  1. Sure is...."fabrique en canada". Spelling is based on my memory at work; if I got it wrong, apologies.
  2. I'm not too fussy about the stick. My biggest things are 1) the lighter the better, 2) short paddle, & 3) a decent curve. I dont really care who makes it. I was just very surprised to find a to wood stick. Cant beat the price - no pun intended - $45 US. It will probably break on the first heavy shot. :)
  3. After another two year lay off caused by a parent's health problems - still ongoing - and the Bubonic Plague, I got back on the ice in September 2021 but not as consistently as I would prefer. Anyway, she who shall be obeyed cautioned me that I needed to get out of the house for more than simply going to work. Our big day out involved shopping for a new stick. What a joke that turned out to be. The Total Hockey store that sells goalie equipment had 3 full right goal sticks, one of which was for floor hockey and the other two were for fellas who like a 27 inch paddle length. Called Gunzo's and they had an equally limited supple of new stuff. Went there anyway to get some merch for Xmas for the daughter and I asked the clerk whether they had anything in the storage area. Sure enough, the young man walks out with what is shown below. Who knows how old it is but I had no choice. For what it is worth it is a Price model but must be from his rookie year or something....a completely wood stick. It should probably be in a time capsule.
  4. That is awesome, MTH! Well done, good Sir, well done.
  5. Watch out, guys. The standup approach is coming back. (joke) I think it was said above, there are two other elements factoring into this. I think the players are really much more skilled than in the dark ages and a goal like that would have been considered bad form likely resulting in a fight. Even though I hate it personally, if a skater can pull it off, why not?
  6. We have 3 local sports channels here for the Hawks, Bulls, and the 2 baseball teams. The Hawks played the 'Lanch last night and it was on none of them. It wasnt on TNT, NHL Network, but was apparently on ESPN + whatever that is. Instead of making it more accessible, it seems like it is going back to the Dollar Bill Wirtz days of no home games on TV.
  7. I am no fitness coach/guru. In my experience, however, those last few pounds can only be shed by using a new cardio exercise(s) and a new lifting exercise. The thing seems to be finding an exercise that snaps your metabolism of its current steady state. If you do a lot of biking, for example, stairs might be a way to jump start things. Congrats on your efforts and your rewards. You'll be stopping more and you wont get tired. Good work, bunny!
  8. Only speaking about where I live; there are too many....on second thought, I like this board and the goalies here so I'll just skip it.
  9. @RichMan, I sooooo get it how it goes away. It is the strangest thing. I remember sometimes praying for a whistle not to be blown because the pain/discomfort with an associated physical issue would come roaring back. I genuinely believe no one else can understand this unless they themselves have done it....thanks heavens for a place like this and guys willing to put out what careens around in our heads. Did any of you play at a time when the "trainer"/"team dr" would play Dr. Feelgood and give you a shot before the game started? What self remedies did you use when you were injured and played anyway? Not to gross out the young goalies but I am curious what some of us dinosaurs may have done. Funny thing....I am 58, about to be 59, and I have a notice on my desk that I am a member of a class action lawsuit against the NCAA for how they handled concussion injuries. I dont care about the outcome but I just glanced at it after reading RichMan's note.
  10. just too much bug....sucks for the players, families, etc....it's a big deal to be in wjc
  11. Saw Priest twice during the 80s; Dave Holland was on the skins. Greatest show ever. Tipton's lead in to Victim of Changes was amazing. They were so loud. Heard everything during the shows but my ears rang for 2 days after each concert. Only regret is I didnt get to see them when Les Binks was the drummer. Believe or not, legend is that he came up with the guitar sound for Beyond the Realms of Death. I like all the bands mentioned here but Priest will always be my fav and Stained Class is the greatest album ever. Just my HO.
  12. great job, Bunny. I have to believe what you're doing will pay off not only in net but also off the ice with everything else. Keep it rolling
  13. Personally, I dont like it. But until someone who does it gets knocked onto his backside, there's no chance of deterring it. I dont think The Show will enact a rule against it. Why would they? Keeps the league in the headlines. Yahoo today linked the NHL Network where Torts expressed his displeasure with it. I havent had anyone do it on me yet but last night a really good player did the Gretzky pass over the night from behind it thing. Thank heavens the shooter missed after the pass.
  14. I play/skate only once a week real life circumstances permitting but my "program" is pretty basic but seems to work for me. I skate on Fridays so my week goes like this. Sunday, 3 sets of pushups, 30 reps for each set for a total of 90. After each set of pushups, immediately into 28 jump burpees. Next is 3 sets of rows, two upright and one bent over with 12 reps each set. After each set of rows, immediately into 8 reps of squats followed by 18 jump burpees. All lifts are with 2 40 lbs dumb bells. Tuesday is 3 sets of presses, 12 reps followed immediately with by 28 jump burpees. Next is 3 sets of legs with 8 reps and first set is squats and last 2 sets is one forward lunge and one backward lunge. Immediately after each set of the legs exercises is 18 jump burpees. Thursday is just the burpees as above. The work out is vigorous and has helped my endurance. On the non-work out days (Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays) I stretch and foam roll. At my age, my body needs more rest than when I was younger and I stay at the 40 lbs dumb bells because my joints cannot deal with heavy weights anymore. My diet is pretty good (no sugar, miminal bread, etc) but I mess up with the 9 pm to 10 pm demon. He tries to get me to eat some ice cream or something else destructive. I try hard to resist and just have a yogurt but sometimes I fail. My weight is about 165 lbs.; below that number, I lack energy and feel weak. After I stopped playing for "real" at 34 in the 94-95 season, my weight shot up from about 150 lbs to 205 lbs. I was a pretty fat pig; I am only 5'5". Like @Trepid wrote, your thread, @bunnyman666, is inspiring. After your medical issues, pretty amazing how you're reclaiming your life. Best wishes for your health and play.
