Since you’re all hopeless at providing good goalie advice, maybe you can help with this… I have CCM Pro Tacks from 2005 in almost new condition (see pic). They’re great - but heavy. I was at PIAS getting skates for my son and saw a pair of Bauer Supreme S36 (2020 mid-range model) for a $150 (minus whatever I’d get on the trade). I didn’t get to try them on, but I’m wondering if going from 16 year old pro to present day mid-range would be a net improvement. I’m only wearing these to coach my son’s house league team, and to dick around once in a while outdoors, so I can’t justify getting Pro level again. Any thoughts? Stick with what I have? Go for the newer ones and feel the time warp?

Sort of…(?) if I recall correctly from what I’ve read, Johnny Bower is seen as the (grand)father of the butterfly, himself saying that he admired the low crouch of Sawchuk, and tried to emulate it as part of his style. Esposito was certainly an important part of what became known as butterfly- but for me it’s all the gear tinkering (legal and not-so-legal - but always creative) that makes him so interesting!

Yeah, credit to @seagoal for thinking of it! What a life… hockey, Reuben and IPA, home with a few Guinness and a seat outside… and all the while his gear is on display in that immaculate set up he calls “oh, it’s nothing… just a place where I hang up gear after ice times”. Always look forward to seeing what beers you’ve had - especially Tree House offerings!

Well isn’t that just adorable. I feel like yours is the first of a two-parter, where yours is subtitled “The Ideal”, and mine is subtitled “The Reality” Of course this was taken on a weekend where I had played, my wife and two kids had played, and I had coached my son’s practice. But hey - nothing left to rot in a bag at least, and there’s a turbo fan just out of the frame!

Pretty slick - and quite the deal! Coming from Montreal (the West Island) I know there are a lot of rich kids whose parents buy them anything/everything they want - which translates to some super sweet resale deals! That last bit about the Gnetik IVs is heartbreaking, because your set is bad ass! It’s what my set dreams about at night! LOL! But then if it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t work. Always enjoy seeing your gear, and hearing about Montreal!

Maybe if you were at work more, your community awareness and contributions would improve. Just saying…

Speaking of elusiveness… This was from mid-July at my in-laws, but Boreale makes some incredible NEIPAs. However, it seems I could never get this one - Brume du Nord (translates to “Northern Fog”). Kind hearted and loving man that he is, my father in law got some for me coming, and sent me home with two more. This one is a 5-star. So god damned good, I cried a little drinking it.

That cascade is elusive as fuck; it’s like trying to snap a picture of a vampire! But having seen the majesty many a time, I can imagine it!

Yeah, I can see a similarity of sorts. I wouldn’t call them ugly - especially when compared to some of Bauer’s offerings over the last 5 years. Regardless, Long Live The King!

Joking aside, if you find a pic of the ones you’re thinking of, I’d be curious to see them.

You’ve got me on the pin stripes - but anything after Hank is sorta sloppy seconds/ cheap imitation. And pinstripes always make me think of the line from Catch me if you Can (which probably makes it a good choice for goalies)

Agree on the Red (Wing) pants! If I was richer (and taller) I’d have bought some of Jared Correau’s Wings stuff that was for sale in the Pro Shop at a small arena he trained at near me (bonus for you, @seagoalhe is a Vaughn man!) I’d have Especially loved to have the mask… or Tim Cheveldae’s mask! And… now we’re off track.

That’s all good stuff - you are certainly a good community member! I think it was that same chat, where you said something about “no leather straps, so they think I’m great”… I also have zero leather straps, but - at best - I get the niceties that roughly translate to either “better than the shooter tutor” or “at least I didn’t have to put on the pads”. This is certainly in part because I’m not that good, but let’s be honest: nobody notices our gear except for other (ex)goalies - and sometimes the refs! I had my new pads for two games without a sideways glance from my teammates; waiting for the zamboni to finish, the ref says “new pads! Nice!”

Fuck yeah! Points off for even asking! (I say that after catching up myself, after having also been away for a wee while… because, life. Am I right, East Coast Broseph…?)

BTW - was it this thread where you posted losses of 8 and 11 goals against…? Thank you for doing that; I’ve had a few blowouts, but thought it was because I’m newish, and I sorta suck. Those probably still hold true in my case, but it made me feel better to know that you and a few others here that I hold in high esteem have also surrendered more than 5.

I think there was a pet thread, but fuck it; I’ll just put this here. We had our boy go under the knife recently (to prevent his boys making more boys…) so he’s been rocking the cone for a while. Of the four of us at the house, I’m his 4th biggest fan, but had him out and thought this was equal parts sad and hilarious. IMG_3017.MOV
