  1. More True sticks making their way around the league. Also some 1S CRS strapping still hanging on, with Thompson and Sorokin for sure.
  2. Sher-Wood making a comeback in the stick department?
  3. I have to say I don’t think it’s a 580 at the end of the day. I could be wrong but I think there has to be a discussion. I’m not very familiar with 18k gloves but I’m really familiar with 580s and I don’t see it. I think the “Custom” comes from whatever retailer that ordered it. I think the “stock” 18Ks were white/red, white/blue, white/black ****I corrected myself, GM did make a 580 in the 18k. I had stated that I thought it was a different Reebok model, (XLT).
  4. I know there was some interest on the 580 Bauer glove. Adam Werner flames set. https://www.hockeystickman.ca/collections/goalie-equipment/products/copy-of-bauer-supreme-one100-used-pro-stock-senior-goalie-glove
  5. We may need a new Gear Sitings thread. 12.3?
  6. As I sit and watch the Memorial Cup with both goalies playing in Mach graphics. Both goalies are actually using mis-match of older models with new graphics. 2S blocker, 2X pads, Hyperlite, Ultrasonic etc. obviously this isn’t uncommon, but I’m a little surprised teenagers are already at the point of “sticking with what works.” I’m also glad to know that I’m not alone in thinking the 2X outer leg wrap with the large Velcro option was the best version Bauer has made. That said, I have yet to see a goalie at the NHL/AhL/ CHL adopt the new Tune Fit connect strapping on the their pads. Which makes me ask the users of the pads, how is the new strapping been?
  7. edited*** confirmed story, but was long before the new chest. There was a story, and I want to say it came from InGoal, but the story highlighted Victor Fasth and his Bauer 1S chest got pulled after it was previously accepted based on how he looked on tv. Fasth confirmed to InGoal Magazine late in the season that the NHL cut the shoulder pads on his chest-and-arm unit this season, but that didn’t happen until after he was already off to an 8-0-0 start to his NHL career. To be clear, Fasth wasn’t cheating. The NHL approved his gear, as it does with every piece of goalie equipment, and neither Fasth nor the Ducks made unapproved alterations. The shoulders simply looked bigger on him than expected.
  8. I agree the photo I posted above blocker position isn’t great, it was more to highlight the space where pucks can beat a goalie. I think the photo I posted now will better highlight what I mean about getting the hands in the shooting lane.
  9. There’s a plenty of variables at play depending where the puck, the shooter, and yourself are. Is there traffic or is it clear sighted etc. But let’s say you are set, centred, and square to the puck. Your hands are projected forward and it is a clear sighted shot. The the shooter is coming toward you as opposed to dragging laterally. There’s a lot of talk of “tracking pucks all the way.” Following the puck with your whole head all the way to hands, pad, or body. As shooters get closer the ability track becomes nearly impossible, so you must focus on picking the puck up off the blade and “reading the release.” Remember there is only so much room for the puck to get past you as highlighted in the photo below. You’re not getting “beat” over the shoulder as much as you are being beaten outside your body/hands. The puck for the most part is on a trajectory where it is rising, and pucks highest point will be where it hits the back of the net. Where a lot goalies get in trouble is by over reaching and opening new holes on these 12”-14” inch shots. Or goalies do to little and default to a blocking butterfly with the hands low on the hips. If you are good position to read the release, you can start to push your hands into the shooting lanes before the puck is released. This sort of educated guessing and anticipating comes with repeated practice. Long story short keep your hands in front of your body, get them in the shooting lane and keep them there off the release.
  10. The thumb loop was cut out of the Bauer 580 Hyperlite glove I recently picked up. I was able to fix this using an old harness, dental floss, Velcro, and crazy glue. It was a fairly primitive but easy fix and the elastic loop actually feels great. I cut the harness into a thumb loop and sewed it with dental floss, crazy glued the base of the Velcro and sewn the edges closed. I placed the new thumb loop in between 2 of the gloves preexisting laces and looped it back on the velcro for the back of the hand closure.
  11. It’s a new glove for sure, he’s actually been using the Mach style glove with Hyperlite graphic since the end of April. His previous Mach glove did not have the new Bauer logo on the cuff though.
  12. This is something that got me thinking. As I compare my cuffless Mach blocker to my cuffed Ultrasonic. It got me pondering 2 questions 1. Are manufactures inventing problems to fix them? …. My opinion on this is absolutely. I’m sure others will differ. 2. Where is the equipment design pendulum swinging? This one is more challenging to think about. There seems to be more marketing with biomechanics in mind. Do these designs stop more pucks then their predecessors? Maybe they do….but?

