Well, based off my last performance, I hear my team is looking for a goalie.

    We didn't want you anyways.

You mean: we could have been playing against each other all this time.

Sorry buddy. Amazing that they can just reject you. It seems like anyone can live in the US. Guess we're not the meanies that we're portrayed to be.

I had a job offer in Vancouver in the early 2000s.  Applied to emigrate and got rejected as "unskilled labor" which I guess was pretty accurate at the time.  I could get in now, for sure, but at the time they weren't wrong.  I was salty though.

My application to live in Sweden has been rejected meaning I have to return to the US within 3 weeks. I had no backup plan for this season.

Shit, I'm sorry buddy. Did they say why?  Can you appeal?

It honestly looked like he stepped in front of him trying to block him and then didn’t even try to get up and get in front of the net

I agree.  He was trying to look like a victim of interference, which I guess would wash out the "incidental" word doing a lot of work in the NHL Rule about contact with goalies out of the net.

So not a save actually the opposite but had to get it on here, Demko getting taken out behind the net then getting scored on. But let’s be real here who cares about that it’s more a why is he wearing all white gear in the nhl that is so lame.

  6. I notice this 100%.   So much of what we do as goalies is timing, anticipation, expectations, and assessing risks.  This is all worse at lower levels so I think it's to be expected that we would have a more difficult time playing down vs. up.

I think the most difficult thing about playing up is just speed of shots, passes, and skating. I look at that as just a calibration challenge and I can usually get somewhat comfortable by the 2nd period of a higher game.

This all plays into my idea that the hockey in front of us is a filter: sometimes the filter is good, sometimes the filter is bad.  Our job as goalies is to handle anything that gets through the filter, good or bad. When the filter is good, our job is a easier.  When it's bad, our job is more difficult.

I think this is going to translate to even pros.  Do I think an NHL goalie is going to struggle in div 1 beer league the same way a div 4 beer league goalie will struggle in div 7? No.  But I still think an NHL goalie would feel the difference in timing, anticipation, expectations, and assessing risks.

I played a Div 6d game last night. I play in 4b.  I just tell myself to "let the puck come to me, don't overplay it."  I play more passive and more of a "protect the goal line" mentality at that level than I normally do.  Plus...I get the come out and play the puck a LOT :)

I start next game. I am nervous.

That's good,  it means you care and want to do well.

Just play your game. Focus on what you can control and stay focused.   You have good momentum,  just ride it.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey guys, I’m in the middle of a tournament right now probably gonna play 2 more games before I drive home. I broke my skate eyelet out about 2 hours ago before my last game. Is this some this I have to get fixed immediately or can I stick it out until I’m home. I’m chicago right now if there’s any spots you guys know that can fix it. Thanks.

    Top eyelet, I assume?

If it's lower than the top one just relace your skate to skip it and you won't notice it at all.

The top one is more iffy.   You'll likely feel it if you stop lacing below it but honestly that might be better than new skates during a tournament.  You can play without it but you'll likely notice more flexibility in your ankle.

    Sorry man.

NIce! Thanks for posting those, that's a nice start to a collection.  I really love that Kachina Coyotes puck.  I've always loved that logo, I used to draw it all the time as a kid.  I don't have one of those in my collection but hope to one day.  As of now I just have the howling head logo.

That is truly a unique after game beverage. I can't say I'd be eager to join you on that one.

Haha, totally fair.  This was a night where I hung out in the locker room with the boys and had a few beers.  Got home and I was all beer'd out.  Ended up on Youtube and TGN once I got home and had a thirst for something and it was eiter sake, wine, or gin.  Sake won.

Yeah he said on Instagram he is getting some reps in for a Legends game after recovering from surgeries.

Same here. In the past few years I've gone down 2 sizes in leg pads and a size smaller in chest protectors.

That said I'll probably go up to a 32+2 or 32+2.5 and just get a softer pad. 32+1.5 is a little too short in the thigh rise and the warrior stock pad stiffness is too stiff for my taste. Going to switch to medium/medium stiffness.

In addition to sizing up my leg pads I've been thinking about going back to warrior pants since they're as wide as ccm but have the side cutout for less interference

Yeah, for me sizing down and stiffer was so good for me with leg pads.  Pretty sure I dropped a size in my chestie too like 2 or 3 ago.  My pants have gone up a size but the internal belt on SLR pants was a huge bonus for me as a smaller guy.  Definitely went from 26 to 25 with my Warrior sticks which was a huge improvement as well.

The thing about adding stiffness or rigidity to custom Vaughn gear is that it adds so much weight and that made playing in it dreadful.

Vaughn to Bauer Mach was exactly the evolution I needed....minus the glove wrist strap drama.  Ugh.  Custom Shadow here I come.
