  1. Wow, I never thought you'd need to use slide plates on ice. Now I know which pads to avoid.
  2. I don't believe I was a member. Who are the mods?
  3. Oh. Is there anyone I can contact to get approved?
  4. It gives me an error message that the content isn't available now. https://www.facebook.com/groups/18565031177 This leads to content that has not been updated since 2019. Are you using VPN?
  5. One is a dead link, the other has not been updated since 2019. The website it refers to is also a dud. It looks to be in Chinese.
  6. Is GGSU even alive? I couldn't find any working links to them in 2021. The last entry on the GGSU Facebook page was from 2014, if I'm not mistaken.
  7. Makes sense. Push from an acute angle and it should work, as long as I have the other leg on the ice and I transfer weight to the leg on the ice. I'll try that at my next stick and puck.
  8. Would a 30° angle work? AFAIK, parallel doesn't work, but 90° also doesn't work when pushing. When I tried T-pushing and shuffling, I was able to get the most distance when my skate on my push leg had about a 30° angle from the ice.
  9. My mom sewed some of the elastic together, so it's a temporary solution. Right now, I'm in the process of ordering a new jock from PAW. Hopefully it arrives soon.
  10. So, while my pad is on the ice, I turn my upper body and push off the drive leg as if I'm T-pushing?
  11. I use a 3/8 inch high inside edge hollow. Ball of the foot is a good point. I'll try to aim to have my weight shifted towards the ball of the other foot after the push. I don't quite understand what you say about attack angle. Do you mean that my angle between the ice and my drive skate should be closer to flat (my skate blade is almost parallel to the ice, or as close to it as my foot will allow) or closer to 90°?
  12. My jock is so old that it doesn't have clips. It's great that you were able to find a creative solution to extend the life of your unit.
  13. New ice goalie here. I've had a few lessons on how to play goalie, and I've had some practice in public skates and in stick time on how to move in the crease. I'm able to consistently shuffle now, I can C-cut both forwards and backwards appropriately, and I'm even starting to be able to use the T-push in game situations. What I'm having trouble with is the butterfly slide. If I have to slide to the side from a standing position, I can do it, but when I try to slide from a stationary position, I either don't move, or I end up spinning. What has helped y'all to learn the butterfly slide? Are there any exercises that help you to get a stronger push?
  14. I'll look into the Vaughn Ventus SLR Pro Carbon double cup, see what type of stuff PAW makes, and see if there are any good jocks floating around on Sideline Swap. I'll go to the shop in the next few days to ask if they can fix my jock's elastic. If not, I'll order a replacement.
  15. How do you do that? Do you use tape or something else?
  16. I have an old Vaughn Vision jock that I've been using for the past 5 years for ball hockey. I was at a stick and puck earlier today, and I noticed that the elastic crapped out. I tried tightening it in the locker room, but that didn't work. I tried reconfiguring the Velcro. It had been shaky before, but I feel that I can't keep playing with the jock as it is. How do I replace the elastic bands in the jock? The large one is in slightly better shape, but I feel that all 3 need to go. If it helps, I'll make an update with a photo. If it needs to be replaced, what is a good double cup out there?
  17. If I ran a pad company, I'd have names like hard, soft, and vintage that would be somehow explain their characteristics. The H100 would be the initial butterfly pad offering, the S100 would be the softer pad for hybrid goalies, and the V100 would be the initial vintage offering for those goalies who think old school is cool (in sizes that are legal today). There would also be blockers and trappers with graphics choices similar to the hard, soft, and vintage lines.
  18. I don't have any brand loyalty. My helmet is Itech, my stick is a Sher-Wood, all my protective stuff is Vaughn (chest protector, neck guard, jock), pads and gloves are Lefebvre (Reebok and CCM), my pants are CCM, and Nash makes my dangler. I've also seen NHLers use one company for pads, and a different one for sticks (e.g. a Bauer stick with CCM pads and gloves). If I was a minor leaguer, I'd use whatever stuff works best for me, regardless of brand, unless my league has a specific equipment deal for goalies. There probably are other companies that NHLers use specifically for masks (Coveted, Hackva, SportMask).
  19. Update: First few ice lessons have been great. My ball hockey training has been very helpful in terms of learning to make saves. I've learned shuffles, and am now trying to master them. I'm also learning T-pushes and butterfly slides now. Rollerfly sliders have helped me learn slides for ball hockey, so it's not completely alien. Still, getting a good push off my back skate will help master butterfly slides. I've also learned C-cuts, forward turns, and backwards turns, and can now challenge shooters and retreat on breakaways. Post integration is a work in progress. More things learned, more things to work on. I'll need to learn VH on skates and/or RVH to be able to effectively hug the post from the butterfly position.
  20. Remind me, 3X is Bauer's newest butterfly line? My Premier II Pros have been great so far, both on ice and in ball hockey. They send rebounds further than my old Demons did.
  21. Promask or Sportsmask are not in your budget range? I'll be looking into that later, especially if I get dinged in the melon or if my dangler breaks again.
  22. This is a shot of me playing ball hockey in Wheaton this past summer. I'm way in the background, waiting for play to come my way. If I get more shots of me playing, ball or ice, I'll upload them.
  23. Wow, that must really hurt! Hopefully you're doing better. If you think you might need to sit it out, take your time and let the league find your team substitutes. Hopefully you can come back when you're back to 100%. It sucks when you're hurt bad enough to not play. I got hit in my right thumb back in my days as a lacrosse goalie. The shot broke my thumb protection, it made my thumb bleed, and I had to do everything, including reffing, left-handed until my thumb healed.
  24. Imagine this: A member of this forum goes pro. How crazy would it be if ThatCarGuy got signed to an AHL or 2-way contract? We'd then be discussing his gear in our 2022-23 gear sightings thread, along with HoltBeast, Shesterkin, and other goalies in the Show.
  25. Khudobin will likely be with the Texas Stars now. He got put on waivers, so only Holtby and Oettinger are still in the bigs.
