  1. Anybody here on the IR with good news stories or updates? My physio told me "optimistically" that things with my MCL were progressing well, I might be ready to play in another 5 weeks (!)

I think I might just call it for the summer, and make sure I'm completely rested and ready come Fall.

I tried it. I'd use it to maybe clean car parts with it at best.

Probably not strong enough to even clean said car parts...

Mine is more pedestrian, yet I love it so:

    Cheers, matey!!!!

The beer that follows an unwanted period of sobriety is a mighty brew indeed! Enjoy the blue moon!

Mr. Mark- Hell yes we are still doing this! AND I can V-toast you, my good man!!! I am cleared to drink a little!!!! Woohoo!!!!!

My brother in goal and in beer!!!

A virtual toast to you, good-sir! I even found a beer for you (perhaps presumptuous of me, but worthy nonetheless:)

  5. Are we still doing this? Well I for one am “still doing this.” I’m probably a summer away from being able to play again, but I can at least drink beer like a boss.

Started at beer o’clock sharp, with a new Dominion City beer called Horseshoes and Hand grenades - and it’s close to perfect, but then being “close” only counts in... how does that expression go again...?

One common theme with most of these injuries, except the bruised sternum, is that they did not happen in actual games, but in pickup, stick&puck, training sessions, etc...

That's kind of interesting... any thoughts as to why that is? Maybe when there's no formal defense, the goalie is more prone to injury as they over-extend themselves, trying to make miraculous recoveries and/or saves ...(?)

this post was bad luck.  Went into the butterfly last night and "pop" there goes my left knee again.  I'm assuming it's my MCL but scheduled an appointment just in case.  It's not nearly as bad as my first one and I don't think even as bad as the second time I did it (other leg).  Might even just be some scar tissue popping.  We'll see.  But I'm assuming I'm off for 4-6 weeks now.

Hey @jeff da goalie - any update on your situation? Did you get in to see a medical professional yet?

Bauer is starting to seem more like a pro based company and anyone under is kind of dismissed

I think you're right about this. But how is this (perceived) pro focus working out I wonder?

Let me ask you this: of the 8 goalies listed in the rosters for the Finals (3 for Washington, 5 for the Knights), how many of them wear Bauer...? Not the starters. Hell, even GruBauer doesn't wear Bauer! LOL!

Damn... sorry to hear that, dude. When I originally posted, and wrote the line "misery loves company," I wasn't implying that I wanted people to replicate my own injury. I mean, I'm flattered and all, but...

Glad you're set up to see someone, and here's hoping you have a safe and speedy recovery.

Knee scoped 5 times with various things taken out and trimmed each time.  Most recent was this past April with the MicroFracturing done.
Each time they have gone in, they have seen much old damage to ligaments, but not much they can do unless I freshly injure it.  And in the words of one of my surgeons "Glenn, the back side of your kneecaps are a fucking mess"

Cracked jaw on several occasions from the old CCM Helmet and Cage, and from Cooper HM50 cage
Forehead split open needing stitches from pressure cuts of head shots 6 times.
Have been knocked out cold 10+ times that I know of, numerous Concussions as a result (I never used to duck, used to just let the puck hit me in the head)
    Partially torn hamstring.
Have broken every finger, some numerous times.
The attached photo was when the cage of my VanVelden mask collapsed from a shot.  That eye still does not open all the way, and that was back in 1994!

FFS dude... I want to give you a reaction, but it’s somewhere between thanks, confused and sad...?

tell me which one you prefer and it’s yours (assuming you can see well enough to read this ... lol!)

  12. Clearly I’m in no danger of winning “goalie injury bingo” with this crowd of battered and bruised belligerent backstoppers!

Did the hammy tear last summer playing (my last game of) soccer, and yes it does suck. Because I never saw anyone or got it fixed, I think it may have led to the current MCL left knee issue(s). Meh.

  13. I’m not sure what this thread will be exactly, but in part I just want to vent about how pissed off, depressed, and aggravated I am with my grade 1 MCL sprain/minor tear. I mean, I just started playing goalie in March, was taking weekly lessons, and already managed to get regular gigs with a few pickup games. It was starting to come together! Then that feckin “pop” happened...

Part of my self-inflicted misery therapy was to look up “MCL” and “goalie,” and several interesting threads from the old GSBB came up. Couldn’t find any here though, so would there be any interest? Any thoughts from those of you who came over...? And it doesn’t have to be MCL- frankly, as I have no medical training, you could probably make up a condition and I’d believe it was legit - lol!

    Misery loves company, right?

God, I miss AK Amber. I can't find it ANYWHERE here in Vancouver.

I bet you it’s the hipsters; they bought all of it up, to drink it ironically.

Hopefully the hipster will be gone by the time they’re old enough to have that conversation.

Yes - but in that cultural douchebag demographic power vacuum that will follow their demise, might not something worse come along...?

I am so afraid for my kids. Hopefully they grow up and decide to do something sensible - like play goalie.

“... but they get these amazing hops from the most top secret hop fields. I don’t want want to get the name out there because they brew in such small batches. The brew master shops in the same consignment shop I buy my really ugly clothes from”

(from other hipster friend in background): “Quit lying- you drink Budweiser!”

FFS - I just busted a guy so loud that my kids called down to say “daddy - what are you laughing at?”

They’re still too young and innocent for me to sit down and have the hipster talk with them though.

So, based on what you said about the Hipster scene, imagine how the interview would have gone if they had done one:

    (subtitle reads: Chad: local hipster)

”yeah, well I was on my way to buy some beard oil, when I detected a hint of simcoe hops in the air. As a wave of citra hops aromas washed over me, I realized what had happened. But, like, I don’t actually drink Philips... I only drink beer from... well, you’ve probably never heard of it...”

Right, well back on topic here. This supposed to be a thread about hating on hipsters Beer!

Friday before a long weekend here in Canada. After my phyiso this afternoon for the stupid MCL injury, I pick up the kids at school, and then it's beer o'clock again! Got some lovely Lowenbraus waiting for me... mmmmm - German lagers...

I love that commercial. In many ways I can relate. Hey we’re goalies, we KNOW defense wins championships.

Eh - in my case, I think it's truer to say that teams with me as their goalie know they ain't winning no championships. Or games.