    Bauer Professor Strap

I’m not using the cording to attach the straps. The Bauer’s come with a slot designed for a professor strap that I’m using. However this isn’t from the Mach set up either. This is from using the CRS bootstrap instead of the Ultra Sonic professor strap. I am hoping that that the pads sit a little lower with the Mach set up.

    Bauer Professor Strap

That looks great. And please give feedback after a couple skates. I’ve had a similar idea but am willing to try the Tune Fit Connect as is. I’m not 100% sold on it yet as a upgraded system. Early feedback from others that Tune fit connect was a Bauer version of the Lefebvre FRS system. We’ll see. I have yet to see a Pro/Major junior level goalie use this setup despite wearing the Mach graphic pad which worries me a little too. I probably won’t skate for a while and am willing to give a chance. Yet from carpet flys around the house there a strong chance I give up and go back to the CRS boot strap mod.

Yeah I picked mine up from Hockey Monkey Canada.

    Bauer Professor Strap

I intended to use the CRS style strap going forward. That is until I seen the Mach strapping which caught my eye. The Mach strapping can be bought separately so I thought I would be able to install it onto a pair of Ultra Sonics. For those of you in the same boat, the strapping system can be added fairly easily. I went through the professor strap loop and the lower Mach Velcro looped through the traditional Tune Fit slit.
  17. My quest for a consistent strapping for the Bauer set up goes back to the 1X. I found that wearing the Tune Fit around the top of my calf to be a near perfect strap set up. (Weirdly, the Updated Axis 2 seems to be exactly what I would be looking for). As I said….Near perfect. The elastic on the 1X and 2X that I wore would for the most part stay where desired, but every now and then slip off my calf while playing. For the Ultra Sonic I did have to add more Velcro on the outer calf wrap as it took away the option of velcroing as high as I desired. When the Professor strap started to become popular and an option on the Bauer I thought that would keep the consistent feel that. I am not sure why Bauer didn’t design something closer to what their Pro Goalies actually looked like if you seen a Pro Return set you can see the difference. I switched out the Stock Professor strap and inserted the CRS Boot strap for my first mod.
  18. Did you opt for the traditional palm? The Hyperlite version I have has the updated Bauer palm.
  19. I thought I’d continue to add to this thread. 580 Hyperlite. We’ve seen these gloves float around a while. This one’s interesting as it has the updated Hyperlite backhand. A lot of times the Pro only options don’t really see a lot of running updates. For example the tagged “Alt 590” Bauer gloves remained fairly unchanged despite updated graphics.
  20. The theory continues to gain momentum.
  21. The Canes are wearing black pants for the first time with their white uniforms in team history? (I’ll note that the one piece True skate has really re-emerged in the NHL this year after a year or 2 of guys switching to the 2 piece). Also let’s take a look at Freddy’s True One Piece skates, having the the lower part painted white. This provides more evidence in my ‘Freddy Anderson is a Carey Price fan-boy theory.” Since leaving as the face of Bauer Freddy has more or less copied every piece of Price’s wardrobe. Price in Lefebvre with leather straps and Cowling skates in 2020. Freddy switches to Lefevre with leather straps and cowlings. Price switches strapping so does Freddy. Is that a 590? Freddy is in a 590. Pro’s choice and Vaughn pants? You betcha. Price back to one piece skates? So is Freddy. Paint your cowlings white? So will I. They basically wear identical kits minus the sticks. We have a Jim Carrey Cable Guy level stalker here. “I just want to hang out, no big deal.”
  22. You can see my photos of the new cuff on the previous page.
  23. I came across this Mach prototype blocker a couple weeks back. The cuff is interesting, it doesn’t change the feel a whole lot. That said playing with the Ultrasonic I’ve never thought to myself, I wish this cuff wasn’t here.
  24. Yeah I noticed that, looks like it will be fairly close to the retail. The open cuff is interesting.
  25. I’m trying hard not to be the semantics police, but they’re not “thigh boards” but lace in “thigh guards/knee pads.” The thigh board that hangs out your pants is illegal as per NHL rules. That said increasingly rare but not extinct yet. Typically associated when Vaughn guys. Greiss, Petersen, Gibson all from this season. And I recall Carter Hutton for the Lefevre style ones over his knee pads as an added layer, but I can’t find any photos.
