Nice snag Doobie! I'm really into those colors right now...hoping for an NHL expansion team using them soon... I really enjoy my V7 chestie. Mine is just stock so the forearms are a bit small compared to that unit, which I realized quite painfully 2 weeks ago. I wasn't square to the shot and I had my wrist turned up a bit and the puck tagged me pretty good. I like your partial family photo there. I need to update mine once my new pads show up. I"m pretty sure I overhauled everything from head to toe this year. Is that right?? Yes, it is....with the exception of my bag.

Check Sidelineswap.com or goaliemonkey.com clearance section.

Ah, well. Just list your priorities in order of most to least important and go from there.

You also have the option of ordering VE8s custom without the magnetic straps. There's much misconception about the price of custom vs. stock and they are actually not any more expensive, you just have to wait. The exception to that is if you elect to alter the structural build of the pad/gloves, you're going to pay more for that. But, stock pads vs. custom pads where all you change is size and color is the same price.

Yup, agreed. There's not leather straps at all on either PVE or VE8. That alone is a weight reduction.

V7 to VE8 was a complete overhaul of geometry, straps, and angles. That'd be a pretty big jump. V7 is going to be heavier and much more traditional than a VE8. V7s are great pads, not saying they weren't. But they are going to be less modern than VE8s. Same couldn't be said going from V6 to V7, for comparison.

I have not heard of any issues with them. Quite the contrary, actually. I don't know anyone personally who has them, granted. Just a bunch of local 14-16 year olds in our junior hockey system around here and they were all loving those buckles. I can imagine a situation where a puck hits them directly and then they come undone, but the same could be said of the plastic clips on nylon straps, which happened to me quite a bit. At this point I'm more concerned about velcro durability than the magnetic clips coming undone from pucks. I'll have my pads in less than a week and can give first hand accounts then.

Are you talking about over the backhand? That's just the backhand padding unstrapped and open and as far as I know the internals are always open on the knuckles with pads over the backhand and fingers. That's very standard.

I used my new Ventus SLR pants last night and I have to say that internal padded belt is great. I have only ever used Velocity pants and as a smaller guy, 5'11 165 lbs , the SLR pants are great at maximizing the external surface area while still being snug and tight internally. This was not possible with Velocity pants. I took advantage of this and while my Velocity pants were always size Small, my SLR pants are size Medium. Thank you very much internal padded belt.

I have never used anything in the PVE line. @southpawtendy48 and @Matt35 both have some PVE stuff, discussed here on pages 16 and 17.

The VE8 cuff flares out quite a bit. Way more mobility than with previous laced cuffs.

For the blocker that's it on mine other than color and embroidery. My glove is a V6 2200 (costs extra now) with pro logos, pro palm, and a really tight leather buckle wrist strap, plus colors and embroidery. VE8 pads are in the mail now with pro logos, sliding toe bridge, sewn in thigh wraps, plus size, color, and embroidery. I don't really go too far on mods. I'm mostly super picky on colors and my pads are a half size because I have long shins.

P.s. I actually like that VE8 logo, quite a bit. It makes me think of Tetris.

Ha. I thought Pro Logos was common knowledge. Sorry mate. I'm routinely disappointing you.

Just order Pro Logos as a mod. NHL spec branding simplicity. Only 3 branding items allowed on a blocker.

I don't understand the point of this velcro here..."customized fit" I suppose.

I can't stress enough how comfortable add and firm this blocker is. The backhand pad is awesome and makes it feel tight yet pillowy. I also really like the air cushion beside the thumb. Not sure if the V7 had that but the V6 does not. The foam pad beside the index finger worried me at first. It was a bit stiff and I couldn't grab my water bottle because of it. But after one game it was fine once it and the palm loosened up a bit. This was probably the blocker I feel required the most break-in of all my various Vaughn blockers but now that it is broken-in I have no functional issues and it still feels super firm and cushy.

Yeah, new gloves are the best. The word "comfortable" doesn't even begin to describe it.
