  1. Mine is a fairly simple men's medium with the shell extended 1/2" at the back to accommodate my large head. Didn't need anything more specific than that, so can't comment on any other custom sizing options.
  2. This came in today, just in time for my league game tomorrow night (team is also purple and gold, but that's just a coincidence) . Masked Marvel Assault model from @Joe Messina and skinned by SkinFx. Fits like a dream. One of my favourite details is the old Thrashers alternate logo on top to fit my Golden Hawk motif, but still follows the traditional pointy graphic that's usually on top.
  3. I'm switching to Vaughn pants. After I had to do some minor surgery to repair my 1S pants, I decided to look at some newer stuff. I've also been dealing with something weird where I can never get the right side of my c/a (Bauer Reactor 9000) to stay tucked. Doesn't matter if I tighten the right side of my suspenders, or loosen the shoulder strap adjustment on the c/a to drop that side down a bit, so I've decided that my pants are just defective (cue the overseas construction reactions ). This the first time I can say I've experienced a noticeable difference in quality, so I'm going back to Canadian made. Realized that Bauer pants fit like low cut jeans or something. I could probably wear most Vaughn pants without suspenders. I'm going with the SLR, since it's designed to be able to tuck or untuck. Nobody has them in XL in Canada, so placed an order at Dukes, and now we play the waiting game. 1S should last until they come in, and I'll have a fun little project to figure out why the right side keeps coming untucked.
  4. I wish it didn't cost several times the cost of the sweat bands to ship to Canada. I still need to google around to see if I can find some on this side of the border.
  5. Baffling is the right word. I had such a good prepurchase experience with my knee blocks, the guy responding to their info email address was super helpful and responsive. But as soon as the order was in, I got zero response even on the questions I had about the tabs I wanted added to lace the blocks to my pads. Seems like Jeff just hasn't found, or doesn't want to hand any of the custom orders to some kind of partner/apprentice. Then things like a summer business trip (completely normal for him to go on as the owner) causes weeks long delays for all custom orders. Things like the sweat bands and HAL straps I would still be comfortable ordering, it seems like those kinds of things can be turned around fairly normally. But any other custom stuff I'd be looking at the others mentioned above. I'd probably even try pro laces for my next toe straps, Monster's products have all held up for me as advertised, but I'm not going to defend them to the ends of the earth

The height was definitely one thing that took me a couple ice times to get used to. I don't have super flexible hips, so picking my leg up for a straightforward get-up resulted in some toe picks on a few occasions.

Also looks like he's got maybe the 1X leg channel/calf wings, if not something even more different. Haven't seen calf wings that were a different colour than the pad back before.

Saw these on goalie monkey, have these been around for a while or are we finally seeing bigger brands adopt popular mods? (presented without opinion, no idea what build/material quality is like)

@Waldo I was definitely thinking of the Reactors, already checked the site and corrected that. @bunnyman666 is the fatblade 2 thicknesses? Like 3mm for the part that goes in the holder, and 4mm outside? Patent Pending patent pending TM TM TM?

They are both pretty stiff, both using the curv composite heavily. I don't think one is intended to be stiffer than the other. Also I just looked at the product page again and it says 3mm steel for vapor as well, not sure where I thought I read 4mm. Vapor does have a different tongue designed to be a bit more spring like. Supreme is pretty standard tongue, although I imagine the 2S will have some similar update.

Vapor has 4mm steel, Supreme is 3mm. Vapor has a larger outer wrap than stock 1S so it tends to fit better if your foot sits farther forward in a flexed position. The symmetrical boot height I think is what you mentioned already, 1S boot is asymmetrical. Then I think the Vapor boot fits a little bit wider? That part I could be wrong on, but I believe there is a different fit of some sort.
  12. From the day I ordered to the shipment notice was 11 weeks. June to late August, so no idea if that's a busy time for them or not. Should also mention that Joe extended the back of the shell by 1/2" to fit my head, so I'm not sure if a more stock size would take the same time or not.

I sent a general inquiry email through the Vaughn website, and an Ontario sales rep messaged me back asking what pad I was looking to demo. Seemed pretty legit but sounding a bit similar to @Hills description, radio silence all weekend when they were supposed to come back to the rep. We'll see if anything happens this week

At the time I wrote that, the last message I got was "should have them back on sunday" and haven't heard anything over the weekend, so I may be in the same situation. We shall see

Some kind of demo program would be great for this stuff. I'm pretty confident I'll be getting some new set to replace my mid-cycle 1S's. I've been in touch with Vaughn and looks like I'll get a demo set of SLR's to try out soon. Goalie Monkey has started a demo program, but it's only in the US right now, otherwise I'd be all over it.
  16. That's the part that always broke for me. I had a spare set that I could hotswap out the rubber loop with. The quick release velcro is a cool feature as well, although I don't personally use it, my suspenders aren't tight enough to make it that difficult to get my arms out. It hasn't ever come undone on its own either, it's a good amount of sturdy velcro.
  17. Stitched Jenpro and nylon are used to attach to the button on the pants (shorts, bloomers?) so sturdier than the rubber loops. Actual suspenders are a good size gauge of shock cord with nylon sleeves. No plastic buckles to break. Again, nothing about them necessarily outperforms other suspenders in terms of holding up your pants, but they're sturdy and would take something pretty drastic to actually break anything on them.
  18. Yeah, that padding is for comfort, not for puck stopping.
  19. I have the yellow ones. My biggest complaint is that the waist area doesn't really match the legs in terms of a supposed "compression" fit. I have to work the legs into place, which I like because they don't feel like they're going to slide around. But then the waist/crotch is so loose comparatively it seems odd. That being said, I don't notice it at all once I'm on the ice. As far as the integrated knee padding, I've always needed volleyball knee pads inside whatever knee pads I've had to feel really comfortable. 2 Gen's of Vaughn, the last gen of Bauer. It wasn't until I got these that I could go without the extra set of knee pads. I'll fully admit that seems like a pretty personal preference though. They sell the knee padding as separate sleeves too, but I'd feel more comfortable with them as part of this full unit. Don't have any strong feelings about the inner thigh padding. There is one individual segment of the knee padding that has just recently come off, other than that, still in one piece. No real issue with the length of legs, but maybe that's where the weird waist to leg size ratio comes in

@TheGoalNet Magnets, how do they work? ??
  21. I've only used the Bauer padded shirt, but I've been using the same one pretty much since it came out. I can't really speak to whether more padding is better, but it seems pretty well strategically placed and the 37.5 cooling/drying is also a plus. @Jukka Ropponen a possible suggestion would be to offer a model with neck protection and one without. Or removable sonehow? I moved away from the old bulky neck guards after junior and have been fine with just a dangler ever since, but that's not based on trying these newer low profile neck protection collars/bibs.
  22. They work as good as any suspenders I've ever used. I wouldn't say they're way better functionally than anything, but the draw for me is no real breakable parts. I'll use anything that holds my pants up and doesn't require having a spare pair to swap out clips and rubber loops.
  23. C/A: Bauer Reactor 9000 size L Pants: Bauer 1S size XL How do I wear it? Tucked in with monster shoulder harnesses over top. Pants are snug but not tight. Tie the pant laces to the front loop of the c/a but not too tight otherwise it pulls down out of place. No issues I've had since I started tying the front laces a little less tight. Enough that it keeps the chest tucked, but doesn't pull down out of place.

I'm a sucker for that magnetic clip on the RRC, such an awesome design. Every time I'm waiting for my skates to get sharpened, I'll wander over to the goal section and just play around with strapping the SLRs.
