  1. I used an old pair lace in knee blocks. Might be worth finding if you can’t find shoulder caps.
  2. Two sets to show off. Sorry for the messy garage. First is a set of leg pads (with a practice glove) that I picked up directly from Scott Wedgewood. These are my second or third try on Vaughns. I know this set is a bit older (he used them during his first stint with the Coyotes), but I really enjoy them. Second is my second set I have purchased from someone in the Chen family. Two games in and I can see why people like Bauer. Getting used to such a stiff pad after using those Vaughns the last two months has been interesting.
  3. I am in for the second tester group. Will probably try on my player skates first, as I block a lot of shots and want to see durability.
  4. For beer league, no one is going to care. I have shown several refs who also play goalie and they have added the tape to their pads. Non beer league? Not sure.
  5. No leather straps? Are you sure these are yours?
  6. I have not lost since putting the tape on. 5-0. Even won a game at a level higher than I should ever consider playing. Tape has held up perfectly. Have not got around to putting it on the calf wings using Rapidtac because I honestly don't think I need to, knee blocks alone have been plenty slick.
  7. So I have Chenner's old Kenesky PP1. It has held up incredibly well playing an average of two mid-level beer league games a week. I made some small mods to beef up the bicep and shoulder areas, but everything else has been great.
  8. You underestimate how bad I am at phone screen protectors. I still have the protector that came stock on my phone. The 3m film I bought is just as wide as my calf wings, so little margin for error. I have some rapid tac coming, so we will see how that goes. I honestly think putting it on the calf wings would be too slippery. That or it would expose my poor technique. I made a cross crease save, sliding across in the butterfly, and went too far. Couldn't recover fast enough to cover the backdoor shot. To be fair, it was probably poor rebound control that led to the goal (went off my back pad). Still need to train my brain that friction won't stop me like it used to. Lots of drop in time the next two weeks to get used to it.
  9. These should cost me less over time than the person I hire to tie my skates for me every game. Thanks mom! Kidding aside, I want to see how durable the latches are before buying. When I first started roller, I used a pair of inline skates that had the ratchet tightening system (think snow board bindings) and they broke pretty easily when hit by a roller puck (then it became duct tape every game until I got new skates). If these are durable, then I'm for giving them a go.
  10. I have 3 skates as well. No peeling. Sliding really well. Have not lost since putting on. I did try to do the calf wings. Couldn't get the material on without creases or bubbles. At my last job, we put large decals on gas pumps, using something called rapid tack. That allowed the decals to be movable until the rapid tack set, making it easy to get out bubbles or creases. May test that on some old gear before trying elsewhere.
  11. Tried the 3m product I shared a link for a while back on the knee wings. Slid incredibly well all game. Pretty sure I don't make it across the crease fast enough on a few saves without it last night. Getting more material to do calf wraps and to experiment with a more permanent solution. The material feels like a vinyl table cloth, so I am wondering if that can be formed/sewed if it was thick enough?
  12. Is this the right kind of tape? It seems to be the closest I can find in the US on Amazon. VViViD 3M Clear Paint Protection Vinyl Film 6 Inch Wide Choose Your Size Including Tools (6 Inch x 48 Inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXOPYQ4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_7VT192Y8CN6SZQ8PX9J9 I have used some bushings from Igus, who have this tape available. I wonder how it compares. https://www.igus.com/product/681?artNr=B160T-5-20
  13. New to me set of Passau Starke pads. Factory Mad modified glove, all else stock. Got a great deal on the set. Rotating with my Chenner bro returns until I decide which set to keep.
  14. I regularly skate out in the lowest level beer league. Last night we had 7 skaters for a playoff game. We were rotating 3 defenses and 4 forwards. We were up 1-0 until about a minute and a half left. Our 78 year old defenseman, who is actually pretty good at the low level, broke his leg in two places. This caused a 10 minute or so delay and a faceoff in our end. They tied a few seconds after the faceoff and ended up winning in the shootout. Watching our old man suffering in pain really took the wind out of our sails.
  15. Curious how one would go about fixing the cut pictured. Got run into last week and did not realize the pad took on some damage.
  16. Found some older pictures (instead of working). Really liked my Agatone set, which is now floating around the Austin area beer leagues as a starter set. I was not well equiped for ice when I transitioned from roller. I put an old license plate inside my blocker after getting a bruise on the top of my hand from a hard shot.
  17. Found this picture of my previous set from 2018 or 19. Not sure what I was doing here. Loved the colors, disliked the pads. Too tall and too much curve.
  18. The jerseys for my new team are worse.
  19. Long time lurker, first time poster. We had a photographer on one of my teams. He'd pull out the camera between shifts. If these pads look familiar it's because they were Chenner's. I have his old Kenesky chest protector as well.
  20. That was me in Chenner's old pads. I broke the leather wrist strap and have been using a Factory Mad glove while I figure where to get the Kenesky glove repaired.
