I wonder if the bigger issue isn't getting them made exactly the way they need to be to garner Kay Whitmore's approval. I'm sure an NHL player could custom order a set and get them pretty close, but they might not max out every single fraction of an inch the way a truly bespoke set from one of the other manufacturers would.

    Vaughn V9

Really? This glove looks fantastic to me! One other thing I absolutely love about Vaughn is that they're carrying Quickslide down to the second price point. As I mentioned in the G5 thread, there are certain people who come into the store and are totally focused on the sliding material used on pads. I've sold a couple sets of SLR2 Pros to people like that who didn't want to pay the extra to move up to a true pro level pad.

This does jibe with my experience. My GT2s are more consistent from the start of the game to the end of the game than my EF4s with SpeedSkin. My biggest point was that retail customers are buying into the hype surrounding these materials and don't always factor in other parts of the design. Similarly, you'll see a 250 lb beer leaguer buy low end pads and then be stunned that the less durable materials break down super quickly. People don't always see the entire picture and aren't always willing to be educated. That seems to be the case with the glove, but the blocker is clearly thicker. The pads are a little harder to determine, as they actually look much thinner at the top to me. If there's one thing I'm not worried about it's Warrior gear being overly heavy. The GT2 glove and blocker are by far the lightest I've ever used, so even if they regress to the mean a little bit with the G5 and all other companies get lighter this generation (unlikely) Warrior will probably be lighter or at worst equal to the competition.

The purple set on the previous page also look as though there is a little more room around the boot. This seems like it might be the next big trend, as Axis also talks about a stiffer upper section with a softer, more flexible boot.

Well it would depend on the construction of the calf wrap, now wouldn't it? As an example, if the foam behind the calf strap is rigid it would make the traditional method more difficult.

Can the wrap still be worn around the calf wrap for the traditional looser fit if that's preferred?
  7. Not much meat here, but more info than anyone else has offered :https://ingoalmag.com/news/ccm-axis-initial-on-ice-impressions/ I like the feedback on the glove. Hopefully it feels a little more "Vaughn-ish".
  8. All the California and New York teams will be pissed they didn't make the change first. Could go with the Seattle Medusa and use Bernie Sanders as the mascot...
  9. I know someone would have found a way to whine that it wasn't PC, but I really liked the Seattle Totems name. The colors are God-awful. Teams love to tell you all about the "meaning" their colors have, so I suppose it's pink for salmon and teal for the ocean. My issue is that a green (for the trees/emerald city), navy (for the ocean, it's the Pacific Ocean, not the damn Caribbean) and dark grey (for the mountains) theme would have made more sense AND been more visually appealing.

I never really thought it all the way through, but when I do there are only 3 teams you couldn't duplicate with just a single color of padwrap from those templates. Colorado, Winnipeg and Vegas (and you could get close enough to Vegas to survive if you had to). Pretty cool! I would think it would be difficult to find an objective test to quantify how much better one material is than another, especially given the constantly changing ice conditions goalies face. Still, I do feel like offering SOME option beyond weave would be beneficial as Warrior is currently the only major company not offering a dedicated material for the sliding surface. When discussing G4's and now G5's with customers I can point to AirSlide (and I'm looking forward to experiencing how that works) but the GT2's definitely lost sales to Gnetik IV and and Eflex 4 based on perception about the materials used on the inner surface. Weave is great at custom, but so many people buy off the rack so that option is lost to them. Having said all of that, I will say that subjectively speaking, with no data to back it up whatsoever, my GT2 set with weave slides better than my EF4 set with SpeedSkin, especially when the ice gets choppy so I do applaud Warrior not just rolling out any old option as a sliding surface without comprehensive review. I feel like CCM may have tested SpeedSkin primarily on good ice (it's stellar there!) and overlooked goalies who don't get fresh ice every 20 minutes.

So my team colors are green and black with a splash of orange. Any opinions on which set you guys prefer?

I don't think it's speaking out of school to say that the color options are exactly the same as last year. Personally I'm liking the graphic when I stick to big blocks of color. When I try to add accent areas my designs tend to fall apart. This has been typical of Warrior gear designs I've tried in the past, which is why I ended up going with the Classic design for my GT2 set. This time I'm committed to making it work with the other design and I'm pretty close to having something I'm happy with, but it took some tinkering for sure. The cool thing about it is that I found several viable options for different looking pads, so you won't be stuck with a set that looks exactly the same as what comes stock.

I am also curious. I genuinely feel like my GT2s have the best strapping setup of any pad I've ever worn. The go on quickly and rotate perfectly once on. There is minimal pressure on any of my joints but they still snap back to center quickly. I'm not saying it's a perfect strapping system, but it's damn good and I hope they DON'T tweak it just to tweak it.

If you look closely it's not actually a gradient pattern, just a shadow.
  16. The great thing about TRUEs is that they can be molded repeatedly. They do require a longer time in the oven and on your feet but it's absolutely worth spending the time on.
  17. Sorry, I didn't take shots with the True holders on and I had my LS5G blades profiled before ever putting them on. I will say that there was a HUGE difference in feel but I hadn't skated on 4mm runners in well over a year before buying my TRUE's so that may have been it as well.
  18. Looks like the Fleury and Holtby patterns are being added back and the original Price is gone. It's good they're adding more custom options since they are cutting back on retail offerings:
  19. If only! Like cwarnar siad, it's not going to happen but you'd think a company like CCM could come up with something to replace Speedskin. I'm sure they don't want to given all the R/D dollars they spent but the fact that Axis IS launching with Speedskin instead of a replacement is very disappointing.
  20. I guess I'm the contrarian here. I worry about durability a little bit, but I don't hate the way it looks.
  21. Read the first post of the thread. At least the blocker is not 2S.

Maybe that explains why it was pulled. They didn't want to traumatize anyone with the memory of his untimely passing.

Trust me, I really wish you had the right of it! This looks like an answer to the EF4 stick from CCM. If you liked the CR1 you'll like the V1 better. It's a great twig!
