Great selection on the images and application! In my limited experience in applying vinyl... the smaller the piece and the fewer the curves the better. Were Boba Fett and the Storm Trooper their own individual decals applied over the stripes or were they a single merged with the striping as a single large piece?

Yes - I wondered the same thing, actually! I have a bit of extra - as well as numbers - from mine, and considered vinyl-on-vinyl, but wasn't sure how well it would work.

Although from 2 pictures, us making recommendations is a bit like searching your symptoms on WebMD.  Maybe the straps are super loose, chin cup is too tight, etc. etc.

Yeah, this here is a very good point too!

I recently took the skins off to actually trace the design of the SLR's but I liked the sock style while it lasted haha.

Yeah I was a little uninformed when I bought my gear so my mask is a tad big. Going down a size when I get my new one for painting.

I think what we are all noticing is that your mask appears to be a tad too small. There shouldn't be a gap between the cage and the back-plate, and it appears from your pictures - esp here - that there is indeed a gap:

I have a giant head (unfortunately, not filled to the brim with brains, either), so I know it might be hard to find the right size off any old clearance shelf - but the mask is not where one cheaps out.

Jokes aside, we all try to look out for each other's safety! :fistbump:

To become an elitist like myself, you require a huge inflation of your own self importance. Having full length mirrors in every room is a good way to jump start that mentality.

Nah, no little elitists on the way or any time soon. There's still a wedding to plan and then a few years after that.

So that's where I went wrong; I only have mirrors on the ceiling...

Glad to hear you're not rushed, man; little elitists will really eat into your playing and rioting time.

  5. Hi, @coopaloop1234! First question: for all the kids out there, what tips can you give them to grow up and be an elitist like you? xD

So I was reading your post, when I went "Woah, woah, woah - your kids...? Is a forfeit of your DINK status on the horizon....?"

Seattle Overcaffeinated Hipsters.  This guy would be their logo.  The color scheme would be plaid.

And as easily as it was acquired, Gritty's title as most hated mascot in the league was taken from him when the league expanded to Seattle. It was small consolation that the bearded douche from Seattle insisted he was only taking it ironically, and would drop it as soon as it became cool.

I've always wanted a Heaton ProZ / Helite III stick pretty badly... to the point where I would consider playing with an autographed Brodeur one, if I found it for the right price (I already have a few autographs of his, including one made out to me on a game-used stick). Unfortunately, all his autographed Helite III sticks go for more than I'd ever be willing to pay. Probably for the best.

I remember seeing that Guy Hebert put an unused Heaton ProZ outside of his door after the Humboldt tragedy. If it wasn't so damn tasteless, I might have messaged him on the side and asked if he had any spares he'd be willing to part with.

Anyone else have autographed gear they use?

My blocker, which I bought used off a guy through Kijiji, was signed by Robin Lehner - presumably from his Ottawa days. He didn't try to charge me extra for it, and in the pre-"Lehner-story" days, it was all but meaningless to me. I actually forgot it was there until I saw your post.

Ha, that's funny.  And all to familiar for Seattle.  Much more so in Portland,  for sure.

There's been a lot of talk around town and various polls and contests for names, as you can imagine.

The top name in many of these was Totems, which is the longtime name of a junior hockey program here.

Other top names are Sockeyes, Metropolitans, and Kraken.

    Pilots has had some traction.

I'm personally really hoping for an S name.  Minus the Mariners,  all pro sports teams here start with S.

Kraken has awesome logo and mascot potential. but they'd inevitably be called the Krack, which wouldn't be flattering.

Facetious names around town are Soy Lattes,  Grinders, Liberals, Techies, and Ships.

I'm more picky about colors than names, but I do like Sockeyes and Kraken.

Kraken sounds really cool! I like too that it would be one of the very few teams that don't end with an "s" - good for trivia!

But would a kraken be seen as infringing a bit on Detroit's traditional association with 8-tentacled sea dwellers, which dates back to the original-6 era? Maybe not....? I mean, it's not like it's Detroit's logo or anything.

    Hey all,

Been a full time goalie since 1977 when at 10yrs old my cousin gave me his Fibrosport mask that I coveted. And bang I had to wear a combo instead due to rules. Born in Toronto and now live in Austin TX. With stops in various places around the world - Helsinki, Leningrad (back when it was called that), Palo Alto, London England, Tokyo and a few others. Everywhere I've lived hockey has been the one constant - and the greatest people too. Love being a goalie and the continual learning to keep playing the game at good level. Was a member of GSBB before the house cleaning, and again afterward. Miss that place, but happy to have found this one. Figured it might be cool to show pic from 1st season as a goalie and one from US Nationals this year in Tampa. And one learning some new techniques this past summer.

Wow - thanks for sharing, @lummy31 That Vic in the last pic looks soooo heavy. Can't imagine using one of those today.

Just curious - and not meaning to pry - but what was the reason for all that travel? That's quite an impressive list of places you've been! (Though you'd assume that when born in Toronto, you're already in the center of the universe, which precludes the need to go anywhere else!)

  10. Go to crack a Liquid Art Fest, another awesome brew from Collective Arts, when I suddenly notice the can; fer feck’s sake - Daveart is designing beer can labels now?!?!?

Have you seen our comments about Daveart ?

But of course! I even thought of doing a parody post with this - a la @stackem30, but didn’t have the time (and wouldn’t have done as good a job anyway).

