  1. We also had a piper - which I was reminded of when we watched our wedding video on Monday, for our 13th anniversary!
  2. That’s stoatin’ man! Congrats mate! Dae ye ken who looks daft I’m a kilt? naebody! They’re magic!
  3. We do indeed! Used to watch it more back in the mid 90s- early 2000s, and we had a 20th anniversary special on VHS when I was growing up that I memorized. Fun fact: In my high school grad class/year book (class of '96) I was voted "Most Likely to Host Saturday Night Live". Wouldn't be the first funny Canadian on the show, that's for sure!
  4. That's a ways away from me; I'm in Gloucester. When was the last time you were in Ottawa?
  5. Yeah - no preview image or anything, just this:
  6. So this thread makes me think I should talk MORE to myself, and LESS to my team mates... but then I know for a fact that my team mates say much nicer things to me than I say to myself, so maybe status quo should be maintained in my case... lol! There was a thread - or part, thereof - about having a mantra, and I took that one to heart. I'll throw in the odd "next shot, next save" and "no big deal" which I apply equally to highlight reel saves AND garbage goals. But the one that works for me, that I now say all the time after good/bad/routine plays is "Are you busy? Are you busy?" The reason for that is a bit of an inside joke. When they were younger, I would sternly (though disingenuously) say to my kids "Are you busy?", to which they would typically say "no". I'd then follow with a big smile and say "can I have a hug?" Now, and for some years, all I have to say is "Are you busy?" and I get a hug from one of my children. So for me, saying that aloud during the game reminds me of them, of how they inspired me to chase this crazy dream of playing goal at my advanced age, and also reminds me of what really matters. Oh, and I only say it loud enough for me to hear, as players are skating away... not looking for bear hugs from players out there, y'know. Believe it or not, having been off for >500 days due to COVID, when I finally returned to the ice, I had forgotten what my mantra was. I was a wreck! It finally came back to me after a few skates, and I'm in a good place with it now. Well, emotionally at least; statistically, it's still hit-or-miss - LOL!
  7. Classic beer, classic brewery! And a beaut of a 1 litre stein ( i have the same one - but I'm missing appropriate German beers to fill it with just now
  8. Not sure what the video is about, but I guess we can't see it in Canada, eh?
  9. I think I know the one you mean - in fact, I started that thread: Sound bad about your thumb, @seagoal... I was going to maybe post about my own thumb injury, though it's nowhere near as bad. I had my glove off coaching my son's team this weekend, to pick up pucks ahead of the scrimmage. My thumb got smashed between two pucks as a kid rocketed a pass over to me to "be helpful." Luckily it was just the nail - not the joint.
  10. “Son millieme point, avec l’aide d’un gars de chez nous!” Merci, @RichMan! You are my today hero!
  11. I’m currently sitting at 999 rep points. Who wants to be the lucky goalie who pushes Lucky Pucker to 1K…?
  12. You are an absolute treasure, @Wonder35! I feel like if we met up in person, we could talk hockey history for hours on end. Just amazing. Cheers, my good man!
  13. Meh - I think the bucket is part of “gear”… if anything, I was biased and immediately drawn to pads/gloves. signed, Brian’s Fanboy
  14. The Louch clear practice mask from the late 50s. Like other posts, it was a bit of a twist on an accepted concept (i.e. protect the face and head) - but weird, and ultimately was not kept. But damn if they didn’t have impressive PR for it; only some of the all time greatest goalies EVER
  15. Very slick! But if you’re willing to help the aged here: where is the green on his gear…(?) Or was that in reference to the mask? (bonus points for anyone who caught the Pulp reference…)
  16. Lookit, K? If I’m volunteering my time to be on the ice with other people’s kids, and those other kids trip over my stick, or can’t find a puck for the shooting and stickhandling drills, or can’t get the door open for a shift change in the scrimmage, is that my fault….?
  17. So my daughter - whose father is a mush ball - and still manages to be a great kid despite (because of?) it, had try outs for the competitive girls team. She made it. Mush Ball Dad is openly very fucking proud of his girl.
  18. As good a place as any to post this… my son - whose father is a hard ass - and still manages to be a great kid despite (because of?) it, had sort outs for his Atom house league this week. Because his old man has been running practices and will be head coach of one of the teams, he (the old man, aka Hard Ass) asked for the rankings afterwards. My kid was ranked as the strongest of 22 players, scoring 31 of a possible 36 points. Hard Ass Dad is secretly very fucking proud of his boy.
  19. Thanks, bruh. I knew about “look good/feel good/play good” thing… but “talk good (smack about your D)” is a recent revelation for me. Yeah, it wouldn’t have felt deserved anyway; I’ve had more and better saves in other games. But man do I want to get one…
  20. Great “blast from the past” beer that my buddy gave me. Still holds up in my books. As I’m writing this, that same buddy texted me to say “hey - I’m at Dominion City, if you want anything. Oh - look at this” might have him get me this “Second Wind” one as well
  21. Ha - yeah, we actually had 9-10 guys last night, and while I love my D, the goals were both on them (first goal one missed his mark at the side, second was a “third whack” kinda thing.) But it wasn’t really in a way that I minded too much (though I did think I was on my way to my first ever shut out, more than half way through without a goal. Soon… I hope!) I’m the kid on my team, with everyone else in their 50s, so nobody likes the late start. We’re only supposed to have 1 or 2 a season, but they’ve had to absorb teams from other leagues that played at rinks that closed during the pandemic. Schedules are all over the place already… but I waited >30 years to get to do this, so a few hours later from time to time is manageable
  22. Solid, my Scottish brother! I think I finished my last season around 3.50 for GAA… 2.04 would be amaze-ballz for me! They don’t track shots for us; is it semi-reliable in terms of save percentage for your league? Had my first pre-season game last night/this morning (11:15 start), got the W in a 3-2 final. Felt good, not at fault for the two goals against. huh! Come to think of it, I now have a better GAA than you do! Lol!
  23. Hope your buddy is going to be alright!
  24. Probably left them on top of the VCR, when you went to program it to tape Matlock
  25. These are all “fan sizes” I imagine…? Would be sick to get a goalie cut, and wear that with your older set!!
