  1. bunny, why the asterisks? I can figure the name but what am I missing?
  2. The in studio segment on the TNT games is pretty good. Bisonette is funny even if he's goofy and #99 has an idea what he's talking about. Carter isnt bad as well.
  3. Probably not the answer for which you are looking ilyazhito. I had used a Vaughn T-1000 for a long time (it is an early production glove by Vaughn - a relic by today's standards) but maybe Vaughn has something you'd like. I've been using a Passau 60 degree with a floating double T attached with skate laces for about 5 years now; easy to catch a planet if needed. By far, the best glove I've ever had since I started in 1972. Try different ones on at the store if you can. "Best" is kinda like the most beautiful woman - depends on what you like.
  4. Well, here's one view of the situation: Dominik Hasek calls Ovechkin a 'chicken sh-t', wants NHL to suspend all Russians (yahoo.com)
  5. This is really hard. I think both views of what used to be called "hot dog" moves and are now called "really skillful" are appropriate. But there's no getting around it; lacrosse/michigan/the Hertl move b/w his legs up until recently would have drawn a heavy response from a D man or defending F. Whether the absence of such a response is a good thing or bad thing is beside the point. The present hockey environment encourages the lacrosse/michigan/cutie pie moves. So, like always, it is up to us to figure how to stop the shot/move. WillyGrips13, 100%. Collapse to the goal but no one is on a man.
  6. It is just how it is; smaller guys arent going to be in the Show. The game would have to morph into something else, and I dont know what it would be, before someone like Vachon or Palmateer would get a chance. Heck, Plante wouldnt get a chance. Evolution, I suppose.
  7. I had the Gretzky pulled on me last night. Center was behind the net faking left, faking right and passed the puck over the net to a Dman breaking in down the slot. He blasted it but the shot just hit me. I dont like it but got to give them credit when they go aerial and start playing 3 D hockey
  8. That really sucks; sounded like his return was going well. s

    Scary Collision

Unfortunate outcome but what else can you expect from a Men's League Board. What did they do? Put him on double secret probation? Clearly, some on the board think he's a problem player given this incident and his record. And they will be oh so shocked if someone goes "old school" on him when he does it again and most likely he will. Why shouldnt he? He's been doing it without any sanction or response. However, I am interested to know whether your team plays his team again before the season ends and whether he has more "accidents" with other goalies before the season is done. Important thing is you're recovering. Line it up for the next game and good luck!
  10. He got pulled but I think it was King trying to protect him. The team is flatter than a tire with no air. The team just sucks; at best, they are a beer league team aside from 2 or 3 guys. The other goalie, Lankenin, has a broken hand so MAF is playing every game. The two other guys in the minors arent very good. MAF, though, has been playing really well. His game hasnt dropped off a bit. If he gets out of here, and I hope for him it happens, they may as well bring up Commesso and see what he has. Toews is out with concussion - he's trying when healthy but he has tons of hard miles on him. Kane is so swarmed all he can do is pass to DeBrincat who is having a good season. Once you get past these 3 and MAF there isnt a whole lot on the ice and management is non existent. Attendance is way down and the season ticket holders are selling them at less than face. The Org-ni-zation needs a blow up and a restart.
  11. Didnt watch much. I had a skate Friday night, and saw the fastest skater and hardest shot before heading to rink. Kind of a yawn for the two events. Didnt help here that Wirtz had a disaster of a so-called town hall re the Blackhawks on Wednesday. So bad it overshadowed DeBrincat being the only Blackhawk in the Allstar Weekend and put the team back on the front pages for all the wrong reasons. Really hope for Fluery's sake, he gets out of here at the trade deadline. He's playing extremely well with zero in front of him.

Absolutely not. A poke check is a legit play. He was angled up and going to crash you no matter what goalie move you made. I know you got banged up but you showed great restraint not knocking him on his ass and to be honest, I hoped for a better response from your team. The dude has a history and is going to do it again even if he is barred from your league until someone makes him realize that taking such liberties will generate a response. Btw, love how the ref doesnt show up in the frame until the very end.

