    California Hockey Productions

Found randomly at the rink by my bestie and captain of my team. I really dig the rink in the CA state outline.  Pretty good one here. (and I'm drinking sake after my game listening to 90s rock).

Also, one of my good hockey buddies texted me and said he has a friend at the Kraken game in Tampa Bay.  He knows I still need TB so he got me this one, which is on its way to me soon.  Pretty sweet.  My second puck from a Kraken away game, first one being Dallas Stars.

So now that TB is confirmed only 4 NHL teams left.  Getting closer.

  2. Crazy situation in my game tonight against our arch rivals for the past 3 seasons.  Doing my thing for warmies and they have a sub goalie.  All good.  Captains turn in the rosters and the refs are called over.  They call the other captain over, turns out their sub goalie is on the USA Hockey suspension list and ineligible to play.  So my captain offers some situations: 1) Forfeit, send the refs and scorekeeper to the bar, we scrimmage with the goalie 2) Play without a goalie 3) go to other 2 rinks and try to snag a goalie. They chose 3, but failed.  So we played against an empty net and a PP the whole game.

Kinda weird.  This has not happened for me before in a real game with refs.  So of course I'm thinking: I have to try and score.

I get one shot off in the 2nd period that got intercepted easily at center ice. Another really good opportunity very late in the 3rd where I get the puck in the circle to my right. Both teams (haha) are yelling SHOOT! and my own D takes the puck from me and then everyone Boos him (haha) and he dishes it back to me but now I have 2 guys forechecking like beasts at me so I get a good backhand chip pass off to my left and get the puck out.  Sigh.

Final score 7-3.  3 legit goals on me including 2 6-on-4 PP goals.  My guys took it easy I guess.  7 total shots with 100% success rate :)

    Oh beer league.

There's been a lot of duds, but I've also been pretty impressed with a lot of the junior and college kids printed set ups.

There's also the simple designs that look well too. I'm glad it's here.

Though this is an image of a ccm printed blocker lol.

I guess all printers run out of ink

CCM's printing is such a Wish™ version of Bauer's Digiprint.

Agreed it's worse, but it's like worse of two bads.

I've personally never got onboard with pads printed on pads.  Just not for me.

There was some Minnesota goalie who did it with green/yellow and it looked OK as far as bad can go.

    Seattle Monarchs

Monarchs are a franchise organization in our hockey league: they have a GM who manages several teams in several divisions with the same jersey, colors, logo, etc. Is that common in other leagues in other places?  We have at least 5 of those here in Kraken Hockey League.

Anyway, I played for a Monarchs team in a tournament back in the summer and I asked the captain if he had a puck I could have.  He didn't at the time.  Fast forward to tonight, I was subbing for my buddy's team at the Kraken facility and the captain I asked for a puck back in the summer was walking in for his game after ours.  We leave the ice and go to our room and he tracks me down and gives me a puck.  "Ask and you shall receive several months later.  By the way, what are you doing this Saturday night?  My Monarchs team needs a goalie for a random Saturday game?"

The puck has seen a lot of hockey but I love it.  Pretty awesome that he kept me in his mind several months in the making.

And we lost 3-0 tonight and I have not yet accepted the invite for Saturday, haha.  Pending partner approval, of course.

11 new pucks to add the collection tomorrow at work :)

Noticed a lot of guys this season compared to last, favouring the matte finish on the masks. Not a fan personally. But this one? Definitely different, having that wool fibre effect is a nice touch and I like how Markstrom colours his straps. Nice unique touch.

I love the blending on the cage too.  And if you look on the inside of the cage it is not painted,  just left uniformly blank so it doesn't affect his visual field.  You can see it in front of his left eye.

The artist had to tape off each bar only half the diameter.   Pretty neat touch.

Right out of the gates, I'm a say it: Can they take a friggin decision on Cayden Primeau already?! Keep him or let him go for a good trade. I'm tired of the headlines, "Possible trade...", "Rumours concerning...", blah blah blah.

Will Allen be the one traded? Again a bunch of non-stop rumours. If he can keep his numbers up, him and Montembeault can be a great tandem and will no doubt push each other to become better as the season develops.