  15. I dont know how bunny played with the ostomy bag. But he's an unusual goalie with super ability to endure. @keeper_13. For me, it depended where I was in terms of age and aspiration. From age 7 till college, it didnt matter. I didnt leave the ice under any circumstances including knock out (revived with smelling salts - different time and different headgear) or significant orthopedic injury such as a dislocated shoulder (snap it back in). I didnt want to lose my spot. After college and several surgeries, from 22 yrs old till age 35 in men's league, bumps, bruises, strains didnt matter but head injuries and joint disruption were enough to make me leave the game and take whatever time was needed to heal. I would play through strains, sprains, bruises, etc. Now, during my 3rd hockey life (age 50 to present), if I am hurt, I am done for the night. My "tough guy" days are long gone. If I felt what you felt with your hip, I'm finished for the night. About the only thing which wont cause me to leave during Hockey Life 3.0 is bruises...kinda like them. Dont ask why; I dont know. I get what you mean about not wanting to blow up the game for everyone else. Shows you are a responsible and probably a pretty good goalie. But there comes an age where it just doesnt make sense any more and can put your family at risk if you are unable to work. Not sure of your age but if you are in Mens League, your calculus should be on yourself and not whether the other teams thinks you're good. That can get very dangerous very fast. Hope you feel better.
  16. The game itself seems to me to be pretty good. The guys in the Show have amazing skills and the lack of the old clutch and grab of anything that moves lets them show their skills. The broadcasts, however, suck and there's no continuity of the schedule. The few times I've seen a game on TNT the highlight for me was 99 in the studio between periods. Otherwise, the schedule is all over the place. Here, Foley is in his last year and the Blackhawks have had guest play by play and color commentators who are awful. They've also had more than a handful of games on streaming platforms for which I refuse to fork out the money. Thank heavens I get the NHL Network on Comcast (about the only channel I really watch) although I can do without that Elliot Friedman character who seems to know oh so much and seems overly concerned with his newest hairstyle. NBC got tedious esp with the repeat of the teams shown and McGuire's adoration of the Pens and Crosby.
  17. Really a nice thing to say, Trepid. Working on things but had a bit of an altercation this past Friday where an over zealous skater, who enjoys not quite crashing but certainly screening really close to the blue paint, took offense at my very gentle whack on his shin and saw fit to pull me down while a shot from the point was on its way. The shot beat me but he and I had a little "discussion" after I got back on my skates. Not sure which is worse: getting beat or the groin pull I have now on my right leg. Wish I had the camera....would have liked the input from the board here about whether I was over the line or not strong enough in my response.
  18. You're playing....that's all that matter. You give me hope, Bunny!
  19. All the information cited here is helpful and accurate. Goaltending by Plante details the theory of the standup approach better than anything else. Funny, though, Jacques had an open mind because he spends a whole chapter detailing Tony Esposito's approach. Youtube must have a load of Plante film. Also check out youtube for Bernie Parent film. Skating agility and patience are the basis in that for standup you have to use all four edges and generally not make the first move. Biggest vulnerability to the standup is the back door and cross ice plays. So you have to be mindful with your depth.
  20. RichMan might be more right than he knows. The implosion continues; Kane and Toews were in the papers again essentially retracting their comments about Bowman, etal. I know they are on ice leadership but neither has the skills to handle this topic. The team goes and gets crushed by the 'Peg on Friday. Colliton get the ax yesterday. Banning the franchise from the playoffs might be moot; they're doing it themselves. The team's pulse rate seems to be about 6. MAF is trying so hard and he's got to be asking himself "I'm going to be in the HofF and I am on men's league team playing for an organization with a sex assault problem?".
  21. Esto, I am 58. Nothing wrong with slowing it down some, but do NOT quit. Take care of yourself and yes the dings take longer to get over but playing will keep you young. Do not stop unless that is what you want or your body cant do it anymore.
  22. Sometimes you just have to wonder what the hell the team is thinking. Trotting out Toews after Wednesday's game was not well thought out. His blood was up after another loss and he's struggling with his own health issues. I understand he's the Captain and all but it was almost like feeding raw meat to the press. He's not an idiot but he's also not a professional talker who's going to navigate landmine questioning right after a game on a criminal matter like the Beach situation. Kane, who didnt play that night because of Covid protocol, came across better than Toews who got beat up some by the columnists the next day. Kane's a great player but he's not going to be splitting the atom any time soon. So it was another misstep by the team in a _hit storm situation. The season is pretty much over already; it's going to take a long time for the Hawks to get their management house in order and their on ice product is not good. I hope the pencil neck criminal gets what's coming to him. The level of destruction these offenders leave behind is devastating. It was always strange around here about Beach. He was drafted 11th overall, came to camp, and then you just never heard anything about him. For a guy drafted that high, you'd expect to hear something like an injury happened to him. What a tragedy.
  23. Fall out? Nuclear winter here. The team is just getting crushed in the newspapers here on the front page and the sports pages. Management is getting justifiably murdered and the luster of Kane and to a greater extent Toews is diminished after their interviews about the situation a few nights ago. Q was worshipped here almost more than Mike Ditka. Not any more. Columnists are tearing him a new one daily. I dont know why but our sport seems to have had this issue in the background even before Theo Fluery went public. Tragic and disgusting.
