Does anyone have experience with both or either of these two masks?

I'm looking to upgrade and I want to get the best mask available. They're both about the same price.

How would you rate the protection offered by your mask (if you own one of them)?

Yes, I have used both. I personally like the Bauer better.

    Here's the main differences IMO:

Sportmask will have less padding inside

Your face will sit closer to the cage in Sportmask

Sportmask will have better air flow (less padding)

Bauer has more foam in the liner

Your face will sit a bit further back from the cage

The one "flaw" of the current Bauers is that they abosrb most sweat than other competitors

Also, based on NHL testing, the Bauer finishes higher than the Sportmask. Most of the new higher end Sportmasks have the same innegra shell construction and foam liner, so assume this to be pretty accurate:

Small world. Thanks for bringing your glove in, my co-workers and I were psyched to try it on. I keep that CCM 580 for customers to try on if they're going custom CCM/True since we don't carry any 580s on the racks. I've converted a couple people already away from 590/600 already. It's probably even more valuable of a sales tool now that Bauer is offering it.

After your visit, I spoke to someone with Bauer about 580s. I was sworn to secrecy (but since they are releasing the Vapor 90), I think I can say that Bauer had been talking about bringing the 580 to retail for a while. From my discussions, it sounded like it wasn't going to be coming out for 2023, but maybe the representative I was speaking to didn't want to tell me, or the decision hadn't been made yet. This was back in December 2022. I was just as surprised as anyone when I saw Vapor 90 was a custom option.

I asked Bauer every year about it. They seemed pretty opposed to the idea as recently as last spring, shocked to see it... dying to try it

At the end of the day a baseball glove is still a baseball glove is all I’m saying.

This is basically my point? Maybe not in the context you are saying, but the glove is behind the blocker and pads in terms of innovation over the last decade. It's still just a baseball glove

Someone is due to come up with the next great revolution. I don't know what it is, but without CCM trying something like 591 we might not get there... The analogy is breaking a few eggs to get the recipe correct?

And yes, I love technology. I don't gear evolves without it. However, my PX3 set blew my mind. I expected something that felt like an EFlex and it's an amazing product. I always give credit where it's due.

At least at my store, I don't see a lot of CCM gloves selling lately. The single most common things I hear, both from parents of goalies (and adult goalies too) is that CCM gloves are hard to close. "We've baked it, we ran hot water through it - nothing!"

Customers are BIG on off-the-shelf feel. That, price and "need" are the big barriers to a sale. Colors - not as important as they are to us on this board. They try them on, get a feel for it, try to close it. The decision is made at that point. Instantly. They won't want to spend time heating the glove up to activate the memory foam or whatever. They'll move on what's next to it on a shelf - often a Bauer or Warrior - both of which are fairly easy to close out of the box. CCM really has to return to the drawing board or review their manufacturing and nail this aspect of their catchers down, IMO.

Exactly. If sales are down, this is is why... it's not demko in an EF4 skinned as EF6.

Having used a Bauer 580 for the past couple of months. I will say that it’s …ok.

I can catch with it for sure, it breaks in decent and it mostly seals well on the ice.
I do find the thumb angle too flat. The the fold-over Tee is more CCM then it is Lefevre. There can be a gap in the seal.

I wish they merged the 580 with the Mach internal glove material which I find very comfortable

Having used a number of 580s over the years including some from other brands I think a Lefebvre made one is still superior.

Believe with pro custom you can order a 90 deg with Mach internals. I plan to do that.

CCM’s gotta be punching air watching all of their pro guys use something other than the brand new glove breaks they put the majority of R&D into.

I agree, it's never a good look... BUT... anyone on this thread is hardcore? So 90% of the public will see the graphic, the logo, assume it's the latest and not sweat it too much

I also know post Lefevre that CCM is focused on innovation and making things that sells in stores. Look how well Warrior does with 0 NHL use and how well Bauer did with 1S/1X at retail before it had full pro adaption.

So is 591 a revolutionary product? To me, it is not. It's a unique design and I commend CCM for trying to innovate the glove... Overall, gloves are due for a revolution. Look at 2013 pad vs a 2023 pad. Has the glove changed in the last 10 years?

So I don't CCM views this as much of a failure as you might think? They probably knew it was 50/50 best case scenario that either Demko or Markstrom used it.

Apparently it'll be the same knee stack set up. Which is pretty much like Stabiliflex anyways.

Correct, CCM will tell you that Stabilislide is too stiff and their pro feedback is that the pad should some feel / give in that area.

  8. The old tip was carbon lubrication dust and epoxy. I used this before a few times. It does NOT save the stick, but it will prolong the life. Both items are readily available at home depot and should cost less than $10

Anyone know where I could get a cheater or what model would line up to my victory v4, I’ve been looking to get one for a while but I don’t want to drop 100 bucks to have the cage not fit.

Edit: Didn't realize I posted this in mods and I can’t delete the post

    Check with Goalie Parts?

    Poor guy.

You can see the lacing pattern on the back of the thigh rise, which is different from the pad he has.

or the laceless face on 6 vs construction face lacing on EF5

Yep this has been my decision to push through my custom order now rather than wait - the new calf feature on the HL2s seems to be moot anyway when ordering custom as you get an IIHF/NHL spec calf. I went for a stiffer knee block this time around too.

completely agree with @TrojanGoalie HL was a major turning point for Bauer.

There is a reason this pad is HL2 and not some other new name. Bauer had a major hit and it's a more evolutionary release. Not the major change between 2X and HL.

I keep seeing people ask about retail, I have a set of the retail thanks to a Bauer University coupon that are coming next week.  Will get to play in them a few times before the end of September and I am currently in UltraSonic pads.  Will be happy to report how I feel the sliding in with the thicker calf, and different calf shape as well once I play a few times.

    Did you like them?

Yeah, this seems to be a steal. I am biased and love my GSX (coming from G3s) and I'm shocked by the value it provides.

I saw the new GSX and it's the most eye catching part of the '23 line IMO

Do you or does anyone know when they're supposed to be released?

I would expect july-ish, that is usually the skate launch

That new "vintage" color looks almost better. I wouldn't do any DIY painting, I bet it would end up even worse. It is what it is.

I had that thought too, looks like it's a purposeful vintage cream color... didn't want to sound like I was minimizing that this sucks by mentioning it earlier

You're fully right and its changed my mind again. Im going full custom True.  I can let this thread go now. I was trying to weigh my options out loud here like many others do, so its nothing personal if the Konekts we not for me.

Glad you found some skates that you like and should be happy with them, enjoy. If you have any issues with, tons of people on the board have them and probably talk you through any easy home remedies.

Knew you were not going to end up with Konekts though! haha.
