  1. What chin length did you go with here for the Potvin? I still have time to figure things out but I like the length displayed here.
  2. Just got this today...Factory MAD collar with the embroidery, Black with neon green trim. Ill probably try it this weekend but it won’t be going on during my championship game next week. Also recently purchased Brown 2000 Jock which is nice, but different fit than my Reebok. I'm in the waiting queue for Protechsport, due late this year/early next year.
  3. Indeed...it is a little late now. I believe I asked for a green one, but he didn't have the material in that color. Also, JB has expensive upcharge for colors for some reason which is quite annoying.
  4. Anyone needing a "forever bag" and willing to spend a little coin, try the John Brown bags. Super heavy duty sterling material (is thicker than the Sterling material that my old Brian's bag was made out of). I use the 2200 which is a tall and skinny bag, perfect for walking through doorways. It is large enough to hold some 33+2" pads. The handles are riveted and stitched which is a nice touch. People in skates have stepped on my bag many times and I have yet to see a cut (knocks on wood)
  5. I know most of you DGAF, but here we go: These guys are jabronis, 'nuff said. Never again! I asked nicely for a cancellation and got a response with attempted bribery for more product/more discounts if I was to keep my order active. I asked for the cancellation again and got an empty promise for reimbursement which, of course, never happened. I opened a case with Paypal. Paypal is in the original owner's name, so clearly no response there so far. Escalated it today after several days. Hopefully Paypal sees through the bullshit quickly. Meanwhile, a John Brown 2000 cup will be here tomorrow ?
  6. Oh no, not waiting. I thought I’d ask up front in an email and before the weekend is over, get PayPal involved. No waiting a month or two.
  7. Just got done sending an email to "support@monstergoalies.com" for a refund. It seems that my paypal payment originally went to Jeff Laum. Someone ought to be replying and hopefully refunding soon, or I will let paypal sort it out. Seems that I have until September to file a claim. So...what y'all think?? Go with the doublecup Vaughn or the singlecup John Brown?? ?
  8. Did you try Laura Simmers? She was the one who originally emailed about the actual kevlar cup issue. I am giving it until Friday and cancelling. Eff this.
  9. Anyone have a picture of the inside of the backplate with the hidden straps? Trying to decide how important that is. I am used to straps on the outside. On my 11th year in a Protech Kevlar...feeling like it's time to add to the family. I'm thinking the Potvin Harrison look if I can fit it, otherwise a late 90's-00's Lefebvre. Murdered out.
  10. Yeah I had that idea too, just never got around to it. My issue with that is that on mine, there isn't a whole lot of space to stuff the washer in there. It'd have to be small. I barely got the larger knot into the opening and it seems to be stuck there at the moment. I love the idea, but yeah...next pair ought to be reinforced or be double thickness. I'll probably go with Sara or possibly entertain something like what Passau sells which ought to tie right in (Brian's smart strap style). I had Sara custom make my toe bridges and as expected, they rock (Brians Zero G has a not-standard distance between the holes in the boot.
  11. Will do! Hoping it works out, it'd be nice to not have to buy another cup! I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt...the service might be annoying, but I'll keep an open mind. I do use their HAL elastic toe ties. I had one slip out, but I tied a giant knot in it and forced it back into the material. Their headbands were OK until I tried the most recent Bauer ones. My dog ended up getting ahold of a band or two and there was no need to get more. Back when I used a boot strap, I had their version of the elastic going, but I decided to ditch the boot strap and have been happier without one.
  12. Well that's not good... for me, it was an impulse buy for something that I was sort of unhappy with. I like the maltese idea with the outer shield...I'll probably try it out a time or two and if it sucks, I'll use the kevlar cup in something else and repurpose the maltese gel that is inside the outer shield into extra padding. I might be able to use some of it on my old Brown 553 that i love and have sitting by the wayside. Le sigh... ?
  13. I asked where the cup was and got something along the lines of “it’ll get there when it gets there”. They said to pick an item under 30$ for free. We shall see if that arrives too.
  14. Well...I won't be making this mistake again for any of their products. Quick, somebody say "I told you so". ? To be fair, when I ordered something from them a year or two ago, things went super smooth. I'm guessing the factory elves <either theirs or the ones making the material they use> went on strike. Meanwhile, there is a new logo and an increase in social media presence.