Poke check or no, dude was doing the crash the goalie move. BS too how he acted as if he cared and went through the motions of checking on you. Hope you're ok.
  14. Extremely entertaining....bizarre because I think he genuinely wanted to fight all of them. LOL
  15. Maybe we should ask Dan Cloutier when Tommy Salo retired. That was bizarre when he challenged the bench.
  16. A fricking nightmare/pain in the gluts that wont end, it seems
  17. Saw something on the news today...what the hell is going on in Ottawa?
  18. Best suggestion on that is a used sporting goods store. My gloves are the Passau 60 and blocker. I dont know that you want to wait for them to be made and drop almost a $1000 US for an experiment. It will be a big issue getting gloves and sticks. Even before the supply chain problems, I'd go to a Total Hockey store and there were maybe 2 senior level catching gloves and maybe one blocker. Sticks?...good luck getting one from a store and again before supply chain issues, at best they 4 or 5 in the store. Your choices are really limited.
  19. Thanks fellas. I agree the locker room is the most non-sexual circumstance ever and there's a consent element if the genders are mixed together with my chasing women days are long gone (being married 30 yrs has that effect). As for the covid, I'll just keep doing what I've been doing. Wear the mask until I get to C/A and put it back on when I remove the C/A after the skate.
  20. My two cents....stick with what you are. Switching dominant hands for puck handling purposes is a major change for an element of the game that although is an important part of your game but represents maybe 15 to 20 % of the job. If your blocker side is stronger/better than your glove side, work on your glove side rather than completely redo your entire game. But if you're young enough and really want to try it, give it a shot. Like Bunny says, though, sticks and gloves are going to be an issue in general and particularly at this time.
  21. Not sure this is in the right place so Bosses please move this as you see fit. 1) What if anything do you do about Covid in the locker room? I started up again in September of 2021 and obviously the world has changed. Last night a few guys announced - just locker room banter - that they have certain beliefs about vaccines etc. and arent vaxxed. Ok fine, I dont care about anyone's politics or stances on public health and am not interested in a political/public health debate. Do you wear a mask getting dressed, not wear a mask, leave the skate or what? I am vaxxed and boosted but I dont want to transmit anything to my 82 yr old mom for whom I care on the weekends and whose health has had all kinds of issues starting with cancer 12 years ago. 2) The skates from time to time have female players most of which are actually pretty good. The women get dressed with the men. I am reluctant to go full frontal in their presence just out of respect and not wanting to have my junk hanging out. When the females are there, I tend to go into the bathroom area and remove the underwear and put the jock and undergarments on in there. Reverse the process after the skate. My instinct, being an old fart, is that if a woman wants to be in there, she's going to see what she sees and its not my problem but I also dont want to be a perv type a-hole from a long since dead generation. What do you do or what would you suggest? Thanks
  22. Great goaler; belongs in the H of F. Like most Ranger goalies, sometimes his biggest problem was the team in front of him. Cant count the number of times, particularly in the playoffs, where he made a stop, began to the cover the puck, his teammates dug it out from him, immediately turned it over, and it ended up in the net.
  23. I didnt have a chance to comment this morning @MTH. You touched on a point I forgot....the zebra and his/her experience/training. You hockey parents have your hands full.
  24. This is a really hard issue. We want the kids, esp at the age of yours, to love the game for the rest of their lives. But what happens when they, as they move up in ages, come up against a group that knows how to deliver and take a hit? I'm not suggesting that 12 yr olds should know how to deliver and take a check and I like the concept of the restrictions. But there's always some coach somewhere who is preparing his team handle the check game, and I'd hate to see a kid say at age 16 being totally unable to adapt to checking. In some ways, a parent like you is in a tough spot as your child progresses through the age groups. Your prediction is likely correct but that will take a lot of time. At least, the rules in your area dont have the kids wear "stop" signs on the back of the sweater which has to be the most useless idea ever. Dont we have an obligation to teach young players not to hit from behind? I am kinda a glad my daughter was never interested in the sport enough to want to play. Instead, she chose horses which means I will work until I am dead.
  25. Glad he's ok. It's "cool" when it happens to us....not cool when it happens to a kid.
