  1. Got the word from the doc. Grade 1 sprain, but a mild one. There's some very minor instability compared to the other leg, but he's not overly worried. He said another week off the ice, then i play it by ear. If I'm pain free, I'm good to go.
  2. that's what happened to me in the past. I'm hoping it's that way again. I'm seeing my doc in an hour so if the joint is still stable, it's likely it was just the scar tissue. And your description is pretty spot on.
  3. Going in after lunch today. Thanks.
  4. this post was bad luck. Went into the butterfly last night and "pop" there goes my left knee again. I'm assuming it's my MCL but scheduled an appointment just in case. It's not nearly as bad as my first one and I don't think even as bad as the second time I did it (other leg). Might even just be some scar tissue popping. We'll see. But I'm assuming I'm off for 4-6 weeks now.
  5. Bad grade 2 MCL tear. Was off the ice for about 3 months, came back and tore some scar tissue, was off another 5 weeks or so. A year later, popped the other MCL. That one healed pretty quickly. I do a lot of leg work to help protect my knees now. Torn hamstring (grade 2). that hurt like a bitch. 12 week recovery. Other than that, lots of minor injuries. it's part of the game.
  6. So, I'm 47, bald, and 5'11" on a good day (71 inches). My doctor said I was 70.5 last time. So I got a new doctor. I only need to pee once a night every few nights, but I do restrict water after 6, so that helps . . . And at least once a game I'm heard to mutter "I'm getting too old for this sh!t". Can I join?
  7. I wear my C/A up top and my pants down below. I've been thinking about changing that up, but it's been working for me so far.
  8. I loved the fact that Grit had to put in a flyer in my bag when I bought it that specifically warned against putting a keg in the bottom section of the bag. That would be a neat feature to have. A riding bag, not so much, unless that's the only way to shlep a keg in there.
  9. I've never understood the hating on wheeled bags. Who the heck cares how you get your gear in? I deadlift over 400 lbs and squat close to 450. I also choose to save my back by not dragging a bag over one shoulder and wasting energy before a game. You can have my Grit Sumo bag when you can pry it from my cold, dead hands.
  10. I'll be honest, looking at this makes me think they are focusing on overengineering things that don't really present a problem. A backplate? My freaking pants go halfway up my spine . A kevlar cup is simply unnecessary at most levels of play. And I get hit in the nads at least once or twice a warmup. Any basic goalie jock should be fine. And if you're really worried, just double cup it. I have a Nutty Buddy which is perfectly engineered that I'll sometimes wear, but even then it's overkill most of the time.
  11. I've had major issues with every piece I've bought from them, including the shock cord crap, their "bacon" straps, the "K" or "Professor" strap, and their knee blocks. Their durability is crap. Shoddily made with cheap materials.
  12. 1) I wouldn't buy any Monster product again. Between the lack of quality control, durability, responsiveness and customer service, I wouldn't waste my money. 2) I've never found jocks to be problematic in terms of size. I've had a Brown, and now am in a Bauer that's a few years old and never had a problem.
  13. I hear ya. My Coveted has dual density foam, so I'm hoping it's the best of both worlds.
  14. I've got two, a fiberglass and a full Kevlar. Michel basically said that there's no real benefit to the mixed glass and Kevlar since it doesn't save that much in terms of weight. Michel is a gentleman and a pleasure to deal with even if his response time to communication isn't necessarily the fastest. I'm a skeptic of the need for a mold. My first one I did the mold. My second one which was two years later (and was at a time that the CAD was particularly weak, so I went full kevlar for about $2.50 USD), I didn't do the mold, he said he remembered which shell I was in and could figure it out. They fit pretty much the same. I wound up getting a Coveted recently based on a few basic measurements and a few pics and the fit is actually even more dialed in than my Protechsports. Things that make you go hmm. The Coveted is my go to these days, I just like it a little better. No dis on Michel or his masks, it just fits a little better and has been a little bit better on the numerous headshots I've gotten (all during warm up, naturally). The one thing I don't like about the Protechsport is the foam. The black EVA degrades very, very quickly and was flaking off after less than a year or a year and a half of playing once or twice a week. I had to get it repadded as a result. Yes it's soft and it doesn't stiffen up like Rubatex, but it is not at all durable. At the price point, you can't beat Protechsport, particularly if you're not in a hurry!
  15. Yeah, me too. I have a pair of Browns that used to be my favorites, but no more. I got a pair of Ottawa pants (Fit 3) and they are protective but my mobility is so much better these days.
  16. I bought multiple stuff from Jeff when it was just him selling on eBay. They were decent for the price, although durability was always a problem. But when he decided to scale up and hire multiple reps, that was when all the problems started. The knee blocks took forever, always with some excuse. Then everything started to be crappy (yes, their super elastic turned into bacon, just like any other). And any complaint the reps said "user error." So I gave up. I bought Pro Laces and never looked back. I think he tweaks stuff, but it's not worth the money and durability is an issue. Buy some shock cord and do it yourself.