  15. Hmm... just got an email asking me if I want to substitute the Shock Doctor steel cup in place of the Kevlar. Seems that people are reporting that the kevlar cup is uncomfortable. I am digging through the threads, but did anyone else get the same email? What did you go with? I feel like the kevlar comfort issues could be fixed with some additional foam around the edges or something. They specifically said that it was the edges where it meets the body. Anyone with experience with either type, please chime in! My personal experiences are with the Bike which the shock doctor looks like in shape and a banana which has more of the shape that the kevlar one appears to have.
  16. Well...took the plunge. My Reebok cup has crappy elastic and doesn’t sit right. I also liked the Maltese idea. I want to start using my brown chesty in the rotash and it has a slightly short belly pad compared to my current ventus. This ought to boost the protection in the right spot if my calculations are correct. I havent had any issues with their bands in the past. I’ve heard about the delays and saw that one guys complaint video, but honestly not worried. I’ll be sure to review. I went with a grey/silver/white weave motif with the Kevlar
  17. Any tabs for lacing in the ole knee pads?
  18. They are great pants, especially since I found them NOS on eBay for like 80$ shipped. Pro quality protection, super mobile. I would not recommend them for tucking unless you can find huge ones. Minor complaints include no place to attach knee pads which I fixed myself with leather strips and skatelace at waist area. I also think the thin foam pad floating in the front is weak. The protection is really nice but this needs to be thicker and anchored down more. I also think that for being Canadian made, there were some loose ends and things inside the pant and on the front that could have been secured better. 5 mins with a lighter fixed that. I have maybe felt like one shot in a year or more of owning these. I’d like to move on to the Brian’s Optik or the two piece CCM pant someday, but it’s kinda hard to justify that when these work so well for as basic as they are. I just realized that my thumb is in a weird place on the top picture. Please excuse that lol
  19. Long time lurker in the various goalie forums...thought I’d post my gear for once. Brians Zero G pads, Lack graphic, boot strap removed, monster toe ties, remaining straps converted to clip, no air cushions or elastic on pad Passau 60* glove, no graphic with pro palm/paracord double T Passau blocker, no graphic with minimal bend *gloves were matched to the pads, black/white weave/gunmetal weave* Easton OHL return goalie pants with Warrior single-shield knee pads attached via skate lace Vaughn Ventus 98 chest, foam spacers removed RBK cup Protechsport Roy mask CCM U+ pro with step steel about to roll out today with a geeky jersey Alien theme to go with the mask paint warrior swagger pro quick pattern
  20. I use the John Brown 2200...holds pads and everything else, fits through doorway. It was around 150$ or so like 5 years ago and is still going strong. I put the washables and other items in the side zip in their own ziploc baggie.

    Glove Re-Lacing

Hello! I just wanted to say that I have started experimentation with 550, supposedly mil-spec, paracord (sourced from Lowes) in the pocket area of the glove. I currently use a Passau 60* glove with a skate lace double T pocket. I had a shot almost push its way through the middle of the spines which caused me to start thinking about relacing the glove. I decided to use another skate lace in the middle part and I changed the pattern to be what CCM is currently using in the EFlexIII. Long story short, I ended up not being happy with that because it ended up creating a rigid center skacelace piece down the very center. In a few games, I noticed that I had a popout or three from pucks that I would have expected to stay in the glove (I have always used skatelace single T gloves up until this point, so I do think it is a combination of trusting the stickiness of the skatelace a little too much and also some of the shots being point blank, reaction type saves). I got the idea to do this when I saw baseball gloves out there that had been completely relaced with paracord. I did come up with my own pattern on the spot while relacing the center spine (may be new, may be something that my sub-conscious remembered seeing on another glove). I noticed that the cord has the same, maybe slightly more give, than skatelace with the visibility of regular glove lace. I noticed that when I threw pucks into the glove after relacing the center of the double T, pucks just die 100% of the time. -------- Last night, I rolled out the newly laced glove and as I expected, anytime the puck came into the glove, it was not coming out. I also noticed that the glove felt slightly lighter (might be placebo). Playing the puck didn't seem to be any issue with the one or two that I dropped to my stick in warmup. Finally, I also noticed that the glove closed easier and I was able to pick up pucks off the ice better than before. I am at work but will share photos in the near future. The one exciting thing about paracord is that there are endless patterns and color combos which ought to be fun. I am about to order some more to outfit the entire thing. Will keep you guys posted. I can share a video of the center spine thing once I do up a new color on the glove if you guys want.
  22. Sorry, stepped away for awhile...I use the EVA foam sheets from McMaster Carr. The kind that says it is used for cushioning in helmets. I tried linking before but didn't realize that it brought people to the front of the foam section. https://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-foam-sheets/=19vozsn
