I think about that all the time too

i have seen Butt Endz popping up everywhere on IG and Gretzky endorsed Taci-Mac grips (or something like that) in the early 90s 

Cheap 90s pads had nylon straps with quick release buckles. It gave the tech a bad name and no one promoted it as weight savings. Brian's remarkets the concept with elastic and it's a hit...

What pad were you using before that had that wing flapping?

On the majority of newer pads that entire section is firm and doesn't really push outward anymore, I believe it started with the Warrior G2s but it is on all the pads I have looked at recently.
