One of my buddies is getting his helmet painted this week and he's sharing all the teaser pics with me. His first custom piece of gear. I'm being reminded of how giddy we get with that stuff. Pretty neat.
He's gonna be the 4th goalie that I'm aware of in our league with a painted helmet from Jason Livery.

Vaughn SLR 4
in Gear
3 hours ago, IpaddyTECH said:Vaughn's SLR4's are certainly catching up to everybody else nicely, but I can't think of anything Vaughn has innovated. Maybe the carbon? But other brands have already had their versions of "extra stiff" foam for a while now.
I'm most curious to see how they handle the relationship of stiffness and weight because for a long time, the only way to get Vaughn pads to be stiff was to end up with crazy heavy pads. My V9's were spec'd to be Extra Stiff, I just kinda said "F it, why not." And those things are so damn heavy. Funny though, my reaction was "alright that's it, jumping to Bauer" and not "alright, that's it, jumping to SLR."

Yeah, talk about a pending car crash...
I also love that NYR announcer in the 2nd half of the audio. He sounds like an old grandpa and I love it.

That's rad. What happens if you pay the $295 and you aren't selected?
Full refund, they say.

We got an interesting email yesterday from our hockey league:
as players in the Kraken League, we were invited to register for an opportunity to play in 1 of 2 games on the Winter Classic rink at T-mobile Park. Registration gets you in a pool from which they will randomly draw 15 skaters and 1 goalie per team for each game. We have to pay $295 up front and if selected, we get a scrimmage with our team at the practice rink, our game at T-mobile, use of the MLB Visitors locker rooms, and an "event jersey."
Intriguing but $$ oof $$. I have to decide today. Thinking I'm out since I'm already going to/paying for an outdoor tournament in January and I am trying to save up for new gear in 2024.

Shame.
Doesn't count as real gear if you can't see it on TV.

Woah, would that be your first time ever testing Vaughn? Unprecedented.
I would watch. I mean I always watch your videos, but that would be a treat to see you test Vaughn.

Never had chance to watch him on practice or at game live. It is a long long time when I have been at live NHL game. I live in Europe .
Ah, ok. I thought you lived in the Anaheim area. There are 3 goalies on here that I know of who live around there.

Ducks need few more years to become competitive again and make the playoffs. Given Gibson´s age I don´t think he will make any big success here before his career is over.
As a Ducks fan, I watch him from his first days with Ducks (and still can´t forget 2014 playoffs, game 7 against Kings ). Sometimes his moves looks like from beer league goalie, but it obviously works .
11 hours ago, keeperton said:I feel like I see him use half-butterflies more than most of the league. He really does a lot of stuff to simply stop the puck that are more difficult to teach, definitely doesn't look like a robo-goalie that can sometimes occur from someone who is overcoached.
I can't find it now but years ago on here I said Gibson reminded me of a beer league goalie. I do find it really interesting to watch him play and I think he's one of the most fun goalies to watch play.
@mik do you ever get to watch him practice?
I love this picture so much. It's now my wallpaper on my computer at work. He looks like a pro wrestler taking a move, haha. He absolutely crushed his gear color ways with those white jerseys. Definitely in the running for Best Dressed Goalie in my book.

Dude hasn't asked for a trade. I wouldn't be surprised if he's fine making his 6.4 million a year to live almost anonymously in Anaheim.

Hell yeah. $78k/game ain't too bad while living in weather most people think of as perfect.
Cool pic of Demko, picked as an early Vezina winner on NHL.com

The more and more I look at it, I really think the Kraken design team did a great job in creating an identity.
For sure. Even their local marketing and presentations in the arena are all on point, very watery and nautical. The arena is very heavily covered in LED screens and it feels to me like an sci-fi aquarium. It's really neat.

Faaaawk! Those are beauts! I’m inclined to say I prefer the one on the right, but the one on the left beckons, too. Well done, my friend!
Thanks pal.
Not to sound like a homer, I do resent this abomination after all
, but the Vegas Winter Classic theme is just such a miss for me. I think Seattle crushed it.

This thread was my best invention ever. The anti-derail thread, cuz you can't derail a derailed train.

I have no idea how I got in on this as well but I'll take it. I try to keep my gear up to date and I guess that helps a good bit and playing a decently high level of hockey it's a very good test of just how well products hold up over time. My konekts and sticks are good examples...
You play real hockey, a.k.a. not-for-beer.
Don't sell yourself short. We love you.

Well, now the QB has planted the seed of doubt… are they laughing WITH me, or AT me…?
meh - scoring points either way.
Also a good time to point out that the leaders in points, posts, and possibly ratio are CANADIAN. Just saying…
Joking aside, it’s people like you, @seagoal, @MTH, @Chenner29, @ThatCarGuy and a host of others that make this site work. @SaveByRichter35 too, back in the day. Miss that guy, hope he’s enjoying life.
Oh man, so many others. That's always a risky move, calling out the good posters. Too many to name.
But yeah, this site is great. I'm very grateful for it. We have a good mix of older vets and youngin' vets on here with a good influx of new regulars, too.
