  1. Hey gang,

In addition to various new gear meanderings, I've been thinking a lot lately about how to plan an ideal workout routine that covers all the bases I need for goalie, but also life outside of that (which does exist, I think?). Curious how all of you plan your workouts outside of games and what goals you go for.

Right now, it looks like I'll be on ice about three hours a week (two days), so I'd like to have:

    • A flexibility and recovery day (yoga/stretching/foam rolling)
    • A strength day (big lifts at the gym, lower weight but higher reps); and
    • A stamina/plyometrics kind of day

Anything you'd suggest for any of those? Definitely added a few lbs over COVID, so it would be good to drop some of those too while I'm at it. Thanks all!

For pads and gloves, I can't recall ever waiting until they actually need replacing. I probably average under a year between sets, other than my current set which I've had for 21 months, albeit many of those months were non-playing months due to closures.

Everything else I basically just hang onto until I start feeling the puck too much or a piece is falling apart too much to bother repairing.

@indykrap if you happen to be short like me and want a G4 set in about as neutral a colour as you can get, I've got a set for sale (shameless plug!).

Thought that might pop up! Too short for me unfortunately. Nice set though!

  3. Title says it all, really. When do you know your gear is due for a replacement?

I've got a spreadsheet (😎) that I track all of my gear purchases in over time, including when I buy things or do refurbs (like foam replacement in masks). My glove and blocker are holding up fine and I usually have a read on those (stingers and bad/dead rebounds), but my pads I'm not entirely sure on.

I'm currently using Warrior G3 Srs I got in October 2018, and put about 2-3x a week on consistently except for that pesky March 2020-July 2021 layoff. They feel "okay" but a bit floppy. I'm not sure if the gear craving or an overreaction to a bad game last night is more the issue, ha.

How do you tell, and how often do you replace?

Nice, love it.  You get it.

I encourage you to use those same tactics when you are in a bad mood and playing poorly.  Those are the times you can learn to take control and train yourself to stay positive and be proactive in getting yourself out of those situational slumps. Negativity spirals and builds on itself and the more we learn to jump off that train and start building ourselves up towards positivity, the better we will be and feel and play.

If you don't say or do anything when you feel bad or are playing poorly, you let it win.  Those are the times to double down and stay positive.

This is great advice for sure - a good way to snap out of it for sure. Considering I'm starting pretty fresh after a long layoff (just back on the ice a month ago) it's a good chance to build in a good habit! Thanks.

  5. When I'm in a good mood and playing well I'm pretty chatty. I tell myself "next shot, next shot" after a save or goal, just to settle down and focus on the next shot. I'll also remind myself to take a breath, give the posts a tap, or give the stick some love after a shaft save (inspired by MAF - https://streamable.com/65qah)

If I'm feeling really good/at a good group game I'll yap at the players. A good glove save will be a "oh hey, do you want this back?", if a player falls or skates into me I'll say "oh you looked pretty good out there. Thought you could skate, too", or complimenting someone's hair/stache if they get a little too cozy on a screen.

If I'm in a bad mood or playing poorly or if I'm playing really well and in the zone, I don't say anything, haha.

The catcher has an elastic inner glove that covers the fingers but extends further up the back of the hand. Its great if you like a tighter glove, but it drove me crazy so I was constantly stretching it out, the stitching gave a little and it is much better for me now. ill take photos if that helps?

Ohhhh I gotcha. That makes sense! Yeah, I noticed both that and the blocker were surprisingly snug.

@indykrap agreed that as advertised they are a vintage skin of a current model. That said - Passau seems agreeable to nearly any custom request so you can probably have them built however it might suit you. You should try messaging one of the Passau peoples on here for your answers. Last I knew @Sebx was one of them (?).

Thanks! This was helpful to know. I wasn't sure if it was a unique model or not. I actually just happened to be passing by the Passau shop yesterday (well, I made it on my way) and finally was able to see these in person. A few thoughts below:

    • Much stiffer than I expected! Though the thigh rise is pretty big so it may help someone like me close the 5 hole better. That said I may consider custom just to get a bit more flexible
    • You can really feel the quality in everything built. Really solid pieces of gear and beautiful in person and up close. Feels like they'd last a while.
    • The waffle blocker is awesome
    • 60 degree glove is interesting. Using a stock Warrior G4 now and that thing is a vacuum even as a single T. Not sure if the glove does it for me.
    • Didn't love the knee landing, but they offer a maltese upgrade there so I'd probably consider this. I did the same with my Premiers a few years ago and I worked with PAW to redo the landing in my Warriors to have a soft landing, so that's just a personal preference. Looks easy enough to pop in.

All in all pretty impressive piece of kit and would consider going with them for the next model.

  8. Hey all,

Curious if anyone has had experience with the Passau Vintage Model, which seems to be (?) a vintage skin of the current model. Had my eyes on these for a while and might pull the trigger when I'm done with my Warriors

    https://passauhockey.com/en/boutique/equipements/ensemble-complet-senior-pro-modele-vintage-en-stock/

Really digging the specs on these, but have never had the chance to see any Passau in person! Also curious if they're planning any updates for the near future as a 2022 model may convince me.

  9. Hey all,

I've noticed with the humidity and my blocker change (to a Warrior G5) my CCMs have felt extremely grippy on the shaft. I like to poke check and play the puck a lot so I'm hoping to remove that. Anyone got any easy/non destructive ways to take it off? If I have to sand it, I will, just prefer not to mess it up too much.

  10. Oh wow. That’s perfect haha.
tried doing what a few people suggested so far with some Maltese I had around, but it’s way too firm.  Going to try some different stuff out. Thanks for the tips!
