I would still take a look at something like Kijiji/SidelineSwap to see what you can get used that is still in your budget, as you might be able to upgrade a bit in quality while paying the same price. If that's not feasible/too much with shipping/travel, I would say take a shot on the s150's. But I don't think I could argue that those would be any better or worse than any other bottom-line pad. They are all basically made for once a week casual hockey. If they fall apart quickly, you can show your wife why you needed to spend a bit more in the first place
  2. Head feels fine. That was a bit of a clue that something deformed, the shot didn't rattle me at all, no ringing. Once I saw the puck mark, the vinyl pushed up and how close the bar now is to the shell at the forehead, I figured the cage probably deformed and absorbed most of the energy. (ie. did its job )
  3. I'll take a pic from another angle, my concern is that it is now almost flush against the mask shell which suggests the bars deformed. I don't think it was just the cage shifting and pushing up the vinyl wrap.
  4. Rip in peace to my Masked Marvel cage. Took a howitzer between the eyes on a screened shot, knew something had to have given because it didn't rattle at all, just a dull smack. Hopefully my Profile 950 cage fits while I get a new one ordered.

They've got the original top binding, so you'll likely end up with the overlap wear that @gsmith0062 mentioned. I've seen people patch that though, and depending on your workload it may take a while to get there.

With the sizing, keep in mind the stiffer pad will sit taller. I went from 37+1 TotalONEs with soft breaks to a Large 1S and I'll probably be sizing down to Medium 2S/34+1 Optik in the spring. I also don't use a boot strap though, so the pads also slide up even more in the bfly. Without knowing how much "softer" they are, can't comment specifically on the stiffness, but I imagine even a softer 1S will still be a pretty stiff pad.

@coopaloop1234 Same with the loop tiedown. Laces of the pants go through the loop on the front of the c/a. On the SLR it's right behind the part with the goalie logo. With this one I also dropped the front bottom pad down a bit lower so the belt of my pants kind of sits above it and the tuck holds a bit better.

@cwarnar @coopaloop1234 Just to wrap up the previous storyline, this did end up happening. Fits so well, tucks into my SLR pants like a dream

I do like how they've reinforced the material along the hem so they don't really fray against any velcro in your knee block. I've added Jenpro to the inside hem of my SLR pants because it started fraying almost immediately. If the waist seam was just an unfortunate defect, I'd say they are still solid pants overall, just not a great experience for me.

About a year and a half of twice a week beer league hockey. Not bad if you got them on clearance to try them out, but not great if you buy them new and expect to use the for a while.

The protection itself was great, felt light, didn't feel like I was wearing a barrel. I actually took out the additional inside thigh padding and never had any problems with feeling shots. If mine hadn't come apart on me I'd probably still be using them.

@thebigm I second the durability concern, I had to stitch mine back together after a little more than a year (external belt and front of Pant connection) and I don't even face a semi-pro workload. Could have been a defect though. I will say that they tend to sit lower than I would expect a goal pant to sit, so the length may not be a concern.

Would be nice if they at least offered the Dubnyk and Hank graphics as some stock options at launch, as a step towards custom

I still haven't quite gotten my Reactor 9000 dialed in (still comes untucked on the one side a little too often) and now this pops up in my inbox today. SLR on sale, plus I have a $50 gift card from xmas. Anyone gonna talk me out of it?
  16. I got the sleeves that you can buy with the HALs, and I have some pretty noticeable wear on them. Not to the point where they are falling apart, mostly it just looks like they're doing their job and protecting the cord. The sleeves are pretty thick though and I feel like that might be contributing to the wear on them. Haven't had any issues with wear at the front of the cowling, but I also don't have a cowling (1S), what skates do you use and is there any wear on the toe that might be contributing? My next purchase would be the Pro Laces Armor

Back in the fall I went up to Gold In The Net in Brockville to demo some pads (before the Vaughn rep got back to me about the SLRs), they were some custom pads an instructor had made after hip surgery, 35"+3 V7's. Didn't spend too much time on their practice/demo rink with them since they weren't really the right size for me, but got talking with one of the guys there about their gear. He mentioned the junior hockey + CCM deal. They used to supply pads to a bunch of the Junior B (pretty sure it's B) guys in the league up there until the deal with CCM was signed. Their sales obviously took a bit of a dive after that, but they still get guys coming in to get their CCM gloves repaired. Not meant to bash on CCM, I have no experience with them, but an interesting anecdote from a Vaughn retailer trying to make up some lost ground.

How tight is your knee strap? Attached at calf or knee? I'm assuming the pads are rotated outwards when you stand back up, I had the opposite problem with my 1S for a bit and figured it was because I had the knee strap too tight going down to the calf. Loosened that a bit and got them more neutral. Maybe tightening yours would help?

The segmenting on the back of the glove and the cuff all point to 2S. The pocket too, although I can't say I know what the Vapor double-t pocket looks like.

The thing with Vaughns magnets is that they don't actually hold the clips shut from what I can see. The magnets allow for super easy attaching, but it's still interlocking parts that hold the clip together.

I feel like they've been pretty adamant that they believe in the 2 piece cuff. Even the SLR as their new innovative line has the 2 piece cuff. Just the 1 line with 1 piece by default.

I picked these up and am pretty satisfied. By the amount of sweat that pours down my face after the game once I've taken my mask off, I'm pretty convinced it's doing its job. Also pretty good for like a $10-15 experiment, although it took me forever to find someone in Canada who had them and wouldn't charge like $30 for shipping.
  23. I use my 1S pad bag on my grit tower. Adjusted one strap so it was able to hook onto one of the grit hooks, then the bungie cords around the bottom corners of the bag. Before that I strung a skate lace looped at either end through the empty tabs on my TotalONEs after I removed the thigh rise straps.

2- Same here, steel gets popped out for sharpening 1- I actually did have a similar experience with my 1S when I first got them. I don't have super flexible hips, so I imagine that was also part of my problem and someone with more mobility might not have that adjustment. At first the toe of my blade was dragging on the ice in the bfly, and getting up was a bit tougher (like I had to pick my leg up higher). I chalked it up to the mix of no cowling and also the extra height overall from my One100 LEs. But it went away after just a few games, which is too quick for my physio to have materially improved my hips that much, so I think you will probably adjust soon.
  25. I remember I wore a Fit 3 Itech NV7 because it was the widest. The Bauer website looks like it confirms that's still the case, although the fits are still essentially S, M, L. Not really dialed in too much beyond that.
