What are the differences between them? Or are they just designating AB18 as "pro only" and AB21 as "retail only" but they're the same unit.

    @Snowman30posted a pic above of the AB21.

I haven't handled it in person, but visually there are changes to the shoulder floaters, body block shape, and heart guard.

Out of these, I think the changes to the shoulder floater is generally positive (looks thicker) - a lot of AB18s I've seen have had it start to warp.

Hey guys, I’m 5’10 155 and I just got a senior small Bauer Pro chest. I’m loving everything about it except the bulkiness. I’m coming out of an intermediate ve8 that was tiny on me so I expected to feel  bulky, but I’m maybe 3-4 skates in and this just feels so awkward on me. Is this something I’ll get used to? I haven’t had a new chest since I got my ve8 in maybe 2020 so I don’t really know what the adjustment period is. Thanks.

I've found steaming C/As in the shower helps simulate usage (heat and moisture). Should help some of the foam settle a bit.

Keep your C/A in the bathroom with you, use skate lace to tie the arms flexed.

Try to hang the C/A somewhere up high so the steam rises to it.  Let your shower run hot for a couple mins before you go in.

You'll get better results in a smaller bathroom.

You know many pads were wider than the 12” limit back then since the only method to check was to challenge in game. And no one ever did that because they knew full well their own goalie was also wearing illegal equipment. So in many cases it was more than an inch wider than they are now. We’ve all heard about Richter supposedly wearing pads that were 15” wide at the boot break. Plus right before the downsizing of equipment, pads were super tall for some goalies. Garth Snow was said to be using 44” tall pads. That’s insane.

I think pictures go a long way to show how ridiculous this got.

Based on the title, I honestly thought this was going to be a thread about 1990s goalies or maybe the best 1990s sitcom. Needless to say I am disappointed.

The True rumor (Trumor?) is that it's somewhere their take on the Konekt skate, somewhere between the two.

I think it'll be very good to have two companies trying to push the technology/design in that department.

@MTH. @seagoal, & @Chenner29....100% agree. When I was fortunate to advance as a young goalie, hockey began to make more sense. The plays were cleaner, the shots were harder but cleaner, and the skill made the situations less random and chaotic. Even at this age before my injury, I would rather skate or play against college/junior/recently removed from those levels players than less trained/skilled players. Plus, it's really the only way to grow your game. You either adapt and get better or drive the Z.

  7. Both Steve McKichan and Jamie Phillips have gone on record saying this:

A significant workload specific to our position is reading what is going on in front of us is based off pattern recognition.

    IMO:
At a higher level, when skaters have good fundamentals, shots/passes/etc are easier to read.  Generally, the team defending you is also more adept at identifying and eliminating high percentage scoring opportunities.
Conversely, at a lower level - skaters with suboptimal skillsets are going to reflect in their body language - making reads difficult and/or chaotic.
ie - maybe their stickblade and eyes show they're aiming top corner, but their hands/hips/skates are in position to send it it 5-hole.

At the pro level for goalies - IMO it's not so much the physical ability, but the mental acuity to consistently prepared for all lanes to the net.

It's different for a skater playing down as a they are dictating the play and forcing the defense to react to them.

Hey guys, I’m in the middle of a tournament right now probably gonna play 2 more games before I drive home. I broke my skate eyelet out about 2 hours ago before my last game. Is this some this I have to get fixed immediately or can I stick it out until I’m home. I’m chicago right now if there’s any spots you guys know that can fix it. Thanks.

Should be a quick repair for a shoe or boot repair shop.

They'll take the old eyelet out, patch and glue down a leather piece, then pop another eyelet in through the patch

I've always used magic erasers. Usually with water but lectric shave is preferred. I've been trying to find something cheaper for awhile now and haven't had much luck

Melamine sponge is the brand-agnostic product name.  48 sponges for $12 on Amazon.

A comparable Mr Clean Magic Eraser product is $6 for 6 sponges

I am a member on a number of gear selling pages on Facebook. Almost every pair of pads I see for sale today are advertised side by side reversed with the outer rolls on the inside. I am older and don't keep up on all the latest trends but I am wondering if this is something new or trendy to be doing??? Am I simply out of touch with the new way of doing things or is this a common coincendence of multiple people not knowing the way pads properly fit? Either way the grumpy old man in me doesn't like this new trend lol.

    It's a meme

For those curious on the noises they're making:

Sounds like somebody's getting busy on a bed...

my PX3s don't creak, I'm guessing it has to do with the layers of foam separating inside the pad
