauer 960 - about 2.5 years old - it looks like this inside when new (see attachment).

The piece that is coming loose is the upper cheek/eye piece.

Poron is great because it stays soft and comfortable, but seems to absorb more moisture than the padding other masks are using.
Best workaround is probably to squeeze/squeegee out the sweat after your sessions.  It's gonna be gross.

You could also look at repadding the mask with an aftermarket kit, but this would void any CSA/HECC cert.

    1 hour ago, RichMan said:

As @Chenner29 says, if it's an old mask with the thick yellow (cream) poron foam, the glue tends to breakdown over the years, hence why most new masks are using some kind of screw in system to prevent just that.

I think you're thinking of Rubatex, sir

  14. AB18 Pro - this is the new 'unicorn' imo.
1/2" plastic reinforcement in the arms, like wearing shinpads over them.
They can be ordered in 4 different fit profiles (1-2-3-4) with 3 arm lengths (-1, Reg, +1) - I may have seen a +2 arm length before but can't recall for sure.

CCM AB22 on the right. Shares much of the same design, but belly blocks, front facing shoulder floater, and heart guard have seen some changes.

CCM AB500 vs ABPro; these are from the Eflex 1 era?

Note the carbon fiber in the shoulder and heart guard in the Pro; they used weave to get the same look on the AB500.  They had a pro-only model that ended production right before the AB18Pro which had D30 where the carbon fiber was.

Is there anyway to replicate a 580 without trying on a 580? Unfortunately I do not have access to a store or a fellow goalie who has a 580 and I want to give a vapor 90 a try. I’m currently using a Mach and can catch alright with it but still don’t like the closure and I tried back on my G5 and it feels a lot better closure and break in the palm feel.

I know it’s more personal preference but is the 580 worth switching too or is it just the new hotness? Can’t decide between the vapor 90 or just going with a ln off the shelf vapor glove.

True 580 and Bauer 580 feel different.

The Goalie Crease in Toronto just got some 580 breaks in stock, don't know if you're around there or not.

Lol. Frankly it's my SO that's like, "dude, you're getting a dumptruck and I'm here for it."

I never updated, but my prognosis is that I have a 4mm tear in my left hip's labrum. My doctor doesn't want to do surgery on that, so I'm taking the next season off and going hard into PT even more in the hopes that the amount of time off will allow it to at least heal enough while the muscle around it is built to make it not re-aggravate to the level it is/was. Thus, in the meantime, I put in an order for 2024 PX3 gear while I'm off because of course I want the thing.

    There's new custom options for 2024 Px3!

Doesn't work like that in Buttmens NHL. He could care less who's in it along as he makes big money on it. Honestly I have gotten to the point I don't care about the Winter Classic anymore as the NHL has over hyped/marketed it so much. It was nice when the 1st one was done but slowly the NHL destroyed the special meaning of it. Now is just another game during the season.

I actually enjoyed the WC more when they had the leadup show on HBO ("Road to the Winter Classic"?).

They were extremely well done IMO

I also think they should rename the event.  Not all of them have been classic games in the traditional sense

To anyone who opted for a 580 glove with their set, does it feel different compared to past Lefevre gloves?

This PX3 glove is making my thumb go numb and feels really strange compared to my older gloves.

I have an XLT pro stock Martin Jones 580 and love it, but this new one really hurts my hand throughout games. Never had this issues with the 10+ variations of ccm/reebok/koho 580's I've had the last decade, but this is my first TRUE branded one.

@TheGoalNet had this issue with his set, not sure if he's still experiencing it

I have had 5 gloves from Lefevre since the CCM split and have not experienced this.
I think the older Lefevre style gloves with the tied thumb loop had a lot more give than the current setup they have with the velcro.  Have you tried loosening the thumb loop?

The break style does put a little bit more torque on the thumb than their other offerings.