Aside from my little rant. I think we're off to a ok start. Could be better but it's still early. Suzuki seems to have taken a backseat to let Caufield shine. Monahan is offering some good support on the offence. Pierre Harvey-Pinard is earning his stripes with good efforts. Newhook is kinda in and out. Xhekaj is clearly taking names and laying down the law but in today's game, I don't know how long he'll be able to keep this up before he gets benched or worse, hurt to a point he can't contribute at anything anymore. Anderson is acting more like a support on the attack and I'm hoping he'll find the net more often as he did the past seasons. Armia is back down and is doing awesome in Laval. We need him back in Montreal as I feel he is a good player for the team and he deserves to keep his spot with the HABS.

And now Gallagher...my man, our iron horse, our Trojan. It's apparent that the game, the abuse, the injuries are taking a large toll on his physic and maybe mental state as well. His game is not the same. He did score twice the past few games and has a couple assists, but his real job and presence in front of the net seems to have changed some and I hope that he can either find his comfort zone soon or even be allowed by St-Louis to take a break now and then to recuperate from all the beatings he gets in front of the net. There's been comments thrown around about him getting traded and even suggestions that he should retire. If for any reason, he does choose to hang them up, I hope it's with the HABS and that he gets all the honourable mentions he deserves for his work and sacrifice given for his team. I'm with you Galli 😎

When I was in Montreal,  Caufield was the jersey I saw the most just around town and at the game.  He was also who amazed me the most in warmups and in the game.  That kid's talent and skill is unreal.

I am. I'm not all that good but my mentor told me to keep in mind that every goal against teaches to play better. He also told me to shake off goals. Shake it off by Taylor Swift is the song in my head after a goal lol

Haha, nice. That's very good advice.

We may be responsible for every shot on goal but we certainly can not save them all.

I think my least favorite thing on these pants was how the internal belt tightened. The double pull with the overlapping clips was...certainly a choice that felt chunky.

Never had that problem myself, I crank them down as tight as they go and I'm set.

My name is Ethan and I am a beginning goalie. I just started with some used gear, but I hope to have a True set like Marc Andre Fleury had in Chicago after I save up. I have a lot to learn and this looks like the place to do it.

Welcome aboard.  You have definitely joined the right place, there is no question you could ask without good answers to follow.

Hope you are enjoying goalie life so far.

  11. I use Vaughn SLR2 Pro Carbon.  I have 2 pairs, one black and one red.  Zero problems or complaints and the internal padded belt is wonderful for me because 5'10 170 lbs.  Lifelong Vaughn Velocity user prior to these.

  12. Very cool story about a new upcoming puck for the collection.

On the flight home from Montreal I sat next to a gentleman in his 60s from Newfoundland.  Turns out he's a hockey player who plays 3 nights a week.  So we talked hockey the whole trip home and I got to show him my puck collection and all my new ones I got in Canada.  So he tells me that he and his wife are going to Seattle, catching a cruise ship, and are going to end up in Tampa Bay where they are going to attend some Lightning games .  He confirmed with my that Tampa is still on my NHL list of needed pucks and he, very warmly and politely, offered to send me a Lightning puck for my collection.  He told me "and when you get you'll know it is from the Newfoundland fella on the airplane."

Might have gotten a bit of a sideways look; that’s more “France” French than Quebecois joual… 😉

Quebec is to the French language as Philly is to the English language?

Definitely my favorite hockey word in Quebecois French that I learned was Overtime = Prolongation "pro-lon-gaysheeon".  I got a good kick out of that.

I do that as well, actually. But I don't tape it, I just rely on the tension of the lace.

Looks like Swayman does, too.  It's been so long since I've used laces I don't even remember how I did mine.  Definitely not tape for me.

  15. Funny story.  My last night in Montreal I went out to dinner in Little Italy which is very close to Arena Martin Brodeur where he grew up playing.   So, I had to go.

Ended up talking to the zamboni driver,  super nice guy.  So we chatted quite a while.  I learned the term "garage league" and there happened to be a 40+ game on the ice. I tell him I'm from Seattle and he starts going on and on about Marshawn Lynch and some play the Seahawks botched on the goal line in a Super Bowl?? I have no idea.

League had a photographer out at one of our games this season. This rink being inside a mall. Massive  sweatbox. My mismatched gear sorta bothers me, but at the same I don't care. 1696806146437.jpg.c2ebeaf9e4453eb8517ea7d0d2f32ef4.jpg1696806122091.jpg.45c49c6595b275b056ee5522c088668a.jpg1696806177844.jpg.11986848468bfa86041a0c95fba2c734.jpg