Having studied Art History throughout university, I was a bit irritated by the Daveart abstract expressionism write up... but then he is being paid to do art, and I’m not, so maybe knowing the history really IS unimportant... lol!

I'm also not being paid to play goalie... or drink beer... maybe I have to rethink my hobbies and passions a bit.

Now that I have the full order I thought I might post the full family photo.

Hopefully pics of me wearing it will actually happen soon, but it's uncertain because of a miniscus tear.

    Also included the design pictures.

Wife: "Hey, so I was... wait - what are you looking at on the computer? That better not be more goalie gear!!!"

    Me: "uh.... no - it's porn. yeah - porn - I swear!

@Jacob Musselman - I love this set! But my heart achenes for you thinking that you're waiting on a meniscus to heal. UGH! Does having this sweet gear around make it easier or harder to wait for the meniscus to heal?

    ?

Wishing you speedy recovery, so that this set can see some love (read: vulcanized rubber)!

I think a local goalies beer/BBQ gathering is in order for next summer :D

Interesting idea. I like it. I was actually in your neck of the woods today with the kids: Pioneer trail in gatineau park. About 5 minutes in, saw a nice fresh pile of bear droppings. Wife and I quickly decided the adventure hike was over - lol!

  14. Fall at last! That magical time of year where you get to see your team play meaningless - though worrisome - pre-season games (god, I hope Price was sucking on purpose, or ironically, or had a stunt double), and when almost any beer style works - especially Marzen! Pairs well with pork tenderloin - the marinade for which also contains beer! #BBQporn

    Hey fellow goalies,

Glad I found this place. I use to visit GSBB back in the day under a different name but that place has gone dry.

Anyways, a bit about myself. I started playing the position on ice around 12 years ago. Loved it so much that I attended a few of the Performance Adult Goalie Clinics that Dave Wells ran. Those were fun. Those sessions really improved my game. I went through a few different goalie pads before settling on my current set. I rocked KOHO 590s, Reebok pro series 2 and 3 before settling on Warrior Ritual G1 pads along with Brian's subzero catcher and blocker. I've been serious eye balling the new G4s. I love the innovations that Pete Smith and Warrior are bringing to the table.

I haven't played the past two years due to a torn meniscus and partially torn ACL. I injured my knee playing ultimate frisbee so it wasn't even doing what I loved most. I played my first game last week with the help of a custom knee brace and It felt DAMN GOOD to be back on the ice. I hope my injury days are behind me now. Looking forward to visiting here often and contributing when I can.

    Cheers!

Hey PRW! Gotta ask - you’re in The GTA, but a Habs fan? Or maybe just a Roy fan? I’m guilty on both counts myself - lol!

as long as you get my mitts out of there before you burn the place down lol.....

    Hear, hear!

In fact, as a member of the SPCE (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Equipment), I'd ask that all equipment found on site be removed prior, and set up in new homes.

    I'll send my mailing address...

Looked this one up in the spring. A few different models from the same series, and none any cheaper than the other :(

Well, at the Pro Hockey Life on Bank (near Hunt Club), I think the Warrior bag was $169. They also had the Brian’s wheel bag for $149 or something? No pad straps on it, but a decent price and pretty solid (I looked at it too when I was there)

I need a little survey (even though I know it comes down to personal preference, but different makes equals different takes) to see if you wear your 1X skates:

    A) Tight
    B) Loose
    C) A little snug

After 2 hours of hockey last night with wobbly skates, poor mobility control and really sore chewing at the ankle bones - in 30 years of playing nets I've never (aside from my beginnings) had a wonky feeling standing in my skates. Sucks!!!

I also have the X700, and tie them about as tight as I can - but then I’ve only ever been a skater before February of this year, so tight is all I know. Like @itis121 said, once in a while I don’t get them as tight as I should, and it feels a bit loose - in a shitty, distracting way. I did that last week, and told myself I need to focus more on lace tying next time! Lol!

Bought a bag  (yes, with wheels; depending on your POV, I'm either old now, or will be soon - and I can injure myself plenty good without it being bag-carrying related.) Haven't hauled gear to the rink in it yet, but I like it - and it has integrated straps for securing my pads to the top of the bag, so I can retire the yellow bungee cord I had been using on my old bag, and sent it to the HHOF xD

Given the Vaughn discussions and criticisms here lately (mostly about pads, gloves, owner rants, customer service and business models), I haven't removed the tag on this yet, and I have the receipt - so if anyone has this bag and hates it and/or has a good reason why I should return it, please let me know by Friday!

    bag.jpg

In the end, I decided to return this Vaughn bag. Did a dry run, with all gear in, and tried to strap my pads on top with the straps provided for this purpose. Even at their loosest, it was really hard to close them. Coming from a large player bag, I was sorta used to exterior pockets - which most goalie bags I looked at don't have. OK, I can adjust and use interior pouches. BUT, in the Vaughn, accessing those interior pouches is really difficult, as the flap of the D-closure hinders accessing the frickin pouch. Hard to explain/visualize, but aggravating. Only 2 grab handles too... anyway, I think I liked the look and idea of having a Vaughn bag, but it just wasn't for me as far as functionality - especially as Warrior, Bauer, and CCM options beside it were $20-30 cheaper.

Went with this one instead, packed it easily, and went to a game yesterday thinking nothing about my bag - which is a good thing!
