  1. Ha. Yeah. Don’t think that issue will be going away. Maybe some shot blocker type material there would at least be a sacrificial lamb.
  2. Weights thus far for those who are interested like @2padstack... Current 2X Pro Setup with Tydan steels and Bauer Speedplates: 828g Stock 9035: 1089g Graf Cowling (& fasteners): 464g 9035 boot alone: 616g CCM XSG holder: 128g With XSG1 Black Steels on the way (courtesy of @mr_shifty1982) 9035 XSG combo not looking like it will be much more weight than 2X Pro. Having worn Graf most of my life, the weight difference when transitioning to cowlingless was amazing. But now that I’ve been wearing Bauer there is something in terms of fit and flex that I’d like to get back to some. Hopefully these do the trick. 9035 Boot XSG Holder and Tydan Black steel for Vertexx Edge: 887g
  3. Updates... Graf 9035 Carbon fiber quarter panels. Silver portions near the top of the boot and outside heel is almost like a mesh: Yet to be baked... but super comfy with laminated layered foams both around the achilles and on the tongue backing.
  4. @SaveByRichter35 can you post a couple pics of the riveting done to fasten the holder onto your 7500 boots? I trust whoever does mine will do a good job... just curious as I see on the AS3 they're using a single copper rivet at the back on each side... and it looks like yours have copper at all 6 rear attachment points. Let's also keep in mind I have no idea the advantage/disadvantage to using solid copper vs. crack rivets. So for anyone who does know... feel free to tell me.
  5. Oh the irony... while yes I'm anxious to get the 9035s on the ice... I settled on them as I couldn't easily find 7500s or 1080s in my size at a reasonable price (considering this is a side project.) The heel lock does look great... and picking up the XSG holders today along with some Speedblade XSG1 Black Steel. (If I like this boot/holder combo I'd probably pick up a pair of Tydan steels as well.) 9035s are in the mail now... hopefully have them by the end of the week. I'll be getting them on the scales not only for @2padstack but for general knowledge. With Cowling, without (boot only,) and again once the new holders are on. I certainly am not concerned about the weight... more about the feel... comfort... flex etc.
  6. The UV hex print is MUCH more noticeable on darker colors. The Graphite looks awesome. Great use of the color zones. Did you get matching mitts as well?
  7. Absolutely. And while yes I expect them to be heavier than my 2X Pro... I do plan on using 3mm steel as I’ve gotten accustomed to it. Not to mention... looking to see if the shorter height helps reduce the stress on my hips. Will obviously be subjective and placebo effect may be in play as well... but definitely going to get this project moving forward.
  8. Update... Now to find a shop who can do the XSG swap for me... suggestions? (I don’t have anyone I trust locally.)
  9. They look great!! I like that you changed up the color zones in the glove and blocker away from the black outer roll. I was a bit of a slave to that. Wanted to keep a black outside edge on each piece. Was it just an aesthetic decision for you or playing with shooter’s visual? But
  10. You gotta be good at something... this topic is just proving you can't pick pads very well so might as well be punctuality.
  11. 1. You can’t slap a horn on a horse and call it a unicorn. 2. Because then I wouldn’t have 2 pairs of skates for no reason. 3. The combination you have intrigued me as a whole... not just the holder.
  12. Thanks for the feedback on the 9035. Vapor does have a decent amount of room in the toe box... but I don't recall ever having an issue w/ Garfs. Fingers crossed on that one. Also great to hear about the flexion. I think that piece at the back is throwing me off some given most skates dip down there some. Pretty cool that you threw the True holder to swap between goalie and player as well... never thought about that aspect before.
  13. Been using cowlingless for a few years now. Progression went from Graf 750s w/ Cobra Cowling to the Same Graf 750s with Bauer Vertexx Cowling... then Bauer S190... and now Bauer 2X Pro. The 2X Pro are great... but with hips & knees that are shot i can't help but wonder how much more strain I'm putting on them with all the new fangled height. Consequently I'm looking to build a hybrid similar to what @SaveByRichter35 did below. Why not just get a new custom set of AS3 or something? Well 1) That's not as fun as building a franken-skate 2) The 2X actually work fine... so this is just me experimenting and wanting to keep it less expensive. @SaveByRichter35's ceations... As I scoured the web for a pair of 7500 or DM1080 in my size I haven't found much... but I have found some 9035s. First off, can anyone provide me with a little background on the 9035? Or even first hand experience with them? I don't have gnarly feet or anything... just a size 7 with medium width. Secondly, can anyone think of a reason why the 9035 couldn't accommodate the XSG holder like the 7500 does?
