  1. Wow. I've had the same issues (delusional parents and coaches) in rec soccer, and, to a lesser degree, in basketball. Some basketball coaches are jerks. I have had to give technical fouls several times this high school season because coaches were questioning calls and acting crazy. I even had a coach ejected this season. I've also had to call a few unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in HS and college football. I'm with you, @A.YOUNGoalie13. It must be tough when parents are delusional and coaches crazy. If experiences like yours are common, it's no wonder why there is a shortage of officials.
  2. That is interesting. I doubt you'd do a sanctioned game that way, but it still must have been fun to do (and entertaining to watch).
  3. Are there any users here that also referee? I know that a lot of you haven't considered it, but I'm curious to see if there are any here and get their perspective. My day job is with an accounting firm, and I also ref basketball, football, and soccer. If I didn't have a chance to become a professional official in football or basketball, I would be out there reffing hockey as well as playing in goal. What adjustments have any goalie refs had to make between goalie skating and ref skating? Are there any goalie habits that help you to referee (or line) games?
  4. Interesting. How has Lefebvre corrected the defects of his previous generations of gloves?

    Wood Pads

I get the tan/brown aesthetic to copy the look of vintage pads. I'm not sure why someone would go for a wood look. If I had custom-colored pads, I'd have stripes to match my team.

    Wood Pads

Why would you want your pads to look like wood? It's not as if anyone ever used.actual wooden pads at any time in hockey history.
  7. Interesting. I see you've chosen to go the custom route. The next time I get to a shop with a full selection of gloves. I'll try out Vaughn, Bauer, and Warrior, and see what works best. I've read reviews of the CCM Axis line, and apparently their trappers still are stiff.
  8. Interesting. Some of you are saying that assemblers don't know how to put together left blocker sets (left-hand blockers and right-hand trappers), others say that there is no difference other than the fact that left blocker sets are right blocker sets made backwards. @A.YOUNGoalie13, what is your current trapper?
  9. Interesting. I'm playing with a Bauer Reactor full right glove, and it's a work in progress. I have made some saves with it, but have not managed to catch anything yet. Maybe that's because I'm still breaking it in. Still, it's good to get ideas about equipment for the future.
  10. Update: I tried playing left blocker, and I enjoyed it. Playing the puck is much easier with a stick that has a right-handed curve, and once I got used to having the stick in my left hand, there was not much of a difference between making saves with a left blocker setup as there was with my former right blocker setup. I am now officially a silly-side, left blocker (full right) goalie.
  11. I know this sounds like a stupid question, but is there a manufacturer that stands out in terms of making quality full right gloves? I'm asking, because most goalies are regular, and thus the demo units are also regular, even when a full right goalie like Trav4oilers is trying them out. Based on the historical issues with CCM/Lefebvre gloves closing, I would assume that the same holds for full right CCM/Lefebvre gloves. I really like the Warrior full right blocker I have now, so are Warrior trappers good?
  12. I use CCM Premier II Pros. I wonder if that has an impact.
  13. I have them sharpened to 3/8", and try to have them sharpened 2x a month.
  14. Update: I've gotten the hang of sliding from my feet. What should I do to practice sliding when I'm already down? I try to push when I'm down, but sometimes my edge slips. Is there anything y'all do to combat that?
  15. Update: I've had a few lessons as a full right goalie, and played a ball hockey pickup game yesterday. It definitely is easier to play dump-ins full right than it was regular. My body is still adjusting to carrying the stick in the other hand, but overall I haven't found it more difficult to make saves full right than it was regular. I'll have to see how I do in actual gameplay playing full right.
  16. I already use Rollerfly. It's a great product, especially when playing on wood or Sport Court floors. It has problems with more rubbery-type floors, and on concrete, it gets worn easily if I don't use the metal balls. Is there a product that can slide on rubbery floors, yet can be removed with ease to play ice hockey?
  17. Maybe have one outdoor game a year, because it seems that the combination of outdoor games and the retro/fake retro gear for these games is becoming a played-out gimmick. There's a reason why goalies normally don't use retro gear anymore: It's heavy, bulky, and not suitable for modern styles of play.
  18. That's an interesting technique. Not one that goalie coaches recommend, but fun to watch for sure.
  19. Congratulations Pekka! You will be missed. I loved seeing Pekka's active hands saves.
  20. I found a pair of full right Christian EV 3300s for $132 US, direct from the manufacturers. They're a little on the heavy side, but seem like a good stick so far.
  21. I have a Reebok XLT 24 Sr glove that I had been using since 2015. Only very recently (after ~4 years of use) have I been able to catch properly with it, and that is even after breaking it in using the Keeps33 method and playing with it for several years in ball hockey. I got a new full right Bauer Reactor glove recently, and it appears to be easier to open and close, even though it has not been broken in. That's strange.
  22. Do True gloves have the same stiffness issues that plagued Reebok and CCM gloves in the Lefebvre days? I'm curious, because the pads look nice and seem to perform well.
  23. #1 isn't the only one. If #30, #29, and some of the other goalie numbers are gone, it will be interesting to see what's left. Best of wishes to Tuukka in his post-hockey life.
  24. Makes sense, because otherwise no goalie numbers would be available.
  25. Thanks for the advice. I've found sticks on Sideline Swap and on Facebook, and I'm hoping I get paid soon so I can get 2. I thought I'd be a reverse Matt Dalton, because he used full right sticks facing backwards to make saves, and flipped them forwards to shoot, but it seems that was a silly idea, even sillier than playing full right as a righty.
