  1. I'll join in the praises of Warrior gloves. Just picked up this 6.1 beauty from SLS. It came with the Kova wrist strap, I've yet to play with it but I'll share my thoughts once I've had some time with it. It sits pretty low on my wrist as you can see, might have to adjust that. Initial thoughts, I'm very happy with it. Solid protection yet snappy closure even for my small man hands. Nice natural closing feel, and very finger driven to lower thumb. Really looking forward to trying it out next week. It's the biggest pocket I've ever seen. It has the stock 75 degree liner. I'm toying with ordering a 90 to see if it's all that different and I'll just return it if not. Thanks to all you who gave advice on gloves!
  2. definitely a swing and a miss with the blue haha
  3. This was a really helpful thread. I'm also on that 7" base of palm to middle finger tip, guess that's not uncommon. I was just chatting with John Stuart, new co-owner/runner of Simmons Hockey and he said they don't even offer at intermediate palm in their gloves, they just don't see it as necessary since it won't change the location of your hand or the break. This has made more more just concerned about quality strapping instead. Also btw, Simmons offers a full custom True 580 clone option now for $480 usd. Not bad.
  4. Hey all! Quick question, I'm curious about people's experiences with Don Simmons gear especially lately. I searched the board and apparently they closed in 19' and reopened in 21'. The website looks like it hasn't been updated much but the facebook page is showing some great new custom gear they've been working on: https://www.facebook.com/SimmonsHockey Any thoughts on their gloves specifically? They've apparently become proficient at cloning true gloves and even have a 580 break option.
  5. Haha all good points and I appreciate the help. I was able to try a true 590 (I know not the 580, but it gave me a feel for True gloves), and the deal breaker for me is that it seems more for average to large hand sized guys. Couldn't comfortably get my hand far enough into the glove to have any decent closing power. I've never seen anything in the forums and customizers, but does True have an intermediate palm option? I've only ever seen that in Bauer, Warrior, and Brians.
  6. You're totally right on the feel thing. I'm just one of those unlucky guys that lives about 8+ hours from any decent gear shop and largely has had to order gear online without getting to try it on. Throw in even 90 degree gloves are rare and almost never in stock and my situation gets trickier. I just enjoy everybody's' thoughts here and I think it's helped me narrow things down. Thanks all! When I do take the plunge and custom order either a Vapor 90, or whatever the new brian's 90 break will be (doubt I can wait that long), I'll be sure to do a review.
  7. The hazardous looks like a great design but I see what you've all been saying about the graphic. Uck.
  8. That's a good point I'll keep in mind. If I had larger hands I'd probably be all for the more curve, but at this point even bit of torque in closure power/ease is what I'm after. I'm wondering in comparison to the older glove you mention, if more modern gloves do a better job with just having larger deeper pockets? Maybe slightly better funneling? I haven't heard any pop out issues from Vapor 90 users yet. Any users care to comment?
  9. Here's what the Brian's rep said about a 90 degree break glove: "We currently are not offering a break of this nature. However there is a sample being shown to our dealers which will ideally be available for our 2024 sales year." Key word there is ideally. He also said it would not launch with the Iconik line, so no early Christmas for me. It's hopeful, and probably inevitable, but it still might take a while.
  10. Good to know. Great looking pads too! I gotta get my hands on one of those "shit" pillows, that is the next big thing in pad innovation.
  11. Any reason you went for the short and narrow? (sounds biblical haha) How do you like that compared to other pads?
  12. For what it's worth, I've been in a similar position but had mostly different results. I was using huge, heavy, Graf skates from about 2012 I would guess, and then moved to a pair of bauer's entry level GSX skates. For me the transition was easy and just took a single stick time. I did notice that the freshly sharpened blades seem to cut in and catch the ice more, and I did tumble a few times quite dramatically haha, but I got adjusted and it hasn't happened since. You could try a less sharp profile? Another factor is I went down a full size with the bauer so maybe that limited the impact somehow. I use 7/16. Overall I hope you'll love using modern skates like I do . I am so much faster, agile, way better slides. Only downside is my toes get cold and wet towards the end of a game now, where there was no chance of that with the grafs.
  13. Oh dang, well please let us know how you like that 90 when you get it. Bummer about Bauer messing it up. I can't imagine the let down after waiting weeks, just to have to send it back again.
  14. Where might I find said spec sheet? or is that still secret?
  15. I talked to a Brian's rep a couple months back and he said they were hoping to release a 90 degree option next year. 90 degree break, boa strapping that never comes loose, intermediate palm, and maybe a pancake style glove? I'm in love.
  16. Good luck with the injury! I missed a full season two years back due to an injury and surgery recovery. Not fun but necessary to do it well for longevity of playing the game. I had no issues last season, so hopefully all goes smoothly for you also.
  17. Does this mean the finger's part of the palm is flatter and the glove closes flat? Rather than the curved palm "grabbing a can" closure? Thanks!
  18. Thank you so much for saying that! That has been my theory for a long time now but no one has really confirmed it until now. What glove do you use? Have you tried the Vapor 90? I have been reading that the newer Warrior gloves are very easy to shut and still protective. The G 6.1 is now on top of my list of another glove to try, since it apparently is leaning in the direction of a 90 degree glove. Haha no not a lefebvre junkie. Had a fair amount of Reebok gear back in the day, even wore some P2's 33+2, but moved on from all of it. I'm mostly warrior and vaughn, with a little crush developing on Bauer lately.
  19. Okay it's properly updated and accurate now. Wow can't believe I missed that. Anyone want to chime in on my pancake glove physics? I'm still liking the idea of a 90 degree break, but not a curved palm. Would the Bauer Vapor 90 fit the bill for me?
  20. Dang, there is no limit to my lack of knowledge on these gloves. Curse of being a small town goalie in a low hockey area. I'm also realizing the closure is more of the typical thumb to finger tips. It's crazy what your expectations can do to warp reality. I'll be editing extensively to salvage the review.
  21. It's also lacking a certain tag that most Lefevre gloves have... Uh oh, I think we have a time of death on my 580 fantasy. I'll edit it
  22. Yeah that might explain a lot, if there is a consensus on that, then I'll rename this review is a 590 review/ 580 degree fantasy, haha. To be fair, the listing said 580 closure, not 580 closure, not break. But it also said that about the other 590 closure gloves. I should have called and asked. But no worries, I wanted to feel it for myself.