  14. I had NoIcingSports blade match prior to profiling on both the Tydans and Bauer LS5G steels. Not 100% sure on their process but I'd assume they cross grind when doing the blade matching.
  15. I'd agree on the pad sitting higher as well. While I did go with my usual 33" (+1) and its playing very well... If I didn't have a boot strap it may have been another story. Also getting used to wearing the pad a little more loose than I usually would. Kind of a balancing act between loose enough to rotate and play well... but tight enough to feel connected. I did slap on some new Hybrid Armour ProLaces as well (1" gap) and that has helped too.
  16. Interesting. I've used Tydan's DLC and Bauer's LS5G w/ Carbon coating and never had an issue with sharpening. Then again... maybe my mom was right... maybe i am special.
  17. Gold on Gold on Gold!! I don't recall... was Pure Gold only available as SpeedSkin? Anxious to hear your impressions once you get them on the ice.
  18. Pads have been great. Still dialing in the QMSS. I think I need to remove the excess elastic and just lock the length down. Sorta feels like even though it's going through the tri-glides and D rings the elastic is sliding and getting loose. Really happy with them though. Glove break-in is going well, and the blocker is fantastic. Sorta funny how (for me anyway) when I start using new equipment I am mindful to simplify my game to eliminate variables and really focus on dialing in the equipment itself. As a result I play much more efficiently... move smoother and just play a nice quiet game.
  19. The man played within the rules... but at the very edge of that envelope. God bless him for being able see over those shoulder floaters and move in pads that size.
  20. Thanks!! Like I said, I certainly didn't maximize the color zones available in terms of contrast etc... but tried to add details like that to provide a subtle pop. Always feels good to have someone see those little things and appreciate them as well. Interestingly I had a guy who I hadn't played with since I got rid of my digitally printed leather 2X Pros... and he mentioned how the white actually messed with him some. I never subscribed to the whole concept... you ether stop the puck or you don't... but to hear a shooter say he had to do a double take is nice to hear. Gonna post on the graphics etc later today if I can get out from under some work.
  21. Unless you have a VERY narrow butterfly I'd stay away from +2 or more. As @mr_shifty1982 mentioned in a post in the CCM Axis Deep Dive thread by @TheGoalNet the thigh rise on Axis is actually measured 1.5" taller than the rise on the same sized P2. Add the stiffness factor (compared to your EF3s)... and you'd probably run into some interference issues. True you can have them modified... but keep in mind these are bindingless so not as easy to rip open, remove, and sew back up. When it comes to the breaks... just think of it as the more breaks the softer the pad will play as it's allowed to flex more. Single internal and no external like I have will be slightly stiffer than a single internal and single external and so on. The break options listed below are taken from from page 5 of CCM's 2020 Goalie Customizer book in which they run through the options available. Please keep in mind this is relative to CCM pads... as in Stiff for CCM may be a step down in stiffness from say Bauer's spectrum.
  22. Yeah... if you're at that FTK of 21.5" mark you'll be better served with 34" (especially if you didn't get a boot strap.) Out of curiosity did you get a chance to try on in person etc. prior to ordering? Or in the same boat as me where it was decisions based on previous CCM gear?
  23. One thing I'd like to point out is something @dstew29 mentioned in sizing. I've worn a 33" for quite some time and continued that with Axis. However, my Koho/CCM experience has largely been with softer pads. With Axis being as stiff as it is (I do have precurved single break internal, no break external) if you're between sizes per CCM's chart, I'd recommend either going down a size at retail or going custom and including a boot strap with your familiar sizing. My FTK measure is 19.5" (so lower end of 33") and I can see where if I hadn't included a boot strap I'd potentially being hitting lower on the landing when going into butterfly. Of course if you're able to get into a shop and try them on first, by all means do so. I placed my order w/o having ever seen them in person.
