Broken thumb

Hey guys

wondering if any of you had experience with broken thumb ? I had a cast for 4 week. They remove it last week and give me some exercise to do but it’s still impossible to put my glove on

I start to go crazy to not go at the rink.

if you had this experience after how much time you was able to go back ?

I didn't break a thumb but the index finger on my glove hand. Snapped it clean off - needed two pin setting my finger at like 90 degrees from my palm (🤏). It was most certainly a long time to get back to "comfortable" for me, weeks with the pins, maybe months of PT and then even after that I wore a Palmgard padded catcher's glove inside my mitt for quite a while. Just be vigilant with the PT and you'll get there.

I had thumb issues playing baseball in college. I caught, so it was tough to not use your damaged thumb. I used a slide on cast device to help me get through it. I couldn't stop playing as I'd lose my spot.

Squeeze drills helped with flexibility. I'm sure you're doing them already. Stress balls then graduate up to flat tennis balls. From there you can use new ones or get those grip strength things. I know the rock climbers use them. They have a spot for every finger.

Or, just rehab playing video games. It's "rehab", not goofing off.

I wish it were a cooler story @MTH but - you gotta give the people what they want...

I was subbing skating out in the town next to mine. We were woefully short benched (six bodies) so I had played the whole game on D up to that point. Clock was winding down in second when some nob cranked a slapper from center ice that had no chance of going in. I didn't pick it up through the mass of bodies and it smoked me atop my glove. Didn't feel great. Sat for a minute on bench to start the third and in doing so - jammed that finger over into the next finger stall without looking at it before hopping out for a shift. Went to collect a puck behind my net and rim it around and got all of nothing on it. Skated off since I was useless and hit the after hours clinic after showering up where they told me I had a clean break just above the knuckle on my index finger (from the initial shot or a combination of that and jamming that digit over I'm not certain) so it was just kind of dangling there held on by muscle, tendons and whatnot (which was VERY obvious once I took my glove off in the locker room). Clinic just splinted it which was all of no help. 😆 Luckily I knew a dude that got me into a specialist without having to wait forever and a day. Like a couple weeks later got it all Terminator'd up with the pins that stuck out of the back of my hand. Had two big green ball things on them that reminded me of Kermit the Frog's eyes. I'll dig up a picture for you.

Adding the picture for context. Funny thing is they pinned it back to where it was straighter than it was before. Used to kind of roll toward the inside at my finger nail. Consider this the "graphic photo" warning if this stuff isn't your cup of tea...

I was scrolling through the forum on a conference call.

Luckily I was on mute
