Boddam gear
in Gear
1 hour ago, chile57 said:Appreciate the reply and the intel @daffy. I actually touched base via phone after the unanswered email/inquiry above and I think I have a plan of attack. Its just that - as you mentioned - lacrosse is most definitely a focus so waiting for that offseason to reping him for a couple sets of pads. Seemed like a super nice guy in what limited discussion I had.
Hey @chile57 that's great news if Boddam back doing hockey soon. I'd really to order another set from him. Nothing wrong with my Verbero/Kenesky set, just hate repping their name after all the trouble I had. Could you keep me posted on progress? Thanks!

Boddam gear
in Gear

Chest is doing great. No complaints on durability. My only issue is the odd stinger off top of shoulder. Had a chance recently to compare side by side to Passau. Passau has thicker shoulder floaters. Otherwise no complaints. Last I heard Boddam was only doing Lacrosse though.

Boddam gear
in Gear

Looks like their site is still operational (https://boddamsports.ca/hockeyhome) and I've sent off an email to the address listed with no response yet after a couple days. Appreciate any insight.
Covid hit Boddam hard. I stayed in touch with Jason but haven't talked to him in awhile. Last he told me, hockey might get back at some point but lacrosse is his focus. If I can find an email for you, I'll pass it along. He changed it at one point.

Yep, I still have them.

Anyone have experience with the McKenney XPG2 chest and arms (newest model)?

Depending on what your budget is, check out Rockstar Apparel. I don't have a team anymore and just wanted a white and black set of jerseys for filling in. I had to provide a bunch of measurements down to what type of chest protector I wear. Each jersey is made custom to you. Mine fit great, have held up well, no wizard arms and very breathable. Turn around time was good too.

@insertnamehere I think the True one piece would be close comparison to cowling height such as my old Vaughn cowlings that I have now. Lower height is easier on my hips after wrecking them and my groin early in my career.
@Puckstopper I agree thar pic isn't quite right for comparison when Bauer is most common cowlings. Even those I have a hard time with.
Ideally I'd like to try some used 1 piece Trues but with my narrow foot almost impossible to find on the used market.

I'm still a cowling guy too. Have another set ready when current are done. I just like the lower height better. I'm old school as well and like what I like.

the Konekt 2 has improvements that the original Konekt 1s don't
Good to know as well. I heard the Konekt 2 fits wider though. Not sure how true that is.

Awesome, good to know guys. Glad to hear they fit ok.

Thanks @ThatCarGuy good info. Was thinking these were way to go but maybe I'll have to consider some other options as well.

Is anyone wearing Konekts who have narrow feet? My foot would be a C width. I read that by molding them they can fit a narrower foot. Just wondering if that is actually the case. In custom Trues now but after 3 years they seem to be loosening up. Had them rebaked too. Considering my next pair of skates and Konekt on the radar if they can actually be molded to a narrow foot.

Sweet looking bag. Thanks for this review! I've been thinking about looking for a new bag that isn't as wide as my current Warrior bag.
Thanks. Brown makes a solid product. The backpack was handy but my old back didn't like the weight. Best alternative I could find. Definitely goes through doorways easily.

That's a great looking bag. Cool how it stands up like a suitcase. Is that custom name embroidery on the hand grip?
Yeah, it has a handle on on side so you can grab it and stand it up. Slapped my name on it. Figured might as well if it's last bag I'll use. You can pick custom color for the bag and handles. I'm hoping that if I do catch the wall with the bag going down the stairs, grey will be less noticeable than black.

Background: I was in search of a goalie bag that would fit through narrow doorways and down my basement stairs without marking up all the walls. I had a Passau backpack but was walking hunched over all the time and my old back couldn't take it.
Found the Brown bag online and made some inquires. 2 weeks from placing the order I had the bag. As always Brown customer service is excellent.
It took me awhile to find a way to pack it and at first found it clumsy. I'm not big on change so anything, even a bag change is an issue for me. Kept trying different ways but as you will see in the pics, settled on pads face down, skates, mask and glove in-between. Pants and chesty on top. Blocker and rest of gear in side pocket.
What I like:
Fits all my gear. My Boddam pads would be equivalent to CCM 33+2. All fits well. I like I can pack as I get undressed. The old Passau bag I had to pack it after based on how I forgot in. It does go down the stairs and through door ways easily. What I wanted it to do. Construction top notch.
What I don't like. Still clumsy to get in the SUV (BMW X3). When the bag is on the floor, that is the side that will be rubbing against you while you walk when carrying it so you need to find a dry space on the floor when you put it down.
Overall quite happy with it though and plan on it being my last goal bag. Should get me through to retirement.
I apologize for crappy video. Was after a skate and tired.

Well that sucks. Over the past year or so I've switched over to netparcel.com. they basically shop all couriers for beat rate. I have found it to be much better than using Canada Post. Usually the best rates come from UPS but do ship by Purolator once in awhile.
