  1. COMposite vs comPOSite

NestTech looks super breathable.  I remember when the Koho 560 blocker came out with the ventilated finger stalls, it felt like I had an air conditioning unit on the inside of my blocker

I'm guessing the NestTech stuff will feel the same.  I do have some concerns about how well the impact rating will translate from a player style impact to pucks and sticks.

Am also curious why there is no D30 in the XF pro line but it is present in the X9

Steel is a big blind spot for me. As stated above, should have gotten into this earlier.

When you say harder? What's the benefit, it'll hold an edge longer?

Pretty much what @A.YOUNGoalie13 said below.

also wanted to add a few points

    1. For the profiling nerds, less sharpenings = less change over time on the profile.
    2. There might be some minuscule gains in power transfer to the ice with the harder steel
    3. IIRC there is more carbon content in the cheaper steel, it's softer and more cost effective to produce

When I had LS3Gs on my Vertexx holders, I was sharpening every 3 skates.  I switched to Tydans on that Bauer holder and was getting 8-10 before I had to sharpen

I think I'm on 30+ skates between sharpenings with my Step DLCs

The harder the steel, the better the edge retention. All of the nicer steel is harder so it lasts longer, its harder to nick, etc. LS5 black is pretty much just stainless with a black coating on it. Its really not great steel

Tydan has some pro stock in my size that they just list as "mirror finish".  Anyone have any insights to what this is?

Mirror finish has a slight reflective to it

    So.....

Why is True just remaking the G4 line?

Can't wait to see the diehard True fans defend this graphic

Nah that looks brutal no matter what brand is on it.

Agree though can’t wait to see the Lefevre-for-lifers say this is original and doesn’t look like crappy rainbow candy cane

I'm probably the closest thing to a True/Lefevre fanboy on this site and my opinion is that this graphic is inexcusable.

Worse than launch with those awful 12.1/20.1 graphics

  4. IIRC there was a sample set made for Darling as well floating around social media goalie gear groups

Also, there was an InGoal mag article that references how much work it was to get Roloson's gear right when he was a Warrior athlete, but it's since been deleted
    (https://ingoalmag.com/news/ingoal-insider-a-closer-look-at-dwayne-rolosons-pads/)

Here's the link that proves it existed at one point

I’ve never had the pleasure of trying a 580. Currently in warrior g6 and have had warrior gloves past few years.

I’ve been thinking about ordering a 580 (based on this forum i may get it in 2025) but it is scary to drop the capital without ever trying it.

can anyone share their experience when making the change good or bad? Should i just make the jump?

Big thing to consider here is the backhand and wrist straps.  If you're married to the Warrior style with the extra freedom you may not like the Lefevre design

I would absolutely love to make a custom All Out set of Axis using a flat faced EF4 graphic. I really liked how Bernier's looked

    4O7GIOFRKFAFZOS6KXY6IYRRTU.JPG

This set made its way to social media after he was done with it.  It was a flat faced EF4 with v1 FRS in the back.  So i'm pretty confident they were 20.1s with EF4 graphic

He keeps on saying, I borrow my firends gear (using his Axis set for like a month), sure you do buddy.  I think he gets the Demo sets from Source for Sports on Don Mills where I go, and have Demoed a set before, perhaps another Source for Sports in another area too.  He probably calls every second of every hour to get his hands on it, that's what he does.  He gets nothing for free, no connections to any hockey company out there.

Heck, the guy I know from PIAS gets me better deals lol

Let's correct this statement, no company wants to deal with him.

He's got a decent following and you'd think someone would have approached him at this point.

I get he's a mess league guy trying his best but he is... not very good. And the stiffest possible pads are really better off with a more flexible user. Not that other people can't use them but its definitely easier the more flexibility you have. The guy just has too many excuses. At the end of the day if a piece of gear doesn't work for you just say it isn't for you.

Just frustrates me that a guy like this thinks he knows all. As someone who has grown up in the heavily goalie coached era, everything is about technique now. Why should someone like myself or any other younger goalies take gear advice from a guy who plays old school, doing just about everything "wrong"? Again I get that everyone plays there own way and stuff, which I respect, its part of why I value input from everyone on here so much, but this guy is making one leg up pad saves and then explaining pad seal 2 minutes later. I want gear advice from someone who at least understands the purpose ofall the tech in the gear, even if they don't use it exactly the way its intended.

Sorry but if you can't tell I'm not a fan and have had this waiting inside me for some time now lol

Gotta say it's nice to hear confirmation I'm not the only one who can't stand him or think it's outrageous that he posts his God awful in game play. Major, major cringe factor. He is ABOSULTELY in it for the free gear, there's zero doubt about that. The fact that True seems to have made a custom set for him just boggles the mind.

Both of us my guy, can't stand him. Had enough run ins with him.

The fact that the dude is a mod on r/HockeyGoalies now after deciding to jump ship off here is pretty much all you need to know.  IMO he needed to have the big swingin dick in the room, and when he realized he wasn't that guy here he had to leave.

I take all reviews with a grain of salt, but lately I find myself putting less stock into what Hockeyreviews says because of how subjective and hyperbolic against whatever doesn't work for him and his game. Even on his CCM 581 Reddit post, when people give opposing opinions, he seems to get pretty defensive and talk about his sources which I mean could be anything.

    What game lol

    45 minutes ago, mr_shifty1982 said:

You're 100 percent on that, he can't take criticism, opinions, it boils him up inside and he gets SO defensive.  It's like dude, WHY are you even doing reviews? Stick to your day job because it's not on the ice, clearly by his videos.  I guess this is why he left this forum, with his crybaby post.....just can't take others opinions, or heat for that matter.  I wonder if he's actually lurking this place haha.

Right, why open yourself up to criticism if you aren't up to take the heat?  It's not a job for everyone, and I think he was in it for what he thought would be 'free gear'

Hockeyreviews is a joke, he was crying here when he left as if anyone gave 2 shits.... when this is a community of one another helping each other, it was about himself. He's bias, and that palm test was a complete joke.  Any puck that hits the sweet spot will hurt 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ that's why we have pockets. Move on from him.

The dude has a strange thigh fetish

This is a beef for me as well.   I've never been able to find anything other than anecdotal stories that Smith, Jarry and a couple of other guys have sticks that are noticeably whippy when compared to a stock or even a more typical pro return twig.    I'd love to be able to custom order something that's got even more give than my EF4 sticks.  '

Edit:  It's not the shops/sites, it's the manufacturers.  They don't seem to want to open the can of worms that offering goalie sticks to the masses in multiple flexes, so we're stuck with a "one size fits a couple" approach.

lol this would make selling used sticks so much more annoying

Bobby Beerleaguer playing Division 19 can't shoot with anything but a 67 flex

    Care to divulge?

Nothing juicy or super secret.  Just realized it’s not a Ferrari, it’s a Lambo.  Either way, putting a front license plate on a car like this is a sin IMO

Don’t really think it’s his, but reminds me of social media influencers taking staged clout pics in a Gulfstream

Sad to see them go but not surprised. Although simply beginning to work under a different name was not at all what I was expected for Ron's future. I fully expected him to be picked up by a larger brand to become their mask maker/designer.

He's gotta fund that Ferrari habit somehow

Is it just me or are they getting smaller? I have 2 authentic jerseys. One from 2001 and one now from Adidas. The Adidas one I couldn’t even get over my chest protector but the other no problem.

    (both are 52’s)

Pretty sure jerseys have gotten slimmer as materials have advanced, they are stretchier now.

You could always measure both jerseys to get the definitive answer.
