Anyone here ever heard of Hespeler hockey sticks? They were hand made in a small shop in Hespeler, Ontario (since renamed Cambridge). I used to live 15 minutes away and as recently as the early 2000's would drop by the since expanded shop, shoot the breeze with some of the guys and inhale that wonderful aroma of ash wood sticks in various stages of completion.

They have a new owner (Roustan) who is moving the only North American wood hockey stick manufacturer 30 minutes down the road to Brantford, hometown of that Gretzky kid.

In this video you will see their sticks branded as True, Christian Bros, amongst others.

I had heard about the upcoming move, and then the Hockey News posted about it yesterday.  I am really happy that money is being invested to build a larger manufacturing plant.  The deal with Canadian Tire has certainly provided them the promise of stability.  I am a big fan of the SL900 goal stick.
I recall both Kirk McLean and Chris Osgood being Hespeler users.  I always hated how high up the paddle the Hespeler logo was.  Partially covered by the blocker, and then a big gap down by the blade.

Hope he is ok and glad that he's getting the help he needs. Never heard a bad word about him re drugs or alcohol. Have to think he's under enormous pressure. He's been The Man there for a long time now. Injuries and all that goes with being the The Goalie for Le Habs has to be difficult. Putting aside the black and white days of Plante et al, only 3 men have been able to handle the job for a long period of time: Dryden, Roy, and Price.

And of those 3, only Price has stuck it out.  Dryden retired early, and Roy gave up on the team saying "trade me right fucking now".

WTF is up with Broissoit?  Is that Blue on the blocker and trapper??  The grey does not match, the gold is different on the pads, stick and jersey...  just effing horrible!!!  Cool concept if they could have colour matched

@SaveByRichter35 looking good brother. What's going on with the OG steps? Looks like concrete but there's like mortar looking "joints" on the sides (?).

Can't recall if you mentioned - are you having the driveway done up too?

Original steps look like it is just "decorative" plaster or concrete over top of the sidewalls.  The whole house probably had it before the siding was put on.

  6. @SaveByRichter35 your lawn looks FANTASTIC!!  Most people would have been happy with the before pictures, but the dethatching after shot shows the true story.  Just because a lawn may be green, doesn't mean it is healthy.

chile57, like SaveByRichter says, definitely add soil into your levelling to take out the humps and bumps.  Also, once you do level it, make sure you use a roller to compact it depending on how deep the valleys are.  And to also echo what SBR says, remove the clay plugs after aerating, no point in re-introducing that material.  That can be a pain in the ass and very tedious to do, but worth the effort.

@SaveByRichter35 all good - I just figured Naz was dusting you and leveling up to lawncare grandmaster. Appreciate anything you might throw out there.

We're now officially our dads. Got to get some striped tube socks and some cutoff short jorts. Maybe grow some wicked mustaches... just don't park your white truck on the lawn.

Growing up, I was not allowed to play on the front lawn, that was the "show lawn".  I could play on one of the side lawns or the back lawn.  The funny thing, now my Dad doesn't really give a shit about his lawn, lets it go brown in the summer.

Thanks for all the tips @Naz - put these on my tab. For the initial low cut - what did you go with? I normally cut mine at 3.5". I'll make sure to slap on my freshly sharpened set of blades for this round too.

I'm in the midwest USA PS. More specifically - the mitten (AKA Michigan) where we get all the seasons... just not necessarily in the order you'd expect them to unfold... and have been know to go backwards and forwards randomly.

I did the pre-trim all the way down to 1 inch.  Make sure the weather forecast for the week after that trim is not too warm, I did mine when the max daytime temp was 18 celcius (70F).

Thanks @Naz both for chiming in and the helpful link. Seems pretty straightforward. So you didn't dethatch or aerate or anything prior to overseeding? How much time to let pass before you went over things with the lawnmower? I'm on an acre with pretty clearly defined front, side(s) and back yards so I'm thinking the best approach might be in stages (?) so its easier to manage. Great idea? Awful idea? Anybody want to do it for me? 😆 Should also throw out the fact that I'm on pretty heavy clay just below the top soil - no sand to speak of.

PS - your lawn is looking lush - niiice.

Nope, no aerating or dethatching, just scraped it lightly with a leaf rake.  Mind you, my ground/soil was already fantastic.  Because the initial cut is quite low, I cut it once the new grass was established, and cut the whole thing on a high setting on my mower, it may have juuuuuuust trimmed the new grass.  Be sure your mower blade is VERY sharp for this cut, otherwise it will just rip and tear at the new grass.
I did mine in the fall for the reasons stated in the link.  As for doing it all at once or in stages, depends on if you want to get a start on the first section in early fall, second section late fall.  Not sure where you are located, so a lot depends on your seasons, first frost etc.  If there are any turf farms in your area, you can always call them for advice.

    Thanks for the compliment :)

Peeps - what the scoop on approaching overseeding? What kind of prep, application (when?), after the fact things do I need to be considering? Do's/don'ts - whatever you got I'm all ears.

I followed this advice, to great success.  It also is pretty much exactly what the Greenskeeper at my favourite golf course told me.
